On Monday, It’s ‘The Trio Sessions,’ John Fogerty ‘In the Spotlight,’ and Jimi Hendrix Experience Live in L.A., On July 7, 2025

Good morning, music lovers! We’re back to Monday and we’ve got a great lineup to start your week, beginning with a supergroup that nobody who writes about music ever calls a ‘supergroup.’ That’s probably because they’re women. We will call them that because that’s exactly what Trio is, a supergroup.

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Trio Sessions: Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt

A true, bona fide supergroup of brilliant women, who were also friends, made some incredible music together (much like the Traveling Wilburys). Today we give you the songs, some alternative versions, remixes, remasters, and more! A great way to start a Monday for sure.

4:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of John Fogerty

This afternoon we give you the legendary John Fogerty, leader, guitarist, and primary songwriter for Creedence Clearwater Revival, and also from his very successful solo career. Don’t be confused. He did release an album called The Blue Ride Rangers, but this was to distance himself from his CCR legend. Fogerty played all the instruments. It was his first solo release, and his name was not mentioned on the cover.

8:00 p.m. The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at the Los Angeles Forum, Los Angeles, CA, April 26, 1969

It’s into the Wayback Machine for this one. The Experience was recorded live on this day during the band’s final North American tour.

Another day off from work is always welcome, even if it’s hot as the blazes outside. It certainly cool here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’re on 24/7 at no charge to the listening public. All you need to do is hit the button below. No subscription required.

Her songs have been covered by many singers, including Emmylou Harris, Rory Block and Bette Midler. She has won numerous Grammy awards, but women still do not get representative play time on the airwaves. Unless, of course, you listen to us! You can learn more about Patty here.

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

What’s in a name? Ask Shakespeare. Or ask Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Randy Newman

Randy Newman is back for his second airing as our featured singer-songwriter for the week.

When John Fogerty appeared at this performance in 2008, it was his first time returning to that venue since Creedence played there in 1971 and, believe me, it was well worth the wait.

10:00 a.m. The Best of Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska: Various Artists

We’ve got all the greats you know, and some you may never have heard. You’ll hear Prince Buster, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Judy Mowatt, Jimmy Cliff, Basil Gabbidon, The Rhythm Aces, Derrick Morgan, Laurel Aitken, Count Lasher, The Jiving Juniors, Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley, Desmond Dekker & The Aces, The I-Threes, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Toots & The Maytals and more!

We bid a fond farewell to John Fogerty today, the heart and soul of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tomorrow we’ll introduce a brand new artist.

We’re pretty obsessed with The Heartbreakers as a cover band. No doubt about it, they’re the best. They respect the intentions of the composers and play them the way they were meant to be played. Their heralded 20-night residency at the famed Fillmore in 1997 was an amazing feat, changing the set list every night, allowing the fans to request songs and help build the show, and having special guests like Roger McGuinn and John Lee Hooker on stage with them. Tonight we give you a couple of hours of covers from the Fillmore ’97 residency. Not to be missed.

8:00 p.m. Badfinger Live at The Cowtown Auditorium, St. Louis, MO, April 7, 1972

Badfinger hung around on the edges of greatness, but never quite got there. And mostly because of a really bad guy who managed them wiped them out financially (not The Beatles either). They were the one bona fide band the Apple Label signed, and they left us a bucket load of great songs.

Come on. We’re at midweek, and everything is downhill from here. We’re headed for the weekend (and I’m headed for vacation) after today. Let us help you get there!

Saturday Brings Linda Ronstadt, Our ‘Are You ReadyFor the Country’ EP, and John Fogerty as our Singer-Songwriter, October 21, 2023

Our official Queen of All Music bids us a fond farewell today as she and her friends serenade us for one more time. But not to worry, all of our AOWs are included in our standard rotation, so you’ll hear all of these songs again.

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

This is our big, bad country EP with both traditional country musicians and the pioneers of country-rock. As the heart and soul of Creedence Clearwater Revival, this guy has written some of the most incredible songs of the sixties and seventies, including Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son, and so many more. He also forged a successful solo career after the band broke up, writing Centerfield and The Old Man Down The Road. He is this week’s featured singer-songwriter.
