Welcome to Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge With Our Final Airing of “Harvest,” Our Extended Country-Country Rock Playlist, and LIVE DEAD Later, on September 11, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers. Here in the Lounge, we love all kinds of music, such as REAL country (not bad pop bands with fiddles). Today we give them airtime, and we also celebrate the birth of country-rock with those who helped create the genre.

Here’s Saturday’s programming:

9:30 a.m. Album of The Week: Harvest by Neil Young FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of Neil Young’s brilliant Harvest album. Tomorrow when you wake up, we’ll be featuring a brand new album. You won’t want to miss that one either!

12:00 p.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re back with our monthly homage to real country music (not bad pop bands with fiddles) and we celebrate the birth of country-rock which actually came out of Laurel Canyon in the seventies. You’ll hear Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Linda Ronstadt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Asleep at The Wheel, The Eagles, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Gram Parsons, The Band, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Pure Prairie League, Mudcrutch, and many more!

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Broome County Arena, Binghamton, New York, November 6, 1977 NEW!

Another great performance by the world’s premier jam band. No. We don’t mean Dead & Company. We’re talking about the real thing. The Grateful Dead. Because anyone who’s a real deadhead knows it ain’t The Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia, no matter how hard they try to convince you otherwise.

Tune us in, folks. We can’t say it frequently enough: WE DON’T COST A THING. EVER. We run 24/7 uninterrupted, unless the sun explodes or something. We don’t ask for your credit card or personal information. And we sure in hell don’t run endless commercials between song sets.

Saturday Delivers A Great New Playlist, NOT The Album of The Week, The Actual Album of The Week, and LIVE DEAD, September 4, 2021

Here we are with our usual frenetic Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge, and we wish you a great Good Morning. We’ve got some really cool stuff on tap, including a brand new playlist called Repeat After Me.

Today we’ve got a great new playlist of remakes and reboots along with the originals!

Here’s your Saturday line-up!

11:00 a.m. Repeat After Me: Various Artists NEW!

I was driving home from work when this idea came into my head and I wondered what the hell took me so long. I also have to tell you that I somehow feel this is simply the first volume. I thought of even more this morning. Here we have some great songs that have also been the beneficiaries of great remakes. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that is certainly the case in the music world. The best want to remake and pay tribute to the best songwriters and performers who have inspired their own music.

The playlist for this volume will be in the blog under the “Playlist” tab. Just click on it and scroll to the bottom.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Countdown to Ecstasy by Steely Dan FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of this great album. Get on it while you can. Tomorrow, we’ve got a brand new album to feature, and it’s one that just got its 50th Anniversary edition to boot!

7:00 p.m. NOT The Album of The Week: Surf N’ Burn by The Blue Stingrays

Last summer we added surf music to our repertoire, but we’ve not given it much of an audience this summer, regrettably I might add. As we work on the Labor Day Weekend, we’re going to play Surf N’ Burn by The Blue Stingrays. There’s a story behind this one. This band made one album, although the liner notes called them the premier surf music band of the sixties (when surf music first burst onto the music scene). The band is actually Mike Campbell and Ron Blair (of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), and Randall Marsh (drummer for Mudcrutch, another Tom Petty band). The did this anonymously because they didn’t want to detract from The Heartbreakers meteoric rise of 1997, the year the album was released. They didn’t particularly care if it even sold a copy (which it did; I have one). They did it because they love the sound of surf music.

The album was just picked up and re-released a few weeks ago. If you are a lover of guitars (and of Mike Campbell, simply one of the best guitarists on the planet), then there’s something about surf guitar music that can’t be explained. Tune it in and see for yourself.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles, California, July 1, 1973

This is one of the few repeat performances we’ve played since starting LIVE DEAD three years ago, but it also hasn’t been aired since 2019. It’ll be like new, just like every live performance The Dead has done. We have several brand new never-before-played concerts in the bucket. We just need to get them ready.

Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge is pretty busy, and this one is no different. Give us a shot. We’ve got listeners from all over this morning, including Italy, Israel, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, France, Germany, The Russian Federation, Romania, Spain and even The Republic of Korea. We’re sitting here waiting on the U.S. (although we do have someone from North Carolina and someone from Texas this morning). Tune us in. Get with the damned program.

The Trifecta is back with all new artists! See the schedule below.

Here’s Saturday’s musical schedule:

All Day Trifectas: Three-in-a-Row From Various Artists NEW!

11:00 a.m. Bob Dylan

12:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris

1:00 p.m. Eric Clapton

2:00 p.m. Janis Joplin

3:00 p.m. Lucinda Williams

4:00 p.m. Steve Winwood

5:00 p.m. The Kinks

6:00 p.m. Wilson Pickett

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Goin’ Home, A Tribute to Fats Domino: Various Artists FINAL AIRING!

