He also forged a successful solo career after the band broke up, writing Centerfield and The Old Man Down The Road. He is this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

Today’s the final airing of this great blues album by singer-songwriter Susan Tedeschi. Don’t miss it!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Paul McCartney NEW!

Paul McCartney is undoubtedly one of the most successful singer-songwriters of his generation with absolutely nothing left to prove to the world. Yet, he’s still out there making music and filling venues at the age of 81. And yes, it all began with The Beatles all those years ago, but this particular playlist is McCartney without The Beatles. And that’s because we still have yet to do Lennon-McCartney as our featured singer-songwriters. (That is coming.) Macca’s body of work since The Beatles split is immense, beginning with his ten years leading Wings (longer than The Beatles existed) and his solo work. This is how we kick off his birthday bash weekend. More tomorrow.

We’re here 24/7, folks, and we’re totally free of charge. We also fight capitalism at every turn because there is absolutely no commercial advertising. Join our international community this weekend.

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Aretha Franklin, and Ringo Starr, Wednesday, May 17, 2023

Good morning, music lovers. As I prepare to head out I’m giving you the lowdown. We’ve got our big-ass country and country-rock EP up today, Aretha’s second turn as our featured singer-songwriter, and an updated Spotlight featuring Ringo Starr.

Here’s your midweek musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

You will hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Hank Williams, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dolly Parton, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Aretha Franklin

From country to the Queen of Soul as Aretha Franklin takes her second turn as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Ringo Starr UPDATED!

Perhaps not as prolific as McCartney (but who is?), but Ringo Starr has made over 39 albums since The Beatles split. His All Starr Band tours continue to pack them in and, in his 80’s, he’s got his 2023 tour on track. Tonight we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

It’s midweek. From here on out, we’re on the downslide to the weekend. It gets better from here, people. And it will be a pleasant slide if you simply tune us in. We’re totally free 24/7 with no commercial advertising. What are you waiting for?

7:00 p.m. Ry Cooder & David Lindley Live at The Vienna Opera House, Vienna, Austria, July 6, 1995 NEW!

This is a brand new live recording to The Lounge with two greats on the road together. You probably all know Ry Cooder. If you don’t know David Lindley, he’s one of the most accomplished musicians of his generation who supported some of the best, including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Iggy Pop, Warren Zevon, Curtis Mayfield and Dolly Parton. He also founded the rock band El Rayo-X. He left this world on March 3 of this year. This one is for Mr. Lindley.

Hell, it’s Monday. We all need a boost as we start a new work week and try to make our way back to the weekend. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge. Give us a listen.

Good Morning, Weekenders! We’ve Got the Final Airing of Our AOW, the ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP and a Brand New Singer-Songwriter Feature on Saturday, March 18, 2023

Yes, we’ve made it to Saturday, and that can only be a good thing. We’ve got some great stuff lined up, including the late, great Christine McVie as this week’s singer-songwriter.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Hot Chili Mama by BeauSoleil FINAL AIRING!

We’re bidding a very fond farewell to BeauSoleil’s great album of Cajun and Zydeco music today, but there’s more where that came from. We promise. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new album for you.

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country: Various Artists

We’re back with our great EP of real country (not bad pop bands with fiddles) and country-rock pioneers today, including Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, The Eagles, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep At The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Chris Hillman & The Desert Rose Band and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Christine McVie NEW!

Many people consider Stevie Nicks the driving force behind Fleetwood Mac, but we consider that force to be Christine McVie the writer and singer, of many of their biggest hits (Say You Love Me, Little Lies, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun). Rolling Stone magazine calls her ‘the beating heart of Fleetwood Mac.’ She was was part of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac (before Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham; when they were a blues band) and a woman who was a fixture in the mid-60’s British blues scene. She is this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

This is an excellent day to join us (not literally, because there are absolutely no ‘joinng’ requirements). See for yourself. Just pull up a tab and click the button below.

