The Last Day of the Month Brings Our Extended Travelin’ Playlist, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and Live Dead Later, Saturday, July 31, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists and road warriors everywhere. Today we bring you our extended, multi-artist Travelin’ Fever playlist, the final airing of Chrissie Hynde’s great new album, and Live Dead later this evening.

Today we have our four-hour, multi-artist Travelin’ Fever playlist.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Deb’s Stream: Travelin’ Fever, Various Artists

The road is always a popular music topic, and this extended playlist provides ample evidence of that. You’ll hear more than four hours of uninterrupted music from The Doors, The Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, Tom Rush, The Box Tops, Canned Heat, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, J.J. Cale, Del Shannon, Janis Joplin, Linda Ronstadt, Guy Clark, Asleep At The Wheel, The Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many others.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Standing In The Doorway by Chrissie Hynde FINAL AIRING!

If you haven’t heard this masterpiece yet, this is your last chance to hear it here. Chrissie Hynde delivers what we consider to be the album of the year with her covers of lesser-known, underappreciated Bob Dylan songs. She did this during lockdown using cell phone technology. Not to be missed.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Selland Arena, Fresno, CA, July 19, 1974 NEW!

Another great live performance from The Dead, the world’s ultimate jam band! This one is live from the Selland Arena in Fresno.

This would be an excellent day to tune us in. In fact, they all are. We’ve got Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, France, the UK, Spain, Portugal and points beyond all on this morning. Why don’t you join them?

We opened this playlist up to suggestions a while ago, but hadn’t gotten to it until just recently. The emails were out of control, but the suggestions were so great that we made ourselves a great multi-artist playlist all about water. You’ll hear The Beatles, Deep Purple, Donovan. Led Zeppelin, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Foo Fighters, Loggins & Messina, Al Green, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Elton John, and more!

In fact, you can check out this great new playlist under the ‘Playlist’ tab of this blog before listening. Just go to the tab and scroll to the bottom.

7:00 p.m. That Sweet Soul Sound: Various Artists

This is one of our mainstays here in The Mermaid Lounge. Another multi-artist playlist that’s been around for a while, it features Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Fats Domino, Jackie Wilson, The Four Tops, Curtis Mayfield, Etta James, Bill Withers, The Temptations, Ann Peebles, and more!

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got our usual busy Saturday today, but we’re doubling up on extended plays this month due to the Fillmore Fest at the beginning. Nevertheless, it’s a great day of music.

Later tonight, it’s The Dead live at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa!

Here’s today’s line-up (please note times are a bit different today):

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: CHOBA B CCCP by Paul McCartney FINAL AIRING!

Today we’ve got the final airing of this great album by McCartney. Tomorrow when you tune us in, we’ll have another great new selection.

It’s Another Monday and We’ve Got The Lovin’ Spoonful In The Spotlight, Joni Mitchell Live at Club 47, and Drivin’ Songs Later, July 19, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s another Moan-Day here in The Mermaid Lounge and we hope to make it a better day for you with some great programming and a lot of wide Open Stream.

The Lovin’ Spoonful was a great little Laurel Canyon band, and today we put them In the Spotlight!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Lovin’ Spoonful

From the moment I heard Summer In The City, I knew I was going to love this band from start to finish. These guys made some great music in their day under the direction of John Sebastian. We play all sixties music at our retail establishment. It’s what our customers like best. Every time one of their songs comes on, I find myself saying “I fucking love this song.”

3:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at Club 47, Cambridge, Massachusetts, January 10, 1968

Speaking of Laurel Canyon veterans, here’s another one. This concert is from a favorite spot in my home town, Club 47. Joni Mitchell wasn’t the only one to play this venue in its day. Linda Ronstadt used to play here, and then would visit Elsie’s Roast Beef. This later became Passim’s Coffee House, the venue where I discovered Guy Clark. You’ll like this one. It was a great performance.

7:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: Drivin’ Songs, Various Artists

This is a fun little playlist: Two hours of songs that either talk about traveling, driving…or are just great songs to drive along with. Watch out, though. Some of them give you lead foot.