Sadly, this great album made in tribute to the legendary music pioneer, Fats Domino, is in it’s final airing. Tomorrow when you wake up, there will be a brand new featured album.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA, April 2, 1973 NEW!

I’ve seen many a concert in this legendary venue, which has now sadly been transformed into a mega-arena. It was supposedly done to improve the sound quality, but I think that’s utter bullshit. I digress. This show was just over three hours of sheer bliss. If you’re a Deadhead, come join the fun tonight.

Great day to tune us in. I do, of course, say that every day because I have to say something. We have many listeners from around the world. Music, as they say, is a universal language. We’re waiting for the U.S. to catch up…and catch on.

It’s Another Saturday Here and We’ve Got Linda, Emmylou and Dolly, The Final Airing of Our Album of The Week, LIVE DEAD, and The Return of The Trifectas, August 7, 2021

Hi Gang! It’s Saturday, but that’s just another day in retail hell for me. But you? We’ve got some great stuff today, and we’re switching up the format just a hair. Don’t get all alarmed. It’s not a new pattern.

Three women who have been friends for a very long time grace our airwaves today

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris & Dolly Parton: The Complete Trio Sessions

It has been a while since we aired this, but it’s sooooo good. This collection includes outtakes that were never released, alternate versions of those that were and, of course, the actual final songs that appeared on Trio I and Trio II. We hear the term “supergroup” an awful lot, but like a lot of things in music, it is never a term applied to women.

We are applying it here in The Mermaid Lounge and have always called this brilliant musical alliance of friends a supergroup. That is what they were.

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Downhill From Everywhere by Jackson Browne FINAL AIRING!

This is it! This is the final airing of Browne’s brand new album, so don’t miss it. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a brand new album for you.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Honolulu Civic Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, January 23, 1970

This is our first repeat in two years. And it’s a great one. It’ll be like brand new. But, of course, every show from these road warriors is like brand new. Am I right?

Hourly Return of the Trifectas: Various Artists

We’re tossing in some great trifectas today in between Jackson Browne and The Dead:

6:00 p.m. Little Feat

7:00 p.m. Janis Joplin

8:00 p.m. Steely Dan

9:00 p.m. Talking Heads

Tune us in, people. We are totally free and without commercial interruption. You literally have to do not one thing except pull up a tab and click the link below. We collect no information and do not track your IP either.

The Final Airing of McCartney’s CHOBA B CCCP, LIVE DEAD Later, and The British Are Coming! Saturday, July 24, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got our usual busy Saturday today, but we’re doubling up on extended plays this month due to the Fillmore Fest at the beginning. Nevertheless, it’s a great day of music.

Later tonight, it’s The Dead live at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa!

Here’s today’s line-up (please note times are a bit different today):

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: CHOBA B CCCP by Paul McCartney FINAL AIRING!

Today we’ve got the final airing of this great album by McCartney. Tomorrow when you tune us in, we’ll have another great new selection.

2:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

This is a great multi-artist playlist that runs for about five hours uninterrupted, paying homage to the music of The British Invasion and beyond. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, The Who, Cilla Black, Petula Clark, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Them, The Dave Clark Five, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Queen, Herman’s Hermits, Peter & Gordon, The Zombies, and many more!

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Memorial Coliseum, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa NEW!

Another outstanding live performance by the world’s ultimate jam band, this one from the University of Alabama.

As always, Saturday is a great day to tune us in. Be there or be square, as they say. It won’t cost you a penny because, yes, there is still great free music out there.

It’s Saturday Here in The Mermaid Lounge and We’ve Got (A Little Bit O’) Soul, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and LIVE DEAD Later, July 17, 2021

It’s another Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re on full throttle soul today. We have our extended play list going, along with the final airing of Exit Wounds by The Wallflowers, and LIVE DEAD late this evening.

Here’s Saturday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Today we are playing a bit of catch-up after our Fillmore Fiesta earlier in the month, so we give you our Little Bit O’ Soul extended playlist. This gem features The Temptations, The Ronettes, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Ruffin, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Carla Thomas, Fontella Bass, Slim Harpo, Ben E. King, Nina Simone, Jackie Wilson, The Ad Libs, Booker T & The MGs, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and many more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Exit Wounds by The Wallflowers FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of our latest Album of The Week, Exit Wounds by Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers, their first new album in a decade. Tomorrow we’ll feature a brand new album for the upcoming week.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! Rocking the Cradle: The Grateful Dead Live in Egypt, Recorded Live September 15 & 16, 1978 NEW!

Live Grateful Dead recorded at the Giza pyramid complex. Unlike some of the live performances you are treated to, this is actually not a soundboard recording but one that was mixed down and released in 2008, on the 30th anniversary of the event. Enjoy.

Saturdays are always a great day to tune us in. We’re usually chock full of great programming in addition to our full catalogue of live stream. And best of all, we’re free 24/7 every day of every week.

