We close it out on a trip in the Wayback Machine to a performance from one of the most influential bands in psychedelic music from Golden Gate Park.

We’re here again today as we are every day, and today we close the post by commending Senator Cory Booker for his heroic filibuster against the most evil empire of our time. We must prevail, folks. We did vow no politics, but these are the times that call for stepping outside those promises. And we’d like to tell you that we’re anti-capitalist because capitalism gone mad is what has brought us here. The button is below.

We end the month of February with songs about people, some real and some not, Hot Tuna ‘In the Spotlight’ and Steely Dan live in Cincinnati.

Here’s your Friday lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

We start out with songs about people, some real and some imagined from Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Hot Tuna

From out of the ashes of Jefferson Airplane’s demise came one of the greatest blues-rock bands of all time. They’re still out there. While some of the people in the band have changed over the years, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady have always been at the helm.

8:00 p.m. Steely Dan Live at The National City Pavillion, Cincinnati, OH, July 13, 2008

Speaking of great, along with The Heartbreakers, this band helped anchor the seventies. Tonight we close the festivities with a live performance from Cincinnati.

We’re here 24/7 and we’re totally free. We’re on the cusp of the weekend and there’s no better way to get through the final day of the work week than with us. The button is below.

It’s ‘Mudcrutch Monday Madness’, Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ EP and George Harrison, December 30, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We inch toward the new year with trepidation given that The Orange Blob is back, but the music from The Mermaid Lounge will remain a constant.

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Mudcrutch Monday Madness: The Works

We start off with Mudcrutch’s complete works. We haven’t had one of these for a while and it is long overdue. For those who may not know who Mudcrutch is (although I’d find that hard to believe at this stage), it was the band Tom Petty left Gainesville with and headed out to L.A. The band would not be successful until after it had morphed into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers when Petty reunited it. They’re a damned fine band.

1:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We have volume two today, which covers the mid-to-late sixties with The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Elvis Presley, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimmy Cliff, Chuck Berry, The Byrds, Ray Charles, The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, The Four Tops, CSNY, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Joni Mitchell, B. B. King, Marvin Gaye and more!

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of George Harrison

We close out the day with George Harrison and his music with The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys and as a solo artist. He was known as ‘the quiet Beatle’, but Wilbury’s band mate and fiercely loyal friend, Tom Petty, differed with that assessment. You can read his take here.

We’re here every day with all music all day long. In between our programs, we offer a great rotating lineup of more than 27,000 songs. Nobody has that kind of playlist. See for yourselves. The button is below.

A one-man hit machine from the sixties into the early seventies. Johnny Rivers made some great rock and roll music and we put him ‘In the Spotlight’ this afternoon.

Spend the Day With America, Rickie Lee Jones and Volume Two of Our ‘Sixties Rotation’ on Saturday, September 28, 2024

Good morning, sunshines! Here we are again functioning as weekenders and we’ve got a great lineup for you today that starts with some new music (relatively speaking; all of our music is pretty old music) and wraps up with a trip in the Wayback Machine!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

There are just some bands you are drawn to. This is one of those bands, in fact. I became an early adopter with A Horse With No Name. Over the years, they have made a lot of great music, much of which is buried on their albums. That’s the beauty of America. They were also innovative enough to catch the eye of a guy named George Martin.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Rickie Lee Jones

The Spotlight is on Rickie Lee Jones, another female artists who is difficult to box into a style of music. Over her five-decade career she has recorded in various musical styles, including rock, R&B, pop, soul, and jazz.

6:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We close out the evening on Sixties music from The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimmy Cliff, The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, The Four Tops, CSNY, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, The Doors, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell and more!

Whew. That’s quite a lineup. And it’s all free. No lie. Here’s the other thing: We’re on 24/7; not just when we have schedule programs. We’ve got more than 27,000 songs to share with you. The button is below.

At Midweek It’s Games With Names, a Bonnie Raitt Spotlight, Plus Jackson Browne & Warren Zevon Together on Wednesday, May 15, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re at midweek and we are in the groove here as we kick things off in our ‘What’s In A Name’ multi-artist EP. Some characters are real; some not.

Here’s your midweek musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In A Name: Various Artists

Did you ever wonder if the people musical artist sing about are real or flights of imagination? It’s a neat little guessing game you can play with The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Bonnie Raitt

Bonnie Raitt is, by all accounts, an amazing roots-influenced singer and slide guitarist whose style encompasses blues, country, folk and rock. Today we put her In The Spotlight.

8:00 p.m. Jackson Browne & Warren Zevon In Session, VPRO Studios, Hilversum, Netherlands, December 8 1976

Two of the best singer-songwriters of their generation get together for a live acoustic set at VPRO Studios in The Netherlands.

We’re at midweek and we’re on the downslide to the weekend once we get through this day. Make it easy on yourselves by tuning in for some great music that won’t cost you a penny or subject you to commercial advertising. The button’s below.

Here’s your midweek musical lineup:

9:00 a.m.  The Female Species: Various Artists

It’s not songs by women this morning, but songs about women.
