Saturday Brings Linda Ronstadt, Our ‘Are You ReadyFor the Country’ EP, and John Fogerty as our Singer-Songwriter, October 21, 2023

Welcome, weekenders! It’s Saturday in The Lounge and we kick stuff off today with a final airing of our AOW, followed by our big, bad country EP and John Fogerty later.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Duets by Linda Ronstadt FINAL AIRING!

Our official Queen of All Music bids us a fond farewell today as she and her friends serenade us for one more time. But not to worry, all of our AOWs are included in our standard rotation, so you’ll hear all of these songs again.

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

This is our big, bad country EP with both traditional country musicians and the pioneers of country-rock. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and more!

As the heart and soul of Creedence Clearwater Revival, this guy has written some of the most incredible songs of the sixties and seventies, including Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son, and so many more. He also forged a successful solo career after the band broke up, writing Centerfield and The Old Man Down The Road. He is this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

Keeping It Simple Today With Our ‘Are You Ready for the Country’ Multi-Artist EP and The (Young) Rascals’ AOW Later, July 16, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We are on a ‘keep it simple’ Sunday routine today with some great country and country-rock (no bad pop bands with fiddles, we promise) and our Album of The Week from The Young Rascals.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

From real country music to the creators of the country-rock sound. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of the Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Groovin’ by The Young Rascals NEW!

No doubt, The Rascals are one of our favorite bands; a great rock band that could really make real R&B music. They just kept churning out the hits between 1964 and 1969. You couldn’t keep them off the charts, and they fully deserved to be there. Groovin’ was their third studio album, released on July 31, 1967. It went to #5 on the Billboard Top LP chart, #7 on the R&B chart, and #2 in Canada. Eight of the songs were released as singles, with the title track reaching #1 in the U.S. This would be the final album where they would use the ‘Young’ moniker. Moving on, they would explore psychedelia as did so many bands of this generation. They will be back here again with another AOW.

Kick off your shoes. Take your socks off. Pour yourself your favorite beverage. And get into the music. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge every day, not just when we have a “subscription” drive. We don’t require a subscription or a credit card. So there.

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, the Great J. J. Cale, and Some ‘Live’ Allman Brothers Later, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Good morning, music lovers. We’ve got our midweek mojo going with some great programming today, including our multi-artist ‘Ode to Morning’ EP!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode to Morning: Various Artists

Today it’s all about the beauty of the early morning hours with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of J. J. Cale

Mr. Cale takes his second turn as this week’s singer-songwriter. Not to be missed.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Atlanta International Pop Festival, Middle Georgia Raceway, Byron, GA, July 3 & 5, 1970

The brothers aren’t really “pop” singers but this wasn’t really a “pop” festival either. That was a popular catch word for popular music, not a specific reference to a music genre. But I digress. What could be better than closing out the day with some great blues-rock from the Allman Brothers Band?

We’re on 24/7, not just when we’re in program mode. We have international listeners who are on all night long. If you wake up and you can’t sleep, tune us in. All you need is the button below. We’re guaranteed to make your life better.

We’re Heading for the Weekend With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Our AOW, and ‘Live’ Linda Ronstadt Later, Thursday, January 19, 2023

Good morning, Musicologists! We’ve climbed the hill and are on the downslide to the weekend at last! We’ve got a great lineup of music coming your way today, as we do every day! Read on for details!

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

Today we pay respects to country music with both traditional country stars and the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen back in Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of the Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: A Night of Blistering Blues by B. B. King and Friends

This great live album is almost in the record books as B. B. King is joined on stage by Gladys Knight, Etta James, Chaka Khan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and more! Don’t miss it. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday.

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at Stadehalle, Offenbach, Germany, November 16, 1976

Linda Ronstadt, a patron saint of The Mermaid Lounge, live in Germany on her Hasten Down The Wind tour in a performance recorded for airing on the Rockpalast show.

Get your musical shit together and tune us in, people. Join your friends from around the globe who have realized just how easy it is to get good music with no strings attached. We do not require a subscription, a credit card or any personal information at all. We’re on 24/7 and we accept no commercial advertising. Tune us in.

Saturday Brings the ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, Volume Three of The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Adventure, and Dan Fogelberg as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter as the Holidays Approach, December 17, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists across the globe! Hope you’re all doing well as we tee it up in The Mermaid Lounge this morning. We’ve got a pretty full slate peppering our great wide Open Stream (a little Tom Petty imagery there).

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re talking real country here. And we’re also talking about the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen from the cross-fertilization center of the world: Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA 1997, Volume Three NEW!