Fillmore Forward With The Allman Brothers Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and LIVE DEAD Later, Saturday, July 3, 2021

Onward Fillmorians! We move forward with three great bands today from both Fillmore venues. Our only exception to the Fillmore rule will be the final airing of Kate Taylor’s Album of The Week.

It was tough accessing some of the actual posters for these dates, but we did our best to choose alternatives wisely!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Fillmore East, March 12-13, 1971 NEW!

We have all of these legendary recordings in our vast collection. These are the best culled over the 1971 Allman Brothers appearances.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sister Kate by Kate Taylor FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of Kate Taylor’s great album from 1971. We eagerly await her brand new August 2021 release. Tomorrow, however, when you roll out of bed we have a masterful selection for you.

6:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore West, July 4 1971

CCR delivers their special brand of swamp music in what is the final day of The Fillmore West’s existence under Bill Graham. It’s hard to believe these guys were born and raised in Berkeley, California. Their ‘born on the bayou’ sound was truly amazing. One of the best bands to ever exist.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Fillmore West, July 2, 1971

We resurrect this great show for our Fillmore extravaganza. What would this celebration be without the ultimate jam band’s inclusion?

This is a great warm-up for tomorrow’s grand finale! We hope you’ll tune our special July 4 celebration. Forget all the flag-waving and fireworks bullshit. This is where the party’s at.

Saturday Brings Bob Dylan With Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in NY, The Rascals In the Spotlight, LIVE DEAD, and the Final Airing of Our AOW, June 26, 2021

Saturday is the busiest day we have here in The Mermaid Lounge, and today is no exception! We’ve got quite a line-up on tap for you all today, as I toil in the world of retail bullshit.

Dylan With The Heartbrakers on The True Confessions Tour.

Here’s Saturday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Bob Dylan with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Live at Rich Stadium, New York, July 4, 1986 NEW!

From the second leg of the infamous True Confessions tour. We’ve aired other shows from this tour in the past, but never this venue. According to Mike Campbell, it was playing with Bob Dylan that taught the band how to be spontaneous on stage and respond to what the audience wanted. If that’s the case, they learned their lesson well.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Blues From Laurel Canyon by John Mayall FINAL AIRING!

The final airing of Blues From Laurel Canyon is today, so make sure you’re on your tab at 3:00 p.m. When you wake up Sunday, there will be a brand new Album of The Week.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The (Young) Rascals

One of the finest bands ever to enter a recording studio right here. A Mermaid Lounge favorite for sure, and they are taking their place in the spotlight today.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Academy of Music, New York, March 26, 1972 NEW!

Another new show from the world’s premier jam band. This one comes from the Academy of Music in New York. Eventually we’ll have to start repeating shows, but not yet. There are still plenty to go, and every show is different…even on the same tour.

Saturday is always a great day to listen in to #BecomeUngovernable Radio. (I know I sound like a broken record.) We are totally free every single day, not just occasionally as we try to pick up listeners. There is no bait-and-switch. We ask for no personal information, no credit card, and no subscription. What are you waiting for?

Today, We Have The Heartbreakers Live on the 40th Anniversary Tour, Sweet Soul Music Vintage 1965, The Final Airing of our AOW, and LIVE DEAD Later, Saturday, June 19, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers, and welcome to our usual frenzied Saturday of programming. We have a wild one today, including our very first live performance from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ 40th Anniversary Tour!

Today we air our very first live performance of The Heartbreakers’ live on the 40th Anniversary Tour!

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The American Airlines Center, Dallax, Texas, April 22, 2017 NEW!

This is the very first airing of any of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ 40th Anniversary Tour, and this one comes from Dallas. We have a lot of TPATH live performances here in The Mermaid Lounge, but this is the first time we are airing anything from that final tour.

The set list will be posted under the Playlist tab. Just scroll to the bottom!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: In The Midnight Hour & Other Hits by Wilson Pickett FINAL AIRING!

This will be the last time you can tune this album in. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have another fine album to feature for the week.

7:00 p.m. Sweet Soul Music 1965: Various Artists

We’ve got some great soul music on tap for you today, all vintage 1965 releases from Otis Redding, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Radiants, The Ad Libs, The Dixie Cups, Lee Dorsey, Roy Head & The Taints, Fontella Bass, The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Ramsey Lewis Trio, and more!

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Saenger Performing Arts Center, New Orleans, Louisiana, October 18, 1980 NEW!

Yet another never-before-heard-here performance by the master of all jam bands, The Dead. This one is from one of my favorite cities, New Orleans.

The set list for this show will also be under the Playlist tab. Again, just scroll to the bottom.

Again, I will say that this is a great day to find out what we’re all about. Saturday is our busiest programming day, yet this represents only just over seven hours of music that we stream in a 24-hour day. We’re totally free, we do not run advertising, and the rest of the time is dedicated to Open Stream. Just pull up a tab and click the link below.
