Here we are with the fighting Davies brothers of Muswell Hill. Regardless of their reputation for feuding and pounding each other out backstage, the Kinks were a musical force that distinguished itself as one of the most influential bands of the sixties.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Creole Moon by Dr. John

We’re winding down on this week’s selection, this being our next-to-last airing. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday and, by Sunday, it will be a memory. We’ll have a brand new selection for you when you wake up, so don’t miss your chance here.

7:00 p.m. The Doors Live at The Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, June 6, 1970

The Doors were another force during the sixties, and probably would have been into the seventies. But Jim Morrison would pass away in Paris just a little over a year from this performance. The cause was listed as heart failure, although no autopsy was performed. Here’s a little bit of music trivia for you: The infamous photo of Jim Morrison’s ghost shot at his burial site in Paris was rumored to have been shot by Tom Petty. However, it should be noted that Mr. Petty never made that claim himself anywhere. It remains a mystery. But maybe they’re hanging out together talking about music in Rock n’ Roll Heaven.

Why not join your friends from around the globe today? With temperatures in the Boston area nudging 100 degrees today, I ‘d say hunkering down in air-conditioned comfort with some great music would be a great choice. And we won’t cost you a cent. It’s Tuesday Bluesday Here With Roomful of Blues, Tedeschi Trucks, and Dr. John With Our AOW, August 2, 2022

This big-sound blues swing band has been at it for more than half a century now. I remember going to these great small local venues when I was young to see these guys perform. I can’t imagine you haven’t heard of them but, if that’s the case, you should tune us in at 11:00 a.m. EST for this one.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Creole Moon by Dr. John

This is the second airing of Creole Moon and, while it is Tuesday Bluesday, we contend that this qualifies. It qualifies because Dr. John returns to his New Orleans Rhythm & BLUES roots with this effort.

7:00 p.m. Tedeschi Trucks Band Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, CO, August 30, 2012

Here we have the biggest, baddest blues-rock band on the planet with the best damned guitarist of his generation in Derek Trucks. Let’s not forget Susan Tedeschi, however. She’s the other anchor of this great band. They have long been known as a great stage band, but they established themselves as a great album band with Revelator.

Yes, folks. It’s a fine Tuesday Bluesday here. This is always a high turnout day for listeners and it’s proving to be that again. This is another repeat performance, but hasn’t been cued up since 2020. It’ll be just like new. This is one of those great music venues that I spent much of my youthful time visiting. And this is a great Dead soundboard. Don’t miss it.

Formed in Salford, England, in 1962, the Hollies were a force in music throughout the sixties and into the seventies and were most known for their distinctive three-part harmonies. But let’s not get too damned technical here: They were just a great band and one of the most influential British Invasion bands.

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at The Calderone Concert Hall, Hempstead, NY, January 29, 1975 NEW!

Linda Ronstadt was the christening act in the opening of the Calderone back in the day and Tom Rush was her opening act. This performance from 1975 was broadcast on WLIR-FM and most of the songs are from Don’t Cry Now and Heart Like a Wheel. I have seen Ronstadt perform live 39 times in my lifetime, and she never disappointed. Ever. This one is no exception.

Take a trip back in time with us as we listen to some early Beatles music, which is essentially pre-1966. This is number one of a three-part series we put together a couple of years ago. We’ll hear the other two parts tomorrow and Saturday to round things out.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hasten Down the Wind by Linda Ronstadt

We’re on the next-to-last airing of this great album. The final airing will be on Saturday. On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new selection as our Album of The Week.

Rounding out our programming today we have The Rolling Stones live from the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. These guys are like the energizer bunnies of music, and they are rock’s original “bad boys,” Aerosmith notwithstanding.

We’ve got SRV in the house to kick off the Tuesday Bluesday activities. This time around we’ve got a live performance from Carnegie Hall with his band, Double Trouble.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hasten Down The Wind by Linda Ronstadt

The only break in the blues programming is for this great album. Although, technically, Ronstadt pays homage to the blues genre with her amazing version of the great Tracy Nelson’s Down So Low. Spectacular.

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing The Blues

It’s no secret that Tom Petty had a vision of he and his bandmates growing old together sitting around on chairs singing the blues. He said that often, and his love for the blues showed on many albums and in many live performances where he would spontaneously add blues songs to a set list. The album Mojo was a tribute to the blues. And finally, if you listen to Tom Petty Radio, you’ll know he was also a DJ on the Buried Treasure show which featured the blues quite frequently. But the ultimate proof of The Heartbreakers’ passion for the blues is to listen to them sing the blues. So, here you have it.
