It’s One of Those Saturdays With Our AOW, The ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, Some ‘Live’ Magnolia Sisters, and LIVE DEAD! September 10, 2022

Good Morning! There is no shortage of great music lined up today, including a visit from the Magnolia Sisters, an all-female Cajun band featuring Ann Savoy.

The Magnolia Sisters pay us a visit today here in The Mermaid Lounge!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: First Take by Roberta Flack FINAL AIRING!

We start a bit early today with the final airing of our Album of The Week, First Take by Roberta Flack. This album is viewed as one of the greatest R & B albums of all time, so get on board while you can. Tomorrow we’ll have a new selection!

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

One of our favorite EP’s here in The Lounge. This is an all-encompassing tribute to soul and R & B that includes more than just Motown. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Irma Thomas and more!

7:00 p.m. The Magnolia Sisters Live at The Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival, Simi Valley, CA, May 23, 2015

This is one sweet band, led by Ann Savoy who teamed up with Linda Ronstadt as the ZoZo Sisters for the great album, Adieu False Heart. The Savoys have a long history of traditional Cajun music and it shows. This is a totally captivating musical genre, and these women have it down cold. We are currently on the hunt for more of their stuff and will be adding it to our rotation very soon.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Zoo Amphitheater, Oklahoma City, OK, September 2, 1985

We have another repeat performance here, but we haven’t aired this one since 2020, so it’ll be like brand new. Would it matter? If you’re a true Deadhead, you’re open to listening over and over and over and over…

Well, Weekenders, here we are again kicking off a two-day reprieve from the teeming masses of consuming humanity (all except for me; I’ve got one more day to go). What better way to go? Today, it’ll be musical mutiny in the workplace after the boss leaves. We’ll be flipping on #BecomeUngovernable Radio. After all, the only things I need are a computer, a free tab and a mouse. We’re on.

Saturday Brings a Mix of Our Usual and Our Tribute to The Women of Music, March 12, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today is Saturday and, if you’ve been listening to us, you know this is the busiest programming day of the week. Today we’ve got a great mix of musical material for you.

We’ve got our soul and R & B EP for you today, and the women are well represented!

Here’s your musical line-up:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Home Plate by Bonnie Raitt FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of this great Bonnie Raitt album, and we’re starting early this morning so I must get a move on. Needless to day, tomorrow we will have a new selection.

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

This is a great multi-artist list paying homage to the great soul and R & B singers of our time. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Ronettes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Irma Thomas, Curtis Mayfield, The Staple Singers, LaVern Baker, Nina Simone, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, and more!

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt: The Ballads

This could be described as Linda Ronstadt doing what she does best but, then again, she sings so many genres so well that it’s hard to stand definitively on one single style of music. She refused, from the beginning, to be pigeonholed. You’ll love this playlist and we haven’t heard it for a while.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado, July 8, 1978 NEW!

We’ve aired The Dead’s 1985 Red Rocks show before, but this is a brand new soundboard recording of their 1978 show at Red Rocks, one of the most beautiful venues to catch a great jam band.

Come on, folks. It’s Saturday. While some of us continue to serve the entitled retail masses, you can be sitting back and enjoying all this great music for free. Yes, you heard that right. Or you read that right. We’re not going to bother you with subscriptions, credit cards, or take your personal information. I promise. No lie.

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge And We Turn It Over to The Ladies of Music, and Give You a Great New Album of The Week, August 22, 2021

Happy Sunday Funday here in the lounge, where we give you our Ladies Day Out long player and a brand new Album of The Week dedicated to a rock n’ roll pioneer.

The Beatles hanging out with Fats Domino, a rock n’ roll game changer who should not ever be forgotten

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Goin’ Home, A Tribute to Fats Domino (Various Artists) NEW!

The man from New Orleans was truly a pioneer in rock n’ roll, and his contemporaries knew that. So did the bands he inspired. They got together to pay him tribute. You’ll hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (with an exceptional version of I’m Walkin’), Paul McCartney, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Los Lobos. Lucinda Williams, Art Neville, Robbie Robertson, Irma Thomas & Marcia Ball, Corinne Bailey Rae, Bonnie Raitt & John Cleary, Norah Jones, Bruce Hornsby, John Lennon and many more.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

At mid-afternoon, we turn the festivities over to the women of music. I hesitate to say rock n’ roll because so many genres are represented in this playlist. You’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Dusty Springfield, The Pretenders (Chrissie Hynde), Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Laura Nyro, Bonnie Raitt, Cilla Black, Ann Peebles, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Emmylou Harris, Maria Muldaur, Eva Cassidy, Lulu, Wendy Waldman, Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, Joan Baez, Valerie Carter, Dolly Parton, Carla Thomas, Carole King, and so many more. This is five hours of uninterrupted music from The Mermaid Lounge, where women are decidedly not second class citizens.

It’s a great day here on #BecomeUngovernable Radio and we do hope you’ll join our friends from around the world and tune us in. Today we have lots of listeners from Germany, Belgium, France, the UK, Sweden, The Faroe Islands, Israel, Italy, Canada, and the Russian Federation. That’s because they have great musical taste.