Here we are on another Monday. It’s usually a tough day to get yourself going after the weekend, so good music can certainly go a long way toward helping the process. Give us a shot. You won’t regret it.

It’s Saturday Here in The Mermaid Lounge and We’ve Got (A Little Bit O’) Soul, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and LIVE DEAD Later, July 17, 2021

It’s another Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re on full throttle soul today. We have our extended play list going, along with the final airing of Exit Wounds by The Wallflowers, and LIVE DEAD late this evening.

Here’s Saturday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Today we are playing a bit of catch-up after our Fillmore Fiesta earlier in the month, so we give you our Little Bit O’ Soul extended playlist. This gem features The Temptations, The Ronettes, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Ruffin, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Carla Thomas, Fontella Bass, Slim Harpo, Ben E. King, Nina Simone, Jackie Wilson, The Ad Libs, Booker T & The MGs, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and many more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Exit Wounds by The Wallflowers FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of our latest Album of The Week, Exit Wounds by Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers, their first new album in a decade. Tomorrow we’ll feature a brand new album for the upcoming week.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! Rocking the Cradle: The Grateful Dead Live in Egypt, Recorded Live September 15 & 16, 1978 NEW!

Live Grateful Dead recorded at the Giza pyramid complex. Unlike some of the live performances you are treated to, this is actually not a soundboard recording but one that was mixed down and released in 2008, on the 30th anniversary of the event. Enjoy.

Saturdays are always a great day to tune us in. We’re usually chock full of great programming in addition to our full catalogue of live stream. And best of all, we’re free 24/7 every day of every week.

We Kick Off Another Work Week With Tom Petty’s Finest and Volume Two of All About Blue, Monday, July 12, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We begin another work week in fine style with songs from our ‘House Band’ and more songs with blue in the title and lyrics.

Today we give you Tom Petty’s 50 best songs.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Deb’s Stream: Tom Petty’s Top 50 Songs

This is a very subjective list, I grant you. It was built from some listener input as well as my own personal choices. I could today make a brand new list and have it be entirely different. These are songs he made with his Heartbreaker bandmates, with Mudcrutch, with The Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist.

If you feel inspired to weigh in with your favorites, feel free to write me at become.ungovernable.radio@gmail.com.

7:00 p.m. All About Blue Too

A few days ago, we ran Volume One of this multi-artist playlist so we thought it would be a good evening to run the second volume. You will hear The Rolling Stones,, Robert Johnson, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Laura Nyro, Phoebe Snow, Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, Guy Clark, The Smithereens, The Beatles, Robert Johnson, Canned Heat, Emmylou Harris and more.

What could be better than great music on a Monday? Well, for one thing, music that’s totally free with no monthly subscription charges, no commercial interruptions, no downtime (we run 24/7), and no chatty DJ’s to waste your time? That’s us.

It’s Sunday and The Wallflowers Own Our Album of The Week, While Our Extended Play Sixties Set List Starts This Afternoon, July 11, 2021

Good Morning, Gang! Here we are again on another Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge. We had a bit of an interruption in the flow with Fillmore Fest earlier in the month, but we’re back on track now!

The Wallflowers are back with their first new album in ten years and its our Album of The Week!

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Exit Wounds by The Wallflowers NEW!

This guy is my personal songwriting favorite in the post-Petty era. Jakob Dylan recently gave an interview, in fact, in which he said that his friend Tom Petty loomed large over this album, his first in ten years with The Wallflowers. We are certainly glad they are back.

3:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

The music that inspired me to start this radio station is back for another uninterrupted five-hour stint today. We had a minor delay to pay honor to The Fillmore, but we are back on track now. This is the music that covers the mid-to-late sixties with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Janis Joplin (with and without Big Brother), The Kinks, The Grateful Dead, The Chambers Brothers, Melanie, The Temptations, The Stone Poneys (featuring Linda Ronstadt), The Band, Bob Dylan, The Four Tops, Cream, Derek & The Dominos, Scott McKenzie, The Mamas & The Papas, and many, many others.

Get off to an early start. We already have people listening in from the UK, France, Denmark, the Russian Federation, The Faroe Islands (look them up; it’s real), Switzerland, Germany, and our home base in the U.S. All are welcome. We’re free. There’s no commercial interruption, and no credit card required. All you need is a computer tab.

