We’ve Got A Totally Wilbury Wednesday Surrounded By Wide Open Stream, December 15, 2021

Good Morning, my musical friends! We here in The Mermaid Lounge have decided that this is a pretty good day for a Totally Wilbury Wednesday, and so it shall be.

Today belongs to the greatest supergroup ever!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

Every poll ever taken in the past twenty years that I’ve seen has resulted in this band being remembered as the greatest supergroup of all time. And I fully concur. Today we’ve got a gem for you with outtakes, rough takes, alternative versions, final versions and special sessions. It’s a look inside the music making of The Traveling Wilburys. For those who have not yet immersed themselves in this band, you can explore the website right here. You can also watch this short documentary from George Harrison here. It’s all great fun, I assure you.

3:00 p.m. The Wilbury Trifecta Afternoon!

We get back to streaming for the rest of the day, but starting mid-afternoon we kick off trifectas by members of the band (although not Wilbury music). Do you get that? Or did I confuse you?

3:00 p.m. Bob Dylan (Lucky Wilbury)

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty (Charlie T. Wilbury Junior)

5:00 p.m. George Harrison (Nelson Wilbury)

6:00 p.m. Jeff Lynne (Otis Wilbury)

7:00 p.m. Roy Orbison (Lefty Wilbury)

Did you know that they changed their names again for Volume 3? And by the way, there was never a Volume 2. Just sayin’

This is a great day to make us your music source. Trust me. We’re totally free 24/7. We run no advertising. We don’t require a credit card or personal information. What else could you possibly want but a free radio station that spends it’s time pumping out music?

As We Hit Mid-Week, The Women of Music are Fully in Control, Wednesday, December 1, 2021

Gooooood Morning, Musicologists! We are hitting mid-week with the Women taking the helm. It starts out with a bang, we go back to our wide Open Stream, then in the afternoon we begin several hours of Trifectas!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Complete Trio Sessions with Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris

Yes, folks, just over two hours of brilliance from the only female supergroup (Trio) on the planet. You get outtakes, alternative versions, and never-before-heard material as three of the most spectacular voices in music banded and bonded for two of the greatest albums on the planet.

Afternoon Trifectas

Later in the afternoon, we kick off some all-girl Trifectas!

4:00 p.m. Janis Joplin (with and without Big Brother & The Holding Company)

5:00 p.m. Lucinda Williams

6:00 p.m. The Supremes

7:00 p.m. Alison Krauss

8:00 p.m. Norah Jones

9:00 p.m. Joan Baez

Great day to tune us in, folks. You not only get to hear a lot of wide Open Stream today, but you get to hear a ton of great music from the women, something we believe no other station does. And best of all, no commercials and no charge.

Friday. It’s Finally Here and We Have Some Toots & The Maytals, Trifectas In The Afternoon, and The Final Segment on Our Beatles Feature Later, November 12, 2021

Good Morning, Reggae-ologists! We’re here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re breaking out some great Reggae today to start off our musical programming. We’ve also got a series of new Trifectas debuting this afternoon!

We’ve got some Toots & The Maytals for you this morning!

Here’s Friday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: Toots & The Maytals

The Maytals were formed in the early 60s in Jamaica, and became one of the best known ska and rocksteady vocal groups, playing a key role in popularizing the Reggae sound. We put them here In the Spotlight today.

Trifecta Afternoon NEW!

We’ve got a set of four brand new Trifectas to help get you through the afternoon:

2:00 p.m. Fats Domino

3:00 p.m. Badfinger

4:00 p.m. Paul Revere & The Raiders

5:00 p.m. Jimi Hendrix

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Endgame

You know, I look forward to Peter Jackson’s Beatle documentary coming up this month. Did the Beatles fight? They did. All bands fight. They’re like a family. But if the Beatles hated each other they way it was played up in the media, they would not have been able to remain as great as they were to the bitter end. Later on, they worked out their issues. It was real life under a media microscope.

Tune us in, folks. We’re here for you 24/7 completely free-of-charge every single day. We don’t ask for your personal info or a credit card, and we do not play commercials. Ever.

At Midweek, It’s Dan Fogelberg In the Spotlight, An Afternoon Trifecta-Fest, and The Beatles This Evening, Wednesday, November 10, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! Here we are again at midweek. It’s Truck Day at the old slave shack, but I certainly have you covered musically in my absence. The Music Mermaid will see that everything is carried out to the letter.

The Beatles touched down in the U.S. on February 7, 1964, my tenth birthday. It changed everything.

Here’s your mid-week programming:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Dan Fogelberg

This guy’s name doesn’t always roll off people’s tongue, but it should. Fogelberg was a singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist who, for me, provided an oasis in the dry desert of the eighties music scene (absolutely not my favorite generation of music), along with a few others, most notably Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. People can debate an artist’s “best” album all day and night because that decision is subjective and personal. For me Souvenirs was not only his best album, but one of the best albums ever put on vinyl.

