Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

Just as the British Invasion had an influence on American music, the music that came out of two generations of musicians in the states had the same effect overseas. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, The Beach Boys, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Doors, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, Judy Collins, Joan Baez and more!

4:00 p.m. The Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Chrissie Hynde

The heart and soul of The Pretenders takes her second spin as our featured singer-songwriter today.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Mamas & The Papas

One of the most influential group to emerge from the Laurel Canyon scene takes center stage tonight for a spell as they deliver their beautiful harmonies. Their recording career may have been short, but their influence has been long.

Get rid of those midweek blues here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio as we spin the best music on the planet free of charge 24/7. And best of all, there’s absolutely no commercial advertising!

Monday is Back and We’ve Got Some Reggae and Ska, Tedeschi Trucks In the Spotlight, and ‘Live’ Jefferson Airplane, June 5, 2023

Good morning to the working class! Monday has reared its ugly head, but we’ve got some great music up ahead to get you through the day. Read on for the details!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Best of Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska: Various Artists

It’s not an EP, but it is a few hours of great world music from Prince Buster, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Judy Mowatt, Jimmy Cliff, Basil Gabbidon, The Rhythm Aces, Derrick Morgan, Laurel Aitken, Count Lasher, The Jiving Juniors, Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley, Desmond Decker, The I-Threes, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and more!

4:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tedeschi Trucks Band

The biggest, baddest blues-rock band with the biggest-baddest blues guitar player led by the great Susan Tedeschi. What else could you possibly ask for? They are coming through my town in the fall and tickets are already gone.

8:00 p.m. Jefferson Airplane Live at The Matrix Club, San Francisco, CA, February 1, 1968

Another great band closes out our programming tonight as we go into the wayback machine for this live performance, vintage 1968.

Yes, it’s another week of work and, for some of us, serving the entitled masses in the wonderful land of retail. But for me, that doesn’t start until tomorrow. We’re on 24/7 with no commercial advertising and at no cost to you, folks. Get on it.

We’ve Made It to Saturday and We’ve Got Our AOW, the ‘M is For Motown’ EP, and a New Singer-Songwriter, June 3, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We have officially made it to the weekend and The Music Mermaid will deliver today with our Motown EP as the main feature!

Here’s today’s musical adventure:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash FINAL AIRING!

Today we say farewell to a groundbreaking album. It may have generated only two hits, but every song is recognizable and the great supergroup behind it comes to mind instantly. This was their only album before adding Neil Young to the lineup.

11:00 a.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

It was indeed the music that moved the world. It was also the music that made America dance line never before. You’ll hear Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson Five, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Rare Earth, Mary Wells, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes and more!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Chrissie Hynde NEW!

Tonight we introduce Chrissie Hynde as our featured singer-songwriter. Not only was she the primary songwriter for the great rock band, The Pretenders, but she was also a founding member, their guitarist (a monster on that thing) and their primary vocalist. For those who may not be well acquainted with Chrissie Hynde, we put this here.

Before, in between and after our programming, The Music Mermaid delivers our big, wide Open Stream for you. We promise you won’t hear the same stuff over and over and over. Best of all, we accept no commercial advertising and do not employ those rah-rah chatty, obnoxious DJ’s who love to hear themselves talk. It’s all about the music.

Thursday Brings Our New ‘What’s In a Name’ multi-artist EP, Crosby, Stills & Nash With Our AOW, and Emmylou Harris & Spyboy in Concert, June 1, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’re moving toward the weekend and today we’ve got our newest EP called ‘What’s In a Name’ to kick things off. But there’s more! Read on!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

There are more songs than I ever thought with names mentioned in them. I guess you don’t realize it until you start to compile a playlist! Many are people concocted from a great imagination, but some are real as well. It was fun putting this one together. You’ll hear from Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White, Bob Dylan and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash

We’re winding down on this one. The final airing will be sometime on Saturday. On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new album for you. In the meantime, don’t miss this one!

7:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris & Spyboy Live at Kongresshaus, Zurich, Switzerland, January 20, 1997

Emmylou Harris never, ever disappoints. She has been a stalwart of the country music industry for decades and has refused to be tied down to any one style. With her band Spyboy, she gets back to basics with a stripped-down approach to her music. This was a great period in her career.

