It’s Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge With the ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP to Start Followed by Our AOW and Laura Nyro as the New Featured Singer-Songwriter, January 7, 2023

Good morning, music lovers across the globe! We are here on another Saturday bring you the best music on the planet. We’re starting off with our multi-hour, multi-artist EP about having that travelin’ fever!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

The road is a powerful magnet for some people, and musicians love to sing about it. You’ll hear Canned Heat, the Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Idlewild South by The Allman Brothers Band FINAL AIRING!

We bid a fond farewell to this great album today. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a brand new selection!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Laura Nyro NEW!

Today we intro our new singer-songwriter, Laura Nyro. She’s wrote so many hits for so many people over her career, including The Fifth Dimension (Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Soul Picnic), Barbra Streisand (Stoney End), Blood, Sweat and Tears (And When I Die), and Three Dog Night (Eli’s Comin’). She also had a formidable solo career of her own, and there is nothing like hearing Laura Nyro singer her own songs. You’ll get to do that tonight. We love her here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Tuning our station in is never a bad idea, folks. There’s always the chance you won’t like us, but hey, finding out won’t cost you a thing. We don’t even ask for a credit card. Hell, we don’t even ask your name. Just hit the button below and give us a shot. No strings. No lie.

Saturday Brings the ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, Volume Three of The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Adventure, and Dan Fogelberg as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter as the Holidays Approach, December 17, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists across the globe! Hope you’re all doing well as we tee it up in The Mermaid Lounge this morning. We’ve got a pretty full slate peppering our great wide Open Stream (a little Tom Petty imagery there).

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re talking real country here. And we’re also talking about the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen from the cross-fertilization center of the world: Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA 1997, Volume Three NEW!

The third and final installment as we roll out the brand new Heartbreakers’ compendium of their legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band. They threw away the script and kicked ass, and every one of them felt it was the most creative opportunity the band had, and the highlight of their time together. For the first time ever, there are more cover songs on a Heartbreakers album than original compositions. That was by design as they chose to pay homage to those artists who inspired them. They are, in our humble opinion, the best cover band on the planet.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg NEW!

It’s time to flip the switch to a new featured singer-songwriter, and Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underappreciated. Except here in The Mermaid Lounge, where we made him one of the very first artists to have a ‘Spotlight.’ Today he starts a week in the spotlight as our featured singer-songwriter.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat FINAL AIRING!

Tonight we bit a fond farewell to one of our favorite albums and bands as we close out this week’s featured album. We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new selection.

Saturday is always a bit of a busy day here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we never have more programming than open stream in a 24-hour cycle. We also never run commercial advertising or emply overly-talkative DJ’s. We just play music. Free of charge 24/7. No lie. No surprises. No credit card. No personal information. Ever.

We Begin Another (Albeit, Short) Work Week With Nanci Griffith, Neil Young and Our All About Blue Too Playlist, Monday, November 21, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s another Monday in The Mermaid Lounge and we face another work week. But hey, it’s a shortened work week, so that’s a bonus. Speaking of getting a bonus, we’ve got some great music today, including a new ‘live’ Neil Young performance later.

Here’s your Moan-Day lineup:

11:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Nanci Griffith

We give you Nanci’s second spin as our featured Singer-Songwriter for this week. We will hear this selection at least one more time later in the week before we flip the switch again. Get on it. She’s great.

3:00 p.m. All About Blue Too: Various Artists

We aired the first volume of this a couple weeks ago, so it’s only fitting we air the second half. You’ll hear Robert Johnson, Paul Simon, Laura Nyro, Shawn Colvin, Phoebe Snow, Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, Doc Watson, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Association, Buddy Guy, Linda Ronstadt, Electric Light Orchestra, Guy Clark, Little Feat, The Smithereens, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and more! It’s a couple of hours dedicated to my favorite color.

7:00 p.m. Neil Young Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, May 16, 1974 NEW!

This was a “surprise” live performance by Young and it was recorded and broadcast on WNEW-FM in New York. It was originally only a fan-recorded event, but it was eventually officially released in 2017. When the release came out, there were two songs that were also live performances but not at this venue. We have also included those live songs here and they are the last two songs in this set. Enjoy. Neil Young is always a treat in our book.

