On Monday It’s Mudcrutch Madness, New Live Phil Ochs, and Our ‘Peace, Love & Understanding’ Playlist, April 14, 2025

Good morning, music lovers! Yes, it’s Monday all over again, but we’ve got some great music today that includes some brand new live Phil Ochs!

Here’s your Monday musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Mudcrutch Monday Madness!

We’re in desperate need of a Mudcrutch Monday, so this is the day. We give you their complete catalogue including the best damned live version of my favorite Mudcrutch song, Hungry No More, recorded live right here at Boston’s House of Blues on their 2016 tour!

We take a trip in the Wayback Machine for this one as we begin to amp up our collection of protest music. It seems that this is the proper time in our history as a nation for that kind of programming, and so it shall be. No better way to start than with the late, great Phil Ochs. Pay attention, It’s coming.

8:00 p.m. Peace, Love & Understanding: Various Artists

In a world where there’s little of this, there’s plenty here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got music from The Plastic Ono Band, Buffalo Springfield, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Patti Smith, War, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Curtis Mayfield, Ringo Starr, Dan Fogelberg, Norah Jones, The Derek Trucks Band, Cat Stevens, Elvis Costello, Peter, Paul & Mary and many more!

It’s a great day here. After what seems to be days of rain, the sun is back! Remember, in between our programming we give you our big, wide Open Stream. We’re never off the air, folks. The button is below.

We’re ‘Under The Influence’, Then It’s Emmylou Harris & The Desert Rose Band, and Later We Remember John Lennon On His Birthday, Wednesday, October 9, 2024

We’ve all been here, whether the ‘influence’ of choice is legal or not. 4:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris & The Desert Rose Band Live at The Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley, CA, August 3, 1986

Emmylou Harris has always managed to either pull together great bands, or team up with great bands. This time around she teams up with Chris Hillman’s Desert Rose Band for a great show.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Lennon

We close with a celebration of Lennon’s life and musical legacy as we celebrate what would have been his 83rd birthday today.

Good Morning, Musicologists! Yes, it’s the day before Thanksgiving and today we give thanks for all the great music we get to play here in The Mermaid Lounge every day. We start the day off with our ‘House’ EP full of the generation of music that inspired this station, and give you a new ‘live’ Wailers performance later.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Yes, this is the music that inspired me to start this station from the first generation of classic rock, and those who were inspired by them to carry on the tradition. You will hear Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, T-Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Genesis, Bob Dylan, Country Joe & The Fish, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Joan Baez, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison, Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

4:00 p.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers Live at Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany, June 13, 1980 NEW!

Recorded live for viewing on Rockpalast, a popular German television show. We’ve got Bob Marley and his gang of reggaeologists at the top of their form for this one. This is a brand new airing for this station and we love it.

Once again, it’s a great day to tune us in. Take a trip on the music express that won’t cost you a penny. We don’t require a subscription or a credit card. All we ask is that you open up a tab and click on the button below. Simple. No surprises. We promise.

We Close Out The Work Week With Our Multi-Artist ‘House EP’ and The Beatles’ Transformation Years on Friday, July 22, 2022

Good Morning, Beatles Lovers! Not only do we have part two of our Beatles triple play a bit later, but we’ve got our very own #BecomeUngovernable House EP to get you through the day.

We’ve got our feet firmly planted in our DNA today!

Here’s what you’re listening to on this fine day:

10:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Today we’ve got just over five hours of music that makes up this station’s DNA, including a fair amount of socially conscious music, something sorely lacking today. You’ll hear Barry McGuire, The Temptations, The Beatles, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, Genesis, T-Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, , Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Transformation Years

Undoubtedly the most creative of all times in their career which, frankly, wasn’t a very long one. Wings lasted longer than The Beatles, but nobody had the influence on music that The Beatles had in a short period of time, and perhaps no band will ever repeat that feat again. We’ve got music here from about the time of Rubber Soul to the latter part of the sixties.

Great day to be here. It’s hot as Hades out there today. And not getting any less ugly either as this promises to carry into the weekend. Stay cool with us here in The Mermaid Lounge as we play the greatest music on the planet. All free of charge and free of commercial interruption.

We’ve Got John Lennon In the Spotlight, The All-Girl Revue Too, and Our Album of The Week on Thursday, August 12, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a pretty good program today…at least we think so. It begins at 11:00 a.m. as usual. Today we open with John Lennon In the Spotlight.

Here’s today’s musical programming:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Lennon

Today we have the music of one of the best voices in rock n’ roll as a member of The Beatles, The Plastic Ono Band, and as a soloist. He also wrote one of the greatest songs of all time.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sing It! by Marcia Ball, Irma Thomas, and Tracy Nelson

We’re winding down on this week’s album, a great blues and R & B effort by three of the most accomplished musical stylists in music. On this album they sing individually and as a group. It’s a rare treat. Don’t miss it.

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue Too: Various Artists

We turn the evening over to the ladies. In this second volume you’ll hear Carlene Carter, Bobbie Gentry, Aretha Franklin, Ann Peebles, Amy Winehouse, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Christine McVie, Janis Ian, Mary Wells, Cilla Black, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Shawn Colvin, Susan Tedeschi and more!

Give us a listen, will ya? You have nothing to lose. Unlike some others, we aren’t free for just a week. We’re free every fucking day, all day. In fact, we run 24/7 uninterrupted by advertising or screaming DJ’s. What are you waiting for?
