We Close Out The Week With The #BecomeUngovernable House EP and Some True Confessions, Friday, October 29, 2021

Good Morning, Pettyologists! The month is coming to a close quickly and we’ve got just a couple of more things to squeeze in, one of them coming this evening. Read on!

We’ve got Bob Dylan with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on The True Confessions Tour later

Here’s your Friday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

This is one of our favorites here. It started small and became an EP a little over a month ago. We’ve got some great music lined up over the afternoon hours coming from this excellent multi-artist long player.

7:00 p.m. Bob Dylan with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Cal Expo Amphitheatre, Sacramento, CA, June 12, 1986

We’ve got a tour where Petty and his mates were not necessarily the headliners, but that didn’t seem to matter to either them or the audience. This is where the seeds were planted for a great musical match and where Mike Campbell said that the band truly learned how to improvise on stage. He credited Dylan with that lesson. This is one of those “don’t miss” moments.

Come on, folks. What the hell are you waiting for? Your friends from around the planet are out there right now listening to us and you need to find a way to join them. Hey, this isn’t rocket science. It’s Internet radio.

The complete Wilbury’s treatment with outtakes, alternative versions, demos, rough cuts, special sessions, never-before-heard songs. Just over two hours of Wilbury musical magic.

Not only is this pertinent to Petty’s birthday, but the very first Traveling Wilburys album (Volume 1) was released 33 years ago this week, on October 18, 1988.

5:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at the Lucca Summer Festival, Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

A great live performance by The Heartbreakers here that you won’t want to miss.

All Day Tom Petty Trifectas!

We’re not putting up a schedule on these. Suffice it to say that they’ll be running at the top of several hours of the day, all day and into the evening. You’ll just have to tune us in to listen in.

It’s a Keep It Simple Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge Today, With Our ‘Country’ EP and Warren Zevon’s “Excitable Boy” As Our AOW, October 10, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s a nice, relaxing Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got some great stuff for you today. We’re uncomplicating our lives here…and yours.

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon NEW!

You know, there’s lots of negative things to talk about where Warren Zevon is concerned. He burned a lot of bridges. He had his demons. But he was, very simply, one of the best singer-songwriters on the planet. Linda Ronstadt proved that several times over. Excitable Boy is one of the best albums ever made. I can’t find one throw-away song on it. Produced by Jackson Browne and Waddy Wachtel, Zevon’s third studio album was released on January 18, 1978. Musicians who played on the album were some of the best-know studio musicians in the business in the 70’s including Russ Kunkel, Rick Marotta, and Mick Fleetwood taking turns on drums, and guitarists Danny Korchmar, Kenny Edwards, Bob Glaub, John McVie, Leland Sklar, and Waddy Wachtel. Background vocals were provided by Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff, Jennifer Warnes, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, and Kenny Edwards. Enjoy.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready For the Country: Various Artists

We bring back our multi-artist EP of real country (not bad pop bands with fiddles) artists and the legends of country-rock. You’ll hear Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Asleep At The Wheel, Jerry Jeff Walker, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Pure Prairie League, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Band, The Byrds, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Mudcrutch and more!

It’s a great day to rest up after another work-a-day week and before the next one starts. If there’s a Big Guy up there, remember that this was also his day of rest. Dump the capitalism today and tune us in. Join our listeners from Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russian Federation, Canada, South Africa, and parts unknown.

Before I knew it, it was our latest EP. You’ll hear Chi Coltrane, Tony Joe White, The Beatles, Three Dog Night, Laura Nyro, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Warren Zevon, The Allman Brothers Band, Shawn Colvin, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Johnny Rivers, Simon & Garfunkel, CSNY, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Badfinger, The Kinks, Carly Simon, Steely Dan, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Holly & The Crickets, and then some!

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and That Brings the Extended-Play ORIGINAL Sixties Rotation Along With Our New Album of The Week From Valerie Carter, October 3, 2021

Good Morning, Music Aficionados everywhere! Here we are with another Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and we’ve got our usual great programming situation going here.

Valerie Carter was way more than just a pretty face. As Jackson Browne sang of her, “That Girl Could Sing.” See for yourself today.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Just A Stone’s Throw Away by Valerie Carter NEW!

For those who do not know Valerie Carter, this album is a great way to start that process. It is so hard to categorize this album (her debut album). It’s a little bit folk, it’s a little bit country, it’s got some jazz moments and it’s a lot of R & B and funk. Carter has an amazing voice that can handle it all. Just A Stone’s Throw was produced by Lowell George (Little Feat), George Massenburg, and Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire). It featured musicians like Jackson Browne, Bob Glaub, Herb Pederson, John Sebastion and literally all of Little Feat. Her back-up singers included Linda Ronstadt, Deniece Williams, Herb Pederson, Lowell George, and Maurice White. Yeah, you’ve got all week to tune it in, but why wait?