Blah. Blah. Blah. I know I must sound like a broken record, but this is a great radio station and it’s time you find that out for realz. Know what I mean? Join us (no fees, no credit card, no personal info required).

We’re On the Downslide to the Weekend With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Some ‘Live’ Stephen Stills and Our AOW, Thursday, November 17, 2022

Good Morning, Gang! Here we are again in The Mermaid Lounge with a great programming landscape for you today that includes some brand new ‘live’ Stephen Stills from London. We start the day with a great multi-artist EP and close it with our Album of The Week!

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

It’s that time again where we pull together the best of REAL country (not bad pop bands with fiddles) and some country-rock born of the Laurel Canyon pioneers. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Asleep At the Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band and more!

7:00 p.m. Stephen Stills Live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London, UK, October 20, 2008 NEW!

Who doesn’t know Stephen Stills, singer-songwriter extraordinaire who has not only had a successful solo career but has been a seminal member of several successful bands, namely Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Manassas. He has combined sales of more than 35 million albums. Tonight we bring you a Stills 2008 concert from the UK.

9:00 p.m. Album of The Week: I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama by Janis Joplin

Our second-to-last airing is tonight at 9:00 p.m., and we’ll have our last airing sometime on Saturday. If you haven’t heard this one yet, you’ve got two more before it’s gone!

The holidays are coming. Give yourself the gift of great music! And we won’t cost you a penny. We’re totally free. Yes, it’s a labor of musical love, and we’re a throwback to real radio. You know, before you paid Spotify and other services to build custom listening lists. But the best part is that we also don’t accept commercial advertising or employ overly-chatty DJ’s who talk through songs. We’re all about the music.

It’s Monday, Monday as We Open Up Reggae Week Here in The Mermaid Lounge! Read On for Details, August 15, 2022

Good Morning, Reggae-ologists! It’s Reggae Week (we are also Ska and Rocksteady inclusive here in The Mermaid Lounge) and that means a little bit of Reggae sunshine in your day nearly every day (the exception will be Tuesday Bluesday), as we bolster our rotation.

L to R: Bob Marley & The Wailers, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Toots & The Maytals.

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jimmy Cliff NEW!

Often called the Grandfather of Reggae, Jimmy Cliff is a Reggae, Ska, and Rocksteady multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter who began his musical journey when he was still in primary school. He also starred in the movie The Harder They Come, which helped to propel Reggae to popularity around the world. He is the only living Reggae musician to receive the Order of Merit, the highest honor you can receive from the Jamaican government for achievement in the arts & sciences. He was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. We kick off Reggae Week by putting him In the Spotlight.

3:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at A & R Studios, New York, NY, August 26, 1971

This afternoon, we take some time with The Brothers live and on stage in NYC. They are always a treat. I’ve seen them ‘live’ several times myself in my lifetime, and have never been disappointed.

7:00 p.m. For Foodies Only: Various Artists

Here’s a fun multi-artist playlist with the mention of food of all kinds in the title, lyrics or both. You will hear The Rolling Stones, Little Feat, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Judy Collins, Steely Dan, Harry Nilsson, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Strangeloves, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Supertramp, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffett, The Kinks, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Fats Domino, The Four Tops, Booker T. & The MGs and more!

Start your day the Reggae way! We hope to broaden your musical horizons this week. We are totally free with absolutely no strings and no surprises. There are no financial commitments. There is no personal information requested. And nothing to fill out. And we run 24/7, not just when we have programming. That’s because we have a big, wide Open Stream of more than 27,000 songs to share with you.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got a Great New Album of The Week and Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, August 14, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! I’m excited as hell about our Album of The Week. It’s an unusual find, but I cannot wait. We also have a lot of that Laurel Canyon country-rock mixed in with our great traditional country EP today.

Here’s your musical lineup for the day:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Songs for Judy by Neil Young NEW!