Saturday Brings Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, the Final Airing of Our AOW, and Our New Singer-Songwriter Series, October 15, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We start the day by announcing a new series revolving around singer-songwriters, some of them travel in pairs (Lennon-McCartney, John-Taupin, and some go solo, like James Taylor and Bob Dylan). To accommodate our new series, we are taking a break from our LIVE DEAD! broadcast. But fear not, we’ll move Dead concerts into the regular programming rotation.

We kick off our new Singer-Songwriter Series tonight at 10:00 p.m.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

Once again, we pay homage to the pioneers of the country-rock genre and also to the artists of real country music (not bad pop bands with fiddles). You’ll hear from Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John FINAL AIRING!

This is the final day for Gris-Gris, Dr. John’s debut album combining New Orleans R & B with Psychedelic Voodoo. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a new psychedelic album!

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriters: The Music of Paul Simon NEW!

We put LIVE DEAD! on hiatus for a while and begin our series on Singer-Songwriters in this broadcast hour. You’ll be hearing from some of our regulars, but there’ll be some new additions as well. Every Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. We begin to night with the music of Paul Simon, both as a member of Simon & Garfunkel and as a solo artist.

It’s a Mermaid Lounge Saturday and we begin a new feature this week. We hope you’ll give us a shot and tune us in. We’re totally free every single day of the week, no joining fees, no “subscriptions” required, no personal information asked for, and no surprises. Just push the button below.

We’re at The Midweek Point with Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP and The Band ‘Live’ in Asbury Park Later, Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We begin the day just a bit early as it is Truck Day in ACE Hardware retail land. But we will have control of the music we have to listen to, and it’ll be right here.

They started as Dylan’s back-up band and became one of the most influential bands in popular music history. And they are most certainly a Mermaid Lounge favorite.

Here’s your midweek line-up:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re back with our tribute to real country music (not bad pop bands with fiddles, as Tom Petty calls the pretenders), and the Laurel Canyon crowd who were instrumental in the development of country-rock. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine and more!

7:00 p.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, New Jersey, July 20, 1976

As Robbie Robertson explains, they wound up with their name because that’s what everyone referred to them as when they were recording in the early years. From their beginnings as Dylan’s back-up band, The Band became one of the most revered and influential bands in music history. We here in The Mermaid Lounge love The Band. They are in our top three. Guess who the other two are.

One more day on the front lines of retail hell coming up. We had a totally unhinged woman with a paintbrush up her ass come in yesterday. It was a thing of beauty. We’re going to see if we caught her tirade on camera. But hey, it’s a new day and we’ve got great music on tap.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got a Great New Album of The Week and Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, August 14, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! I’m excited as hell about our Album of The Week. It’s an unusual find, but I cannot wait. We also have a lot of that Laurel Canyon country-rock mixed in with our great traditional country EP today.

Here’s your musical lineup for the day:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Songs for Judy by Neil Young NEW!

This is not your typical album, and it’s an exciting choice for our Album of The Week. If you don’t know about the album, you may be assuming it’s a bunch of “period” type songs from Judy Garland as sung by Neil Young. But you’d be wrong. It’s actually a compilation of live acoustic set songs by Neil Young while on his 1976 tour with Crazy Horse. This album comprises all 22 songs that he sung on that tour as part of an opening live acoustic set. Where does Judy Garland come in to all of this? The album title comes from Young’s own story about hallucinating one night and seeing Judy Garland sitting in the orchestra pit. This album is Volume 7 in the Performance Series of The Neil Young Archives.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

You’ll be hearing more Neil Young here because this EP is literally named after one of his songs! In addition to Neil Young, you will hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, The Desert Rose Band, John Prine and more! In fact, just about five hours of uninterrupted country and country rock.

It is, without a doubt, a great day to tune us in. We’ve got a great AOW and a great EP going today. The rest of the 24-hour, non-stop cycle is occupied by our great wide Open Stream under the control of the venerable Music Mermaid. Did I mention that we’re totally free, no strings, no surprises? Ever.
