7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Groovin’ by The Young Rascals NEW!

No doubt, The Rascals are one of our favorite bands; a great rock band that could really make real R&B music. They just kept churning out the hits between 1964 and 1969. You couldn’t keep them off the charts, and they fully deserved to be there. Groovin’ was their third studio album, released on July 31, 1967. It went to #5 on the Billboard Top LP chart, #7 on the R&B chart, and #2 in Canada. Eight of the songs were released as singles, with the title track reaching #1 in the U.S. This would be the final album where they would use the ‘Young’ moniker. Moving on, they would explore psychedelia as did so many bands of this generation. They will be back here again with another AOW.

Throughout his career, J.D. Souther has been primarily known as a songwriter who has been recorded by many artists, including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Today he owns our Album of The Week because we believe he’s more than that. He’s a singer-songwriter (and his turn will be coming up soon) of extraordinary talent, and Black Rose is one of the best albums ever recorded.

For the first time, we had our ‘Here Comes The Night’ and ‘Ode To Morning’ EP’s fall back-to-back. We also trace his career as a solo artist, as well as with Crosby, Stills & Nash (pre-Young) his band, Manassas.

Macca’s body of work since The Beatles split is immense, beginning with his ten years leading Wings (longer than The Beatles existed) and his solo work. If you don’t know David Lindley, he’s one of the most accomplished musicians of his generation who supported some of the best, including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Iggy Pop, Warren Zevon, Curtis Mayfield and Dolly Parton. He also founded the rock band El Rayo-X. He left this world on March 3 of this year. This one is for Mr. Lindley.
