Our New ‘Three Part Harmonies’ EP, a CSNY Spotlight, and Live Allman Brothers are On Tap, Friday, October 11, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re on the case today with a brand new EP of songs that use three-part harmonies, some live Allman Brothers Band and a CSNY Spotlight feature.

Here’s your Friday musical lineup:

We’ve got a brand new EP for you this morning of songs that employ three part harmonies. One of the things I noticed putting this together is just how many Beatle songs used it. In addition to The Beatles, you’ll hear Creedence Clearwater Revival, CSNY, The Beach Boys, Talking Heads, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Yes, The Band, Stevie Nicks, The Doobie Brothers, Queen, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Mamas & The Papas, The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Boston and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

Speaking of three part harmonies, we have a band here that used it plenty. The second best supergroup (sorry, The Traveling Wilburys are first) on the planet is a back this afternoon.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Cow Palace, Daly City, CA, December 31, 1973

We haven’t spun this one for a while, so it’s high time we did! This is a great New Year’s Even show from the Brothers.

We’re at the cusp of the weekend and we’re here to get you over the finish line with some great music. We’re on the air 24/7, we’re free and we don’t air commercial advertising. The magic button is below.

We’re On ‘The Psychedelic Express,’ Then It’s The Moody Blues and Todd Rundgren, on Thursday, September 26, 2024

Good morning, time travelers! Today we’re on ‘The Psychedelic Express’ to start the day, then it’s a Moody Blues Spotlight feature and live Todd Rundgren.

Here’s your mind-bending lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

The Psychedelic Era was a wonder to behold indeed and, once again, The Beatles pushed the envelope. In addition to them, you’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, the Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, The Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Moody Blues

The band that started out singing R & B would eventually become one of the pioneers of the progressive rock genre. Today we’ve got them In the Spotlight.

Here’s a guy who defies all kinds of logic. Rundgren is a singer, songwriter and record producer who has indulged in a wide variety of styles as a member of Nazz and Utiopia, and as a solo artist. Today we have him in a live performance from Wisconsin.

We’re now on the downslide to the weekend once again, and we’re making the most of it here in The Mermaid Lounge. Did I mention that next week we’ll be debuting a brand new Laurel Canyon Playlist series? No? Well, we are, so stick around. The magic button is below.

It’s Wayback Machine Time With JeffersonAirplane, a Ride On ‘The Psychedelic Express’ and Cream’s Farewell on Sunday, August 25, 2024

Good morning, time travelers! We’re headed back to the sixties today for some mind-bending music and two of the sixties’ biggest artists!

Here’s your musical lineup:

With Grace Slick at the helm, certainly one of the most formidable bands of the sixties opens up our programming today. We’re not so fond of the Starship, but the good old Airplane was our preferred method of travel.

1:00 p.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

We hope you enjoy your trip this afternoon with Vanilla Fudge, the Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Traffic, Cream, Procol Harum, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Tommy James & The Shondells, Blind Faith, The Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

It’s Sunday Funday With Live Bonnie Raitt, an Etta James Spotlight, and the ‘Color My World’ EP Tonight, August 18, 2024

Good morning, weekenders! We hope you’re enjoying your time off as much as we are, although my weekend is actually a Sunday-Monday combo. Today we start off with Bonnie Raitt and Etta James before we get into Open Stream with a theme this evening.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Bonnie Raitt Live at The Troubadour, Los Angeles, CA, February 15, 1972

We kick off the festivities with an iconic performer in an iconic venue. There have been so many who have passed through the doors of The Troubadour on their way to fame. Bonnie Raitt is no exception.

2:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Etta James

In my mind, Etta James is a contemporary of Aretha Franklin in so many ways. Over a six-decade career she has put her stamp on gospel, soul, jazz, R&B and rock and roll. Today she’s In The Spotlight.

5:00 p.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Tonight we give you Open Stream with a Theme as this playlist takes you late into the night. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Donovan, Booker T & The MG’s, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Lucinda Williams, Janis Joplin, John Hiatt, J.D. We close out the British programming today with The Rolling Stones live in Canada.

Yes, it’s officially Saturday and here we all are. In Boston, it’s a heavy rain day as we are visited by the remnants of Hurricane Debby. But it matters not. Because inside, it’s dry and the music is amazing. Just hit the button below.

On Finally Friday, We’ve Got Beatles Bookends and Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ EP, June 28, 2024

Good morning, Beatlemaniacs! Today we open and close with something from The Fab Four, and we have the sixties smack dab in the middle.

Here’s your Finally Friday lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Beatles: The Complete Rooftop Concert, January 30, 1969

An unplanned, impromptu concert on the the roof of Apple’s Saville Row building made everyone’s lunch hour better back in 1969. It was The Beatles’ very last live performance together as a band. I have to tell you that assembling a complete replication of this event is difficult, at best. Missing from this performance is their impromptu take on God Save the Queen, which was in the film, but is difficult to find out there. However, we will continue on and attempt to assemble the most complete representation we can find. In the meantime, there’s this, which is more complete than the one we’ve aired in the past.

2:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

Today, we’ve got the second volume of our favorite sixties songs with The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimmy Cliff, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, Marvin Gaye, The Doors, The Box Tops, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and more!

9:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Singles Collection

We close out the evening with another Beatles gem: Every single released worldwide, including all the B-sides.

Before, in between and after we’ve got our big, wide Open Stream of 27,000 files and growing daily! We’re on 24/7, we’re totally free and we run no commercial advertising. What’s not to love?