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

We have two massive sixties rotation EP’s, and this is the first from the early sixties to the mid-sixties. There’s some overlap in artists from one to the other, but none of the songs overlap. In this EP, you’ll hear from a pretty eclectic line-up that includes Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Dave Clark Five, Petula Clark, Buddy Holly, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Rolling Stones and more!

You cannot go wrong with #BecomeUngovernable Radio. We’re free. We ask for no personal information and no credit card is required because there are no “subscription” fees. We do not accept advertising, so there aren’t any commercials to interrupt the flow of music. This is a good day to join your friends from around the world, including Poland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, France, Portugal, The Russian Federation, and yes, the United States.

We spent some time on our house playlist and it definitely has that peace, love, understanding, social justice and revolution vibe. We’ve got a bunch of great artists including The Beatles, Country Joe & The Fish, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Cat Stevens, James Brown, Sam Cooke, The Band, Woody Guthrie, Donovan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Lennon, Nina Simone, Peter, Paul & Mary, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Buffalo Springfield, Phil Ochs, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and many more! It is now officially one of our EP’s and another upgrade is in the wind for down the road.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Hollies

Undoubtedly one of the great British Invasion bands. We haven’t heard this one for a while, so it’s long overdue.

It’s Another Monday Here and The Beginning of the Week is All About Love and Loss, September 27, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Fall is in the air here this morning, and love is on our minds. That is to say, music about true love and heartbreak. I’m an expert at the second part. That’s why I don’t play in that arena anymore.

First comes love. Then comes heartbreak. We’ve got both ends of the spectrum today.

Here’s your Moan-Day line-up:

11:00 a.m. Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists

We start with the bad news first. That way we can end the day on a more upbeat note. You’ll hear laments from Elvis Presley, Carole King, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Rush, Ray Charles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cat Stevens, The Pretenders, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The J. Geils Band, Guy Clark, Bob Dylan, Them, and many more!

3:00 p.m. True Love Always: Various Artists

This is a much longer and optimistic playlist. Funny how that works out, eh? I’ll have to do some digging into just why it’s the longer of the two. In this particular list you’ll hear The Mamas & The Papas, George Harrison, Valerie Carter, Linda Ronstadt, Mudcrutch, The Hollies, Joni Mitchell, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jonathan Edwards, The Beatles, Neil Young, Basia, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, Guy Clark, The Four Tops, and more!

We’re here with you through the ups and downs of life. We’ve got some folks tuned in this morning from Switzerland, Germany, the UK, Spain, France, The Russian Federation, Brazil, Japan, Denmark, and Italy. We’ve got some new listeners from the U.S. as well over the last few days, some from Kansas and some from Texas. What are you waiting for?

Welcome to Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge Where The Traveling Wilburys Own Our Album of The Week and Folk Music Reigns Supreme With Our Extended Playlist, September 26, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Simplicity is the word of the day today. Lots of Open Stream, but…some really great programming to carry you through your afteroon.

Hell, it’s only the greatest supergroup on the planet: (R-L) George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Bob Dylan.

Here’s Sunday’s musical line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Traveling Wilburys, Volume One NEW!

There are supergroups, then there are SUPERGROUPS. This one is in the latter category. Every poll I’ve seen taken in every music magazine and on every music website puts The Traveling Wilburys at the top of the supergroup heap, and we here in The Mermaid Lounge wholeheartedly agree. It started with George Harrison needing to record a “B side” for a release. The rest is history. You can read about it here.

3:00 p.m. Folk Music From A-to-Z: Various Artists

Folk music is an amazing genre. I remember when folk music purists were upset the day Bob Dylan picked up an electric guitar. Dylan changed the face of folk and made it much more accessible to many people who may have ignored it. You’ll hear Bob Dylan in this EP. You’ll also hear Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, The Beatles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Stone Poneys (featuring Linda Ronstadt), Bruce Springsteen, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, The Band, John Prine, Tom Rush, The Wallflowers, John Prine, Judy Collins, Nanci Griffith, Jesse Winchester, Odetta, Peter, Paul & Mary, and many more!

Sunday is officially a day of rest, so we’re taking it easy in The Mermaid Lounge. But The Music Mermaid is always in control here and you’re all in good hands. I promise. See for yourself.
