On Monday It’s Live Pretenders, a Hot Tuna ‘Spotlight’ Feature, and The Return of Our ‘Friends of Mine’ EP, October 27, 2025

Good morning, working class! We’re back to the work week with style with new live Pretenders, a Hot Tuna ‘Spotlight’ and an evening airing of the ‘Friends of Mine’ EP!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

We’ve got a new-to-the-station live performance by one of my favorite bands of the eighties (and there were not many) to open up the festivities! Chrissie Hynde is a legend.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Hot Tuna

Another fine band here born of the ashes of Jefferson Airplane. There have been many personnel changes over the years, but Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady have been the anchors from the beginning.

6:00 p.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists

This EP has been on a hiatus since about March or April, but it’s back for an evening airing. It’s like Open Stream with a Theme with The Guess Who, War, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt, Todd Rundgren, Amy Winehouse, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel, John Prine, Talking Heads, Joan Baez, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Beatles, The Byrds, Carole King, Steppenwolf, Paul McCartney, Jackson Browne, Lou Reed, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Free, Leon Russell, Robert Johnson, Argent, and more!

We begin yet another week! We’ll be here as always playing the best music on the planet for free. Just hit that button below!

‘Friends Of Mine’ Returns, a J.D. Souther Spotlight Feature and Live Warren Zevon Awaits on Saturday, July 6, 2024

Good morning, musicologists, and welcome to the dog days of summer here in The Mermaid Lounge where the days are hot and the music is even hotter.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists

This one has been on hiatus for a few months, but it’s back and so are The Guess Who, Willie Nelson, War, The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Todd Rundgren, Linda Ronstadt, Queen, REM, Simon & Garfunkel, John Prine, Carole King, Grateful Dead, Lou Reed, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, The Kinks, Joan Baez, The Beatles, Carly Simon, Tracy Nelson, The Byrds, Desmond Dekker, Jackson Browne, Steppenwolf, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elton John, Argent, Maria Muldaur, Otis Redding and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John David Souther

Here’s another artist known more for his songwriting than his singing, but that’s too bad. He’s got a great voice. I’ve never seen him live myself, but I have seen him grace the stage once with Linda Ronstadt, and that was a religious experience. This playlist has a little bit of that, some of his music from Souther-Hillman-Furay, and plenty of his solo stuff.

8:00 p.m. Warren Zevon Live at Club Metro, Boston, MA, September 29, 1982

Club Metro is gone, but it does have its own Facebook page for nostalgia freaks. And Warren Zevon is gone. But his music lives on. Another great songwriter whose songs became a staple for the likes of Linda Ronstadt and others. He was struggling until she began to sing his songs, and he took it from there. One of the best.

We’ve made it to the weekend. After today, I am on hiatus from hardware hell for two full days. But we’ll be here in The Mermaid Lounge cueing up great music. All you need to do is push the button below to check it out.

On Wednesday It’s Our ‘Friends of Mine’ EP, an Elton John Spotlight, and a Great Fab Four Playlist, April 3, 2024

Good morning, music lovers and welcome to midweek here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got a great lineup, including a great Beatles playlist featuring songs with time changes.

Here’s your midweek musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists

We’ve all got friends, some good friends and some not so much. There’s no shortage of songs about friends, and you’ll hear The Guess Who, Willie Nelson, War, The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Todd Rundgren, Linda Ronstadt, Queen, REM, Simon & Garfunkel, John Prine, Carole King, The Grateful Dead, Lou Reed, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, The Kinks, Joan Baez, The Beatles, Carly Simon, Tracy Nelson, The Byrds, Desmond Dekker, Jackson Browne, Steppenwolf, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elton John, Argent, Maria Muldaur, Otis Redding and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Elton John

When Elton John stepped into the music world in 1969, we had no idea how good he was going to be. Over more than five decades, he and his writing mate, Bernie Taupin, have created some great music together.

8:00 p.m. The Beatles: A Change In Time

There is absolutely no debate that The Beatles are the greatest rock band in the world, bar none. They created the music that changed the world, and — encouraged by the great George Martin — employed creative techniques that set them apart from the rest. Tonight we have a playlist of Beatle songs incorporating time changes.

We’re at midweek. After today, we’ll be on the downslide to the weekend once again. So, why not get there in style with the best music on the planet. That’s what we’re all about.

Three brilliant singer-songwriters playing a live show together at a nationally-renowned musical venue for songwriters. This show happened just 15 months before Van Zandt’s death.

We’ve had this one on the burner simmering for months. It finally comes full circle today as we put one of the greatest jazz-rock bands on the planet In the Spotlight. Yet, there is a mystery surrounding what happened to this band that literally burst onto the scene and skyrocketed, and then just seemed to disappear. If you’re interested, here’s the story.