We’ve Got Lots of Open Stream Today Punctuated by Two Guitar Gods and The Ladies of Rock Later, Friday, July 9, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s Friday here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re giving you lots of open stream today as we prepare for our usual hectic Saturday programming.

Later on today, The Ladies are in charge.

Here’s your line-up:

12:00 p.m. Duane Allman & Eric Clapton: Studio Jams 1-6

Here we have just over an hour of music from two of the best in the business, just hanging out in the studio together blowing the doors off the place. Enjoy.

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue Volume 3: Various Artists

We haven’t heard one of these for a while. The time is absolutely right. In this volume, you’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Phoebe Snow, Norah Jones, Carly Simon, Carole King, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Melissa Etheridge, Valerie Carter, Wendy Waldman, Susan Tedeschi, Aretha Franklin, Melanie, and many more!

In between all this stuff, you’ll hear wide Open Stream today. The Music Mermaid can pick up anything she likes when we’re on that setting. She may even be inclined to pick up a playlist or two. You never know, and I am out of control when she’s in charge. That’s how it works here.

Dr. John In the Spotlight, Our ‘All About Blue’ Playlist, and our Album of The Week Grace The Airwaves, Thursday, July 8, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! Here we are on a cloudy Thursday awaiting the blowback from tropical storm Elsa. But in the meantime, we’ve got some great programming going on.

Dr. John, New Orleans’ Nite Tripper, is In the Spotlight today!

Here’s your line-up:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Dr. John

Malcolm John Rebennack, Jr., also affectionately known as Dr. John, spent sixty years in the music business, both as a solo artist and a well-respected studio musician. Today, he’s in our spotlight.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Angel Dream by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty’s legendary music status lives on beyond his passing, thanks to the genius of Ryan Ulyate, his bandmates, his daughters and his wife. This reimagination of the She’s The One soundtrack on its 25th anniversary includes four never-before-released songs. Don’t miss it.

7:00 p.m. All About Blue: Various Artists

Another of our fun playlists that we haven’t heard for a bit includes the word ‘blue’ in the title or the lyrics (or both). You’ll hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Allman Brothers Band, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, The Beatles, Fats Domino, Mudcrutch, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and more!

Tune us in, people. You will not regret it. We are free and ask for no credit card or personal information. We do not accept advertising. With the exception of an occasional station I.D., the music is uninterrupted. What are you waiting for?

The Doors Live at Cobo Arena, We Celebrate Ringo’s 81st Birthday, and Launch Our New ‘Under the Sun & Moon’ Playlist, Wednesday, July 7, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists everywhere! Today we have some great live Doors, and celebrate Ringo’s 81st birthday. Later on, we launch our brand new playlist.

We begin the day with The Doors live at Cobo Arena in Detroit.

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Doors Live at Cobo Arena, Detroit, Michigan, May 8, 1970

Just about a year before his untimely death, Jim Morrison and the Doors played the Cobo Arena in Detroit. We have it for you today.

3:00 p.m. DJ’s Choice: My Favorite Ringo Starr Music

We celebrate Ringo’s 81st birthday today by weighing in on my favorite Ringo Starr music as a Beatle, as a solo artist, and as a drummer. I hear a lot of bullshit disparaging remarks out there about Ringo’s drumming. Talk is cheap. His peers in the drumming world don’t share that attitude. In fact, Ringo is one of the most respected drummers on the planet, and The Beatles went to great lengths to lure him away from Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

7:00 p.m. Under The Sun & Moon: Various Artists NEW!

We love putting together these playlists here in The Mermaid Lounge. Today’s is a pile of songs with the sun and the moon mentioned either in the title or the lyrics (and sometimes both). You’ll hear The Beatles, Tom Rush, Little Feat, Joni Mitchell, The Wallflowers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison, The Traveling Wilburys, Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldaur, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Kinks, and many more!

The song list will be up under the Playlist tab before airing.

Tune us in, folks. Join your friends around the world by jumping on board the magic Mermaid Music bus. You don’t need no stinking credit card. All you need is a free computer tab. Seriously.