This is not your typical album, and it’s an exciting choice for our Album of The Week. If you don’t know about the album, you may be assuming it’s a bunch of “period” type songs from Judy Garland as sung by Neil Young. But you’d be wrong. It’s actually a compilation of live acoustic set songs by Neil Young while on his 1976 tour with Crazy Horse. This album comprises all 22 songs that he sung on that tour as part of an opening live acoustic set. Where does Judy Garland come in to all of this? The album title comes from Young’s own story about hallucinating one night and seeing Judy Garland sitting in the orchestra pit. This album is Volume 7 in the Performance Series of The Neil Young Archives.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

You’ll be hearing more Neil Young here because this EP is literally named after one of his songs! In addition to Neil Young, you will hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, The Desert Rose Band, John Prine and more! In fact, just about five hours of uninterrupted country and country rock.

It is, without a doubt, a great day to tune us in. We’ve got a great AOW and a great EP going today. The rest of the 24-hour, non-stop cycle is occupied by our great wide Open Stream under the control of the venerable Music Mermaid. Did I mention that we’re totally free, no strings, no surprises? Ever.

The Work Week is Back and We’ve Got The Hollies, Linda Ronstadt & a Trifecta Afternoon On Tap, Monday, July 25, 2022

Good Morning, Workers! We’re facing another work week and it starts off steamy both inside and out as we’ve got some brand new ‘live’ Linda Ronstadt later on, along with The Hollies and some Trifectas.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Hollies

Formed in Salford, England, in 1962, the Hollies were a force in music throughout the sixties and into the seventies and were most known for their distinctive three-part harmonies. But let’s not get too damned technical here: They were just a great band and one of the most influential British Invasion bands.

2:00 p.m. Open Stream with Afternoon Trifectas!

We haven’t had one of these afternoons in a while, so it is about damned time.

2:00 p.m. Guy Clark

3:00 p.m. Sam Cooke

4:00 p.m. Canned Heat

5:00 p.m. Valerie Carter

6:00 p.m. Norah Jones

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at The Calderone Concert Hall, Hempstead, NY, January 29, 1975 NEW!

Linda Ronstadt was the christening act in the opening of the Calderone back in the day and Tom Rush was her opening act. This performance from 1975 was broadcast on WLIR-FM and most of the songs are from Don’t Cry Now and Heart Like a Wheel. I have seen Ronstadt perform live 39 times in my lifetime, and she never disappointed. Ever. This one is no exception.

Join your friends. We’ve got Croatia, Romania, Spain, the UK, France, Germany, Greece, The Faroe Islands, Australia, Canada, and some folks in Kansas, New York, and Florida on this morning. Make your Monday more tolerable.

We’re at Midweek With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country?’ EP, and Traffic ‘live’ at the Paris Theatre Later, Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s hot enough to boil a monkey’s bum in these parts, but we’re keeping cool with some great music in The Mermaid Lounge.

We’ve got just one question for you today.

Here’s your midweek musical landscape:

You’ll hear Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, and more!

7:00 p.m. Traffic Live From The Paris Theatre, London, UK, April 30, 1970 NEW!

From country to a bit of psychodelia right here in The Mermaid Lounge as we give you Traffic live from the UK. Our many UK listeners are tuned in right now, in fact.

Here we go again, folks. Another day in Hades as we reach the ugly days of summer here in the Boston area. Not my favorite time of year from mid-July to about mid-August. But as we say here, you can’t pick the weather, so you might as well pick good music. And so we are. Then, we’re sharing with you free of charge 24/7 ’round the clock. No commercial interruption, and no need for a credit card.

7:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris Live at My Father’s Place, Roslyn, New York, September 14, 1976 NEW!

Some great early Emmylou Harris here with The Hot Band, one of the greatest bands ever to stand on stage with her. It’s also at a legendary venue, My Father’s Place in New York. There are a lot of songs that came off the great Elite Hotel album that put her on the map, but she had just also released a new gem in Luxury Liner, so that’s represented here as well. She is, without a doubt, a Mermaid Lounge favorite. Live broadcast on WLIR-FM.

Excellent day to tune us in, people. We’ve got some great programming and, as always, our wide Open Stream of 27,000+ songs. It doesn’t get much better than that, although we are working on it. And, oh yeah, did I mention we’re totally, 100%, no-strings-attached free? That’s a bonus.
