Saturday in The Lounge Brings ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and LIVE DEAD! Later, June 11, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! It’s your time here in The Mermaid Lounge and we kick off the day with our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP (not to be confused with ‘M is For Motown’). This covers soul and R & B from all over the spectrum!

Today we’ve all got ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’

Here’s Saturday’s lineup:

10:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Motown is the most renown, but it’s not the only record label for the genre. There was Stax with Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett; Muscle Shoals where Aretha Franklin released her first song in 1967; and Atlantic, with Ray Charles. Many of those who recorded for Muscle Shoals were distributed through Atlantic. We’ve got them all for you today including Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Irma Thomas and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Living With the Animals by Mother Earth LAST AIRING!

Here’s the final airing of this great blues album featuring the amazing voice of Tracy Nelson. When you roll out of bed tomorrow morning there will be a brand new selection.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Dillon Stadium, Hartford, Connecticut, July 31, 1974

Another great soundboard recording from the Dead. It’s not new, but it hasn’t been aired since 2020 so it will be just like new. Remember, no two shows are the same anyway.

Get your weekend underway in style! We’ve got some great programming for you today interspersed in between all that great wide Open Stream. We’re totally free. That not only means that we’re free of commercial advertising, but we also don’t charge for anyone to listen. What’s not to love?

We’ve Got Our ‘A Little Bit O’Soul’ EP Today Along With A Very Fitting ‘Good Luck, Bad Luck, Dumb Luck’ Playlist Later, Friday, May 13, 2022

Happy Friday the 13th, Oh Superstitious Ones (and I know several)! Today we’ve got our great R & B and soul EP going along with a topic central to the day: LUCK. Is yours good, bad, or just plain dumb luck?

7:00 p.m. Good Luck, Bad Luck, Dumb Luck: Various Artists

It may not be an EP, but it’s loaded with great acts like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cream, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Steve Winwood, The Beatles, The Eagles, Albert King, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, Fats Domino, Jethro Tull, Genesis, The Wallflowers, Bob Dylan, Wings, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joe Walsh, Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, Paul McCartney, The Byrds, and more!

And, of course, we continue on with tradition as we give you that wide Open Stream before, in between and post-programming. This means we’re on 24/7 non-stop at no cost to our listeners. What more do you need, people?

We Keep It Simple Today With Asleep at The Wheel’s Album of The Week and Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, Sunday, April 10, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we do something we’ve been wanting to do for a while, which is to introduce you to one of the finest Texas swing bands ever to walk the earth, Asleep at The Wheel. (That is, if you haven’t already heard them. I’m sure some of you have.)

Asleep at The Wheel.

Here’s your Sunday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Route 66 by Asleep at The Wheel NEW!

I can vividly remember seeing this amazing band live at The Paradise in Boston back in the day. Man, there were people dancing on the tables they were so good. We chose this album because we felt it was a great way to introduce people to them. But they have made many albums and many live appearances over their half a century in music and, while we do have some of their stuff floating around our stream, I have a vast collection about to make it’s mark on our airwaves. Stay tuned. This is just the beginning.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Once again, we make our monthly pilgrimage to soul music mecca where you’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and many more! That’s five uninterrupted hours of soul and R & B!

This is a total day of rest for most sane people. Those of you who “get it” are staying out of the retail fray today and taking a mental health break. This is the place to be. We’re on 24/7 uninterrupted at no charge to the listening public. What other musical outlet says that? None.

Saturday Brings a Mix of Our Usual and Our Tribute to The Women of Music, March 12, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today is Saturday and, if you’ve been listening to us, you know this is the busiest programming day of the week. Today we’ve got a great mix of musical material for you.

We’ve got our soul and R & B EP for you today, and the women are well represented!

Here’s your musical line-up:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Home Plate by Bonnie Raitt FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of this great Bonnie Raitt album, and we’re starting early this morning so I must get a move on. Needless to day, tomorrow we will have a new selection.

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

This is a great multi-artist list paying homage to the great soul and R & B singers of our time. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Ronettes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Irma Thomas, Curtis Mayfield, The Staple Singers, LaVern Baker, Nina Simone, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, and more!

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt: The Ballads

This could be described as Linda Ronstadt doing what she does best but, then again, she sings so many genres so well that it’s hard to stand definitively on one single style of music. She refused, from the beginning, to be pigeonholed. You’ll love this playlist and we haven’t heard it for a while.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado, July 8, 1978 NEW!

We’ve aired The Dead’s 1985 Red Rocks show before, but this is a brand new soundboard recording of their 1978 show at Red Rocks, one of the most beautiful venues to catch a great jam band.

Come on, folks. It’s Saturday. While some of us continue to serve the entitled retail masses, you can be sitting back and enjoying all this great music for free. Yes, you heard that right. Or you read that right. We’re not going to bother you with subscriptions, credit cards, or take your personal information. I promise. No lie.

Today We’ve Got ‘A Little Bit O’Soul’ and Neil Young & Crazy Horse Own The Album Of The Week, Sunday, January 9, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s a Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge and it was declared a “day of rest” eons ago, so why not tune us in for some great music today, including the new album by Neil Young & Crazy Horse?

Neil Young & Crazy Horse still crazy good after all these years

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Barn by Neil Young & Crazy Horse NEW!

Neil Young is like the Energizer Bunny. He just keeps on going and going and going, and he never seems to lose his edge. He has partnered with several bands over his career, but Crazy Horse is the perfect fit for him, and it shows on his latest album, Barn, released on December 10, 2021. You can learn more about the album by clicking on the image of the album cover on the right sidebar. But the best way to learn about Barn is to just listen.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’Soul: Various Artists

There’s nothing like a little soul and R & B to get the blood flowing, and this is a great playlist that is also one of our most popular. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cooke, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, The Supremes, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, and then some.

Before, in between, and after our programming we continue on air under the able guidance of The Music Mermaid who will seamlessly stream our catalogue of 27,000+ songs. All of this without commercial interruption and only my melodious voice every so often for a quick station break so you know who the hell you’re listening to. Carry on, mates, and enjoy your Sunday!