We’re edging our way closer to the weekend, kids. No reason why you can’t enjoy yourselves on the journey. Great music will help you get there in style. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. We also never accept commercial advertising.

We’re at Midweek With ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, Guy Clark, and The Traveling Wilburys In the Spotlight, Wednesday, May 31, 2023

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Guy Clark

The late, great Guy Clark takes his second spin as our featured singer-songwriter for the week. I have a hard time picking a favorite from this guy but Texas1947 is pretty spectacular.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Traveling Wilburys

They were the greatest supergroup ever. There may never be another like them. They were just five guys who became friends, hung out, and played music together. That’s how the legend of the Wilburys began. Tonight we put them In the Spotlight where they belong.

We are on 24/7. Before, in between and after our programs, The Music Mermaid treats you to our wide Open Stream of 27,000 songs. We’re totally free of charge and we do not run any commercial advertising. Ever. Give us a whirl.

Tuesday Bluesday is always a popular day here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we invite you to join blues lovers from around the globe. We’re on 24/7 at no charge and with no commercial advertising to interrupt the flow. We hope to see you soon!

Memorial Day Brings Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP Plus Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Recorded Live for PBS Sound Stage, May 29, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! The final day of the long weekend gives us a great extended playlist plus an amazing performance by our other House Band tonight.

Here’s your Memorial Day lineup:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Again, we reiterate that water comprises 71% of the planet we live on. And it is a popular topic for the musical world. You’ll hear Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Recorded Live at WTTW Television Studios for PBS Sound Stage, Chicago, IL, 2003

This is an amazing live performance by The Heartbreakers who bring their A-Game to the show, covering some great blues classics in tribute to the foundations of rock n’ roll, as well as giving us their original work. Not to be missed.

Enjoy the last day of this long weekend and add some great music to the mix. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge. No strings. No lie. See for yourself.

On This Keep-It-Simple Sunday It’s Crosby, Stills & Nash With the AOW, and Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ EP, May 28, 2023

Sundays are simple: A couple of programs and a lot of wide Open Stream. Today is no exception in spite of the long weekend.

Here’s your musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash NEW!

One of the great musical supergroups released this album in May of 1969, and it elevated them to instant stardom. This would be the only album released before they added Neil Young to the group. It spawned two Top 40 hits in Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (for Judy Collins), but every song on this album became a CSN classic. It also shifted the music world from strictly blues-based music played on loud guitars and introduced the folk-rock sound. They opened the door for others playing the same genre.

3:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

The second volume focuses on the mid-to-late sixties with The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, B. B. King, Led Zeppelin, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimmy Cliff, Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix Experience and more!

What better way to celebrate the first official weekend of summer than with great music. We’ve got it here for you today uninterrupted by commercial advertising and chatty DJ’s. And best of all, no credit card or subscription is required.

The Big Summer Weekend is Here With Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles Top 100, and Guy Clark Later, Saturday, May 27, 2023

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, musicologists! We have excellent music lined up for you today as we get into the first official weekend of the summer season!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Buffalo Springfield by Buffalo Springfield FINAL AIRING!

Today we bid a fond farewell to Buffalo Springfield’s debut album as our Album of the Week. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection for you.

11:00 a.m. The Beatles: Top 100 Countdown

We aired this last year at this time and we repeat the process today as we pay homage to one of our House Bands, the band that changed everything from haircuts, to clothing styles and, most importantly, to music itself in just seven years together. There was never a band like them before, and we are still waiting for their equal. From our perspective, that day will never come.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Guy Clark NEW!

A Mermaid Lounge favorite for sure. On a freezing winter night in Harvard Square with my friends, we were looking for a break from the cold. We walked in to Passim’s Coffee House to warm up, sat down, and were treated to a very unexpected event. A singer-songwriter named Guy Clark was playing there live that night. We stuck around. It was an amazing revelation. We were certainly happy we did. The next day, I went out and bought everything I could find. Tonight, we introduce him as our featured singer-songwriter.

It’s a looong weekend, so kick your shoes off. We’ve got great music in store for you right through Monday. If you haven’t yet tuned us in, this would definitely be a good weekend to do it. We’re totally free 24/7, and we’re also totally free of commercial advertising. It’s just wall-to-wall music.
