Saturday Brings the ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, Volume Three of The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Adventure, and Dan Fogelberg as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter as the Holidays Approach, December 17, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists across the globe! Hope you’re all doing well as we tee it up in The Mermaid Lounge this morning. We’ve got a pretty full slate peppering our great wide Open Stream (a little Tom Petty imagery there).

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re talking real country here. And we’re also talking about the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen from the cross-fertilization center of the world: Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA 1997, Volume Three NEW!

The third and final installment as we roll out the brand new Heartbreakers’ compendium of their legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band. They threw away the script and kicked ass, and every one of them felt it was the most creative opportunity the band had, and the highlight of their time together. For the first time ever, there are more cover songs on a Heartbreakers album than original compositions. That was by design as they chose to pay homage to those artists who inspired them. They are, in our humble opinion, the best cover band on the planet.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg NEW!

It’s time to flip the switch to a new featured singer-songwriter, and Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underappreciated. Except here in The Mermaid Lounge, where we made him one of the very first artists to have a ‘Spotlight.’ Today he starts a week in the spotlight as our featured singer-songwriter.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat FINAL AIRING!

Tonight we bit a fond farewell to one of our favorite albums and bands as we close out this week’s featured album. We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new selection.

Saturday is always a bit of a busy day here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we never have more programming than open stream in a 24-hour cycle. We also never run commercial advertising or emply overly-talkative DJ’s. We just play music. Free of charge 24/7. No lie. No surprises. No credit card. No personal information. Ever.

Today We’re ‘Under The Influence’ of a Great EP, We Have Our Final Airing of “Route 66,” and LIVE DEAD! Later, Saturday, April 16, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s our usual Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge, albeit with a bit more Open Stream this week. We’ll all be just a little ‘Under The Influence’ of a great EP here soon.

Go ask Alice…when she’s ten feet tall.

Here’s today’s mind-altering line-up:

11:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Yeah. We’ve all been here, no matter how much we choose to deny it. Some of us still are, illegal as well as legal. You’ll hear Arlo Guthrie, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Glenn Frey, Donovan, John Lee Hooker, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, The Traveling Wilburys, The Temptations, Small Faces, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Neil Young, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Steve Winwood, Led Zeppelin, Harry Chapin, The Band, The Fraternity of Man, and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Route 66 by Asleep at The Wheel FINAL AIRING!

We bid this fine selection a fond farewell after this airing, but we’ll have a brand new selection for you tomorrow!

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, October 12, 1968 NEW!

Another new soundboard here. We have previously aired the 1966 show at the Avalon, but this gem is from 1968. Same venue; new show. Enjoy

So, what are you all waiting for? This is a perfect day to get acquainted with us. And it won’t cost you a thing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say. Who knows. This could be the biggest find of your day!

Well, are you?

Here’s Friday’s musical landscape:

You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep At The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, The Desert Rose Band, John Prine and more!

7:00 p.m. Badass Guitarists, Volume Two: Various Artists

Look, it’s tax day. Everyone needs a cheering up on this day when you pay more than the corporations do. This is the perfect landing spot for that. Today we welcome the inhabitants of Macau to our musical family. That’s right on the southern coast of China. What are you waiting for?

Today We’ve Got Some Badass Guitarists, Our AOW, and We Hear From That Other House Band Later, Thursday, April 14, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got a great line-up going for you today including some badass guitarists, Asleep At The Wheel’s Route 66, and that other house band later.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Badass Guitarists, Volume One: Various Artists

They’re baaaaack, those badass guitarists. You’ll hear the handiwork of Dickie Betts, Duane Allman, George Harrison, Mike Campbell, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Winwood, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Pete Townsend, Lowell George, Stephen Stills, Walter Becker and more! Volume 2 coming up tomorrow!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Route 66 by Asleep At The Wheel

This is the next-to-last airing of this week’s selection, a great one from a great Texas swing band. Get in on it while you can! On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new selection!

7:00 p.m. The Beatles Live at The BBC, Volume One: Pop Go The Beatles!

In total, The Beatles performed for 52 BBC radio programs, including Pop Go The Beatles! which began in June of 1963. We’ve got them here for you today. Keep in mind that the BBC studios were not as advanced as those at Abbey Road, so some alterations were necessary.

Great day for some great music! It was beautiful here yesterday, but doesn’t look so promising here today. Nothing that some great music won’t help. Join your friends from Chile, Germany, the UK, Korea, Australia, Greece, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, and points beyond!

Spend Tuesday Bluesday in The Mermaid Lounge With Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan, on April 12, 2022

And that’s not all! We’ve also got our second airing of our Album of The Week, Route 66, by Asleep at The Wheel. Read on for the details!

The day belongs to Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan!

Here’s today’s Tuesday Bluesday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Johnny Winter Live at The Bottom Line, New York, September 5, 1978

Johnny Winter is one of the finest electric bluesmen on the planet. He’s also just a great blues singer. You know a guy is great when the greats want to work with him. Muddy Waters earned Grammys for his work with Winter. This guy’s the real deal.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Route 66 by Asleep At the Wheel

We’ve got one break in the blues programming today for a little bit of Texas swing, Bob Wills style, with Asleep At the Wheel.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Stevie Ray Vaughan

Speaking of blues greats, we’ve got another one right here. We cover his music with both Double Trouble and as a solo artist.

Hey, it’s Tuesday Bluesday. It’s a great day to tune us in. Although, frankly, every day is a great day to tune us in. Before, in between and after, we give you all that great wide Open Stream. And the Music Mermaid will be taking care of you.

We Keep It Simple Today With Asleep at The Wheel’s Album of The Week and Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, Sunday, April 10, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we do something we’ve been wanting to do for a while, which is to introduce you to one of the finest Texas swing bands ever to walk the earth, Asleep at The Wheel. (That is, if you haven’t already heard them. I’m sure some of you have.)

Asleep at The Wheel.

Here’s your Sunday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Route 66 by Asleep at The Wheel NEW!

I can vividly remember seeing this amazing band live at The Paradise in Boston back in the day. Man, there were people dancing on the tables they were so good. We chose this album because we felt it was a great way to introduce people to them. But they have made many albums and many live appearances over their half a century in music and, while we do have some of their stuff floating around our stream, I have a vast collection about to make it’s mark on our airwaves. Stay tuned. This is just the beginning.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Once again, we make our monthly pilgrimage to soul music mecca where you’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and many more! That’s five uninterrupted hours of soul and R & B!

This is a total day of rest for most sane people. Those of you who “get it” are staying out of the retail fray today and taking a mental health break. This is the place to be. We’re on 24/7 uninterrupted at no charge to the listening public. What other musical outlet says that? None.