Afternoon Trifectas

Starting mid-afternoon, we’ll open each hour with three-in-a-row from one artist.

3:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris

4:00 p.m. Sam Cooke

5:00 p.m. Talking Heads

6:00 p.m. Van Morrison

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Early Years

The Beatles touched ground here on my tenth birthday. Up until that point, I had been listening to my sisters’ music pretty regularly. When the Beatles landed, it changed everything for me. In fact, it changed everything in the house because my sisters became fans pretty quickly as well. This is the other half of our House Band duo, and over the next few days we’ll be playing their stuff in chronological order.

Come on, people. Join your friends. Wednesday always seems to be fairly active early in the morning: Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Russian Federation, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and the UK are on so far. These people know good music when they hear it.

Happy Birthday, Tom Petty! We’re Sandwiched In PettyLand Today Around All That Great Stream, Wednesday, October 20, 2021

We celebrate Tom Petty’s life and musical contributions today on what would be his 71st birthday. We’re locked in on The Traveling Wilburys today (which also makes it a Wilbury Wednesday) and a great live stint in Lucca, Italy.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Complete Wilbury Sessions: Volume 1 & 3

The complete Wilbury’s treatment with outtakes, alternative versions, demos, rough cuts, special sessions, never-before-heard songs. Just over two hours of Wilbury musical magic.

Not only is this pertinent to Petty’s birthday, but the very first Traveling Wilburys album (Volume 1) was released 33 years ago this week, on October 18, 1988.

5:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at the Lucca Summer Festival, Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

A great live performance by The Heartbreakers here that you won’t want to miss.

All Day Tom Petty Trifectas!

We’re not putting up a schedule on these. Suffice it to say that they’ll be running at the top of several hours of the day, all day and into the evening. You’ll just have to tune us in to listen in.

Great day to join our family of listeners around the globe as we celebrate the life and musical contributions of one of the most talented, humble and gracious artists ever to grace the planet. You will not regret it.

Midweek Gives Us ZZ Top In the Spotlight, The All-Girl Revue, and Some Afternoon Trifectas, Wednesday, October 6, 2021

We’re at midweek once again here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’ve got some great music for you today, including our very first All-Girl Revue.

Today we put ZZ Top In the Spotlight to kick things off

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of ZZ Top

ZZ Top was started in Houston, Texas in 1969. For 51 years the trio of Dusty Hill (vocals, bass), Billy Gibbons (vocalist, guitarist), and Frank Beard (drums) made some of the best rock music around. Oddly enough, Frank Beard was the only member in the band without an outrageous beard. Today, we put them In the Spotlight.

Wednesday Afternoon Trifectas

This afternoon we’ve got wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid and some great Trifectas:

3:00 p.m. Cannned Heat

4:00 p.m. The Kinks

5:00 p.m. The Rolling Stones

6:00 p.m. The Traveling Wilburys

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume One: Various Artists

This is the very first collection of women’s music we ever put together when we started. We thought this would be a great day to break it out of the vault. You’ll hear Ann Peebles, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Petula Clark, Carly Simon, Patti Smith, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Laura Nyro, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Irma Thomas, and more.

Tune us in, folks. We’ve got listeners from Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, The Faroe Islands, Canada, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France, Costa Rica, and a few from the good old United States tuning in today. All you have to do is open a tab and click on the link below:

It’s Friday and We’re ‘Under The Influence’ of Some New Trifectas, and We Put CSNY In the Spotlight Later, September 24, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! For most of us it’s the week’s end…but I’ve got one more day. But it matters not, people. The music is great today. You’ll see what I mean.

The Traveling Wilburys remain the greatest supergroup of all time for us, but these guys are right behind them.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Booze. Drugs. Legal or illegal. Whatever your poison. We’ve pretty much all been under the influence at one time or another. And it has always provided a topic for the music industry. You’ll hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Doors, Donovan, Linda Ronstadt, The Temptations, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Neil Young, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Commander Cody & The Lost Planet Airmen, Glenn Frey, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and more.

Afternoon Music Trifecta Afternoon NEW!

We continue to build our library of trifectas and premier several new ones today.

3:00 p.m. Three Dog Night

4:00 p.m. Carole King

5:00 p.m. Van Morrison

6:00 p.m. Sam Cooke

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

The Traveling Wilburys reign supreme as the best supergroup of all time. But these guys were right behind them. Yes, they should be called Crosby, Stills, Nash & (Sometimes) Young, but we think they were at their best with Young in the fold.

Again I say, it’s a great day to tune us in. It always is. So, what the hell are you waiting for anyway? We’re 24/7. We’re free. We do not run any advertising. We do not require a subscription. And we don’t ask for your personal information.
