Welcome to a brand new month as we move into the fall-winter spectrum. We’re happy to be here with the leaves changing and little bite in the air. We’ll counter all that with some hot music. We’ve got some new additions to our routine coming, and maybe a couple of changes on deck as well. Stay tuned.

‘Color My World’ is one of those “off the bench” EP’s. We call on it to break the pattern. We’ve got it for you today.

Here’s your musical line-up for October 1:

10:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Today we start the program with nearly five hours of songs about all of the color spectrum in the title, lyrics or both. We call our EP’s ‘Open Stream With a Theme’ for a reason. This one debuted on July 30 of this year, and you will hear from Linda Ronstadt, Valerie Carter, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys, Jonathan Edwards, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, John Hiatt, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Donovan, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Elton John, Procol Harum, Electric Light Orchestra, Amy Winehouse, The Who, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Sam & Dave, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, The Hollies, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Booker T. & The MGs, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Cougar Mellencamp and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Cloud Nine by The Temptations FINAL AIRING!

This will be the swan song for Cloud Nine, where the Temptations broke the boundaries by introducing us to ‘psychedelic soul’ sound. We will continue on with our ‘psychedelic’ album presentation tomorrow with a brand new selection. Get in on this one while you can.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Saenger Center, New Orleans, LA, October 18, 1980

We haven’t aired this one since the summer of 2020, so it’s like a brand new airing. Great music from one of my favorite American music towns.

Before, in between and after it’s that great wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid at the controls. As you know, she has impeccable taste in music. Get on board today.

This is another repeat performance, but hasn’t been cued up since 2020. It’ll be just like new. This is one of those great music venues that I spent much of my youthful time visiting. And this is a great Dead soundboard. Don’t miss it.

Saturday is always a good day to take us for a spin. While some of us are still toiling away with the general public, you can be here listening to great music. All day. All you need is a computer and a new tab. No credit card required and nothing to fill out. Your money’s no good here. Here we have voluntary memberships only. What’s not to love?

Welcome to Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge! We Bring You A Little Bit O’ Soul, The Final Airing of “Old Yellow Moon” and our Ritual LIVE DEAD, June 12, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge and I leave you in good flippers with the Music Mermaid as I head off to the land of retail.

Here’s how your Saturday is shaping up:

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’Soul: Various Artists

Actually, it’s a shitload o’soul here in the lounge today. Just over five hours of the greatest soul from Motown to Memphis and back. You’ll hear Ray Charles, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Supremes, Al Green, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Fats Domino, and so many more.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Old Yellow Moon by Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell FINAL AIRING!

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. we bid a fond but very necessary farewell to this great album. Tomorrow, when you roll out of the sack, we’ll have a brand new one for you.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA NEW!

In keeping with our Saturday evening ritual, we’ve got another great airing of LIVE DEAD! Again, it’s one we’ve never aired before keeping the tradition alive. Join us and listen to the music world’s premier jam band.

Do I sound like a broken record when I get to this part of the blog post? Of course I do. But that’s the role of advertising. Everyone knows that if you repeat something enough maybe somebody will want me to shut the fuck up and listen. You have no idea what you’re missing…for free.

Today It’s The Best of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live, The All-Girl Revue #4, and Our Album of The Week, Thursday, June 10, 2021

Here we go! We’re past the hump and heading for the end of the week. We’ve got a great line-up for you guys today here in The Mermaid Lounge, starting with one of our House Bands!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Deb’s Stream: The Best of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live

We work really hard to make sure we don’t compete with Tom Petty Radio. It’s really hard not to overplay these guys, but we think we keep it in control pretty well. (We have the same problem with The Beatles and Linda Ronstadt.)

This entry is totally subjective. There are no experts. Some of my Petty fan friends and I came up with this list. These are the songs that we think are the best that they’ve done on stage, and we confess that there is one entry in here from Mudcrutch that could not be denied a place on this list. What we’ve got here is a playlist of just over two hours of the best damned live stuff we’ve ever heard from one of the most amazing live bands ever.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Old Yellow Moon by Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell

We’re winding down on this week’s album. This is the next to last airing, with the final coming sometime Saturday. Get it in while you can because there will be a brand new album come Sunday when you roll yourselves out of bed.

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume 4: Various Artists

We have five of these now, and we haven’t heard volume four for a while, so this is a good time to get it in. You’ll hear Carly Simon, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, The Shirelles, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, and more!

Blah. Blah. Blah. Here’s where we go into the hard sell, if that’s what you want to call it. We don’t make a dime on this radio station. In fact, it’s paid out of my pocket. It’s truly a labor of love. I’m sharing my personal music collection, which is quite substantial. (I’m pretty old and have been listening to and buying music forever, so it should be.) It’s what we call a labor of love that runs 24/7 and asks for nothing in return…except, of course, that you tune us in.

It’s a Scortcha Here Outside The Mermaid Lounge, and We’ve Got a Hot Line-up As Well With A New Album of The Week and Our Original Sixties Rotation, Sunday, June 6, 2021

Good Morning, Summer Lovers! It’s going to be 95 degrees outside The Lounge here today, and it’s a good thing we’ve got AC crankin’ because it’s pretty hot inside as well!

Today we feature The Original Sixties Rotation!3:.m.

Here’s your Sunday funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Old Yellow Moon by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell NEW!

This fantastic 2013 release won the Grammy Award for the Best Americana Album. It was Harris’ 13th Grammy. The album itself was her twenty-seventh studio release, and Crowell’s tenth. Although they originally met in 1974, it took them until 2012 to record an album together. I saw the tour promoting this album, and the musical chemistry between Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell was amazing.

It only took the pair two years to release a follow up album called The Travelin’ Kind, and we’ll be featuring that as a future Album of The Week.

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This was the very first playlist we ever put together back when we started, and it features The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five, Johnny Rivers, Bobbie Gentry, Little Eva, The Searchers, The Who, The Supremes, Bob Dylan, The Hollies, The Turtles, Petula Clark, Barry McGuire, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Kinks, and many more! More than five hours of uninterrupted musical nirvana!

It’s hotter than Hades out there, and I’m hunkering down here in The Lounge with some good music. We won’t cost you a damned penny. That’s no lie. We’re not going to ask you to subscribe. And we’re certainly not going to sell you anything. Why not join your friends from around the world and do the same?
