Up first is nearly four hours of great music. Let’s call it a smorgasboard of songs culled from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festivals over the years. You’ll hear the cream of the crop like, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., The Robert Cray Band, Willie Nelson, Joe Walsh, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow, Doyle Bramhall II, Buddy Guy, Derek Trucks, and Susan Tedeschi.

Again, it’s kismet. This week’s Album of The Week, Moondog Matinee, just happens to be The Band’s homage to R & B and the blues. It fits just perfectly with today.
In between, we have Open Stream, uninterrupted by idle chatter and commercials, and seasoned with Three-in-a-Row’s from the likes of B.B. King, Janis Joplin, The Allman Brothers Band, and Lucinda Williams.

Today we’ve got all the Bluesbreakers recordings done for the BBC between 1965 and 1967. We are always on the hunt for new music. We’ve got places to go that I’m not even sure how we’ve found, but we’re back on the hunt for some authentic blues again. In the meantime, there’s a reason why John Mayall is known as the Godfather of British Blues. You’ll see.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wreckless Abandon by The Dirty Knobs
A great debut album worth the wait in the midst of this pestilence. It is in today’s pipeline and also now in our general rotation.
7:00 p.m. Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Live at The Country Club, Reseda, CA, October 20, 1987
This is a short little soundboard interlude here with Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck. This was originally a session to record a promo; what ensues here is what happened in between takes, apparently. There is reportedly a longer version of this out there somewhere. I’m determined to find it. In the meantime, enjoy this one.

November 30, 1960: The Shirelles re-released Dedicated To The One I Love, originally released in 1959. It was re-released after Will You Love Me Tomorrow became a hit.
Also on this day, The Beatles finished up their 56-night run at the Kaiserkeller Club in Hamburg, Germany.
November 30, 1963: The Beach Boys song In My Room cracks Billboard’s Top 40. Although it peaks at #23, it becomes one of the band’s most popular songs.
Meanwhile, back in Beatle Land, She Loves You returns to #1 on the UK charts, while the album With The Beatles sits at #1 on the Album charts.
November 30, 1965: Petula Clark, one of the most influential singers of the British Invasion, releases her hit Downtown.
November 30, 1966: Legendary but quirky guitarist Jeff Beck quits The Yardbirds after a year and a half. He later forms The Jeff Beck Group.
November 30, 1968: Sly & The Family Stone released the single Everyday People.
Also on this day, The Supremes topped the Billboard Top 100 with their eleventh hit, Love Child. The song was introduced on The Ed Sullivan Show.
And Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) takes over the #1 slot on the Album charts.
November 30, 1969: The Rolling Stones wrap up a tour with an appearance at the International Raceway Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida. Also appearing at the event are King Crimson, Iron Butterfly, Ten Years After, The Band, Janis Joplin, Steppenwolf, and The Moody Blues.
November 30, 1970:All Things Must Pass is already released in the US. On this day, George Harrison released it in the UK.
November 30. 1971: Al Green, one of the most pleasantly soulful singers on the damned planet, released Let’s Stay Together.
November 30, 1972: Paul McCartney & Wings released the song Hi, Hi, Hi, which is promptly banned by the BBC because of its “unsuitable lyrics.” In site of that it goes to #5 in the UK. It will peak at #10 in the US.
November 30, 1974: The Eagles Best of My Love is released. It will become one of The Eagles’ five US #1 singles.
November 30, 1977: The Atlanta Rhythm Section released the single, So Into You.
November 30, 1980: Pink Floyd releases their double-album masterpiece, The Wall.
November 30, 2001: In Liverpool, flags are flown at half staff in memory of George Harrison. In London, the Coldstream Guards play a Beatles medley during the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace in his honor.

November 30, 1944: Rob Grill, singer, songwriter and bassist for the seventies hit machine known as The Grass Roots, was born in Los Angeles.
November 30, 1945: Roger Glover, songwriter, producer and bassist for Deep Purple, was born in Brecon, Wales.

The Yardbirds are a British blues-rock band formed in London in May of 1963. The original lineup featured vocalist and harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty, rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja and bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith. Throughout the years, other band members have come and gone.
During the BBC Sessions featured in this playlist, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page circulated in and out of the band.
4:00 p.m. Album of the Week: On The Border by The Eagles
This was The Eagles third studio album, and they added Don Felder to go for a more rock feel than the first two albums.
6:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: Booker T. & The M.G.’s
Booker T. & The M.G.’s were a musical force in the sixties. Formed in Memphis in 1962, the band was influential in shaping the unique sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original band members were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). As the de facto house band for Stax Records, they also played for artists like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, and Delaney & Bonnie.

Wildflowers was the second solo studio album by Tom Petty, and it was released on November 1, 1994. In spite of Petty’s desire to break free of the constraints of the band, he used most of his compadres as session musicians. The album resulted in four single releases, the most successful of which was You Don’t Know How It Feels. Tom Rush is one of those guys who could easily go unnoticed, but that would be a giant mistake. Tom Rush has influenced an entire generation of musicians, including Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. He is credited by Rolling Stone magazine with creating the era of the singer-songwriter. Tom Rush has been a quiet force in music for a very long time. I recently saw him in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (his birth place), and he was doing just fine at 79.