The third and final installment as we roll out the brand new Heartbreakers’ compendium of their legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band. They threw away the script and kicked ass, and every one of them felt it was the most creative opportunity the band had, and the highlight of their time together. For the first time ever, there are more cover songs on a Heartbreakers album than original compositions. That was by design as they chose to pay homage to those artists who inspired them. They are, in our humble opinion, the best cover band on the planet.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg NEW!

It’s time to flip the switch to a new featured singer-songwriter, and Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underappreciated. Except here in The Mermaid Lounge, where we made him one of the very first artists to have a ‘Spotlight.’ Today he starts a week in the spotlight as our featured singer-songwriter.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat FINAL AIRING!

Tonight we bit a fond farewell to one of our favorite albums and bands as we close out this week’s featured album. We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new selection.

Saturday is always a bit of a busy day here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we never have more programming than open stream in a 24-hour cycle. We also never run commercial advertising or emply overly-talkative DJ’s. We just play music. Free of charge 24/7. No lie. No surprises. No credit card. No personal information. Ever.

On Saturday We’ve Got Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, The Final Airing of “Rumors” and The First Airing of Warren Zevon as This Week’s Singer-Songwriter, December 10, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! As the sun comes up in The Mermaid Lounge, we welcome you aboard the musical train for Saturday, for some, the first day of the weekend! My first day is tomorrow, but The Music Mermaid is here for you!

Here’s your lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve got a multi-artist EP paying homage to the night, and we’ve got one for the morning. This morning you will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac FINAL AIRING!

We bid a fond farewell to Rumors this afternoon, one of the greatest pop-rock albums ever made and certainly one that highlighted Christine McVie’s many talents. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new one for you. Stay tuned.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Warren Zevon NEW!

I remember my first time seeing Warren Zevon live. It was at the Berkelee Performance Center in Boston, and he was two hours late for the show after making us suffer through 52 versions of Year of The Cat courtesy of Al Stewart, the opening act. We were foul of mood. That was, until Zevon got on stage and blew us all away. He was an extraordinary songwriter who broke onto the scene when someone named Linda Ronstadt started singing his songs. And Zevon had a great voice to boot. He may have been a self destructive character, but nobody can ever deny the man’s talents.

Give us a listen. We’re totally free of charge, so you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. Your money is no good here in The Mermaid Lounge where we broadcast from. Not only do we not ask for a credit card; we also don’t ask you any personal information. We’ve got nothing for sale. It’s free. 24/7. No strings. No shit.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got a Great New Album of The Week and Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, August 14, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! I’m excited as hell about our Album of The Week. It’s an unusual find, but I cannot wait. We also have a lot of that Laurel Canyon country-rock mixed in with our great traditional country EP today.

Here’s your musical lineup for the day:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Songs for Judy by Neil Young NEW!

This is not your typical album, and it’s an exciting choice for our Album of The Week. If you don’t know about the album, you may be assuming it’s a bunch of “period” type songs from Judy Garland as sung by Neil Young. But you’d be wrong. It’s actually a compilation of live acoustic set songs by Neil Young while on his 1976 tour with Crazy Horse. This album comprises all 22 songs that he sung on that tour as part of an opening live acoustic set. Where does Judy Garland come in to all of this? The album title comes from Young’s own story about hallucinating one night and seeing Judy Garland sitting in the orchestra pit. This album is Volume 7 in the Performance Series of The Neil Young Archives.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

You’ll be hearing more Neil Young here because this EP is literally named after one of his songs! In addition to Neil Young, you will hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, The Desert Rose Band, John Prine and more! In fact, just about five hours of uninterrupted country and country rock.

It is, without a doubt, a great day to tune us in. We’ve got a great AOW and a great EP going today. The rest of the 24-hour, non-stop cycle is occupied by our great wide Open Stream under the control of the venerable Music Mermaid. Did I mention that we’re totally free, no strings, no surprises? Ever.

We are at Midweek With Our ‘Are You Ready For the Country’ EP and New ‘Live’ Emmylou Harris Later, Wednesday, June 15, 2022

Good Morning to our country and country-rock aficionados this morning! We’ve got a great lineup today interspersed within all that great wide Open Stream!

We’ve got some early ‘live’ Emmylou later from My Father’s Place!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

From authentic country to the fusion of rock and country that took place at Laurel Canyon, we’ve got a great musical trip for you take today with Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glenn Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, The Desert Rose, John Prine, Tom Rush, and more!

7:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris Live at My Father’s Place, Roslyn, New York, September 14, 1976 NEW!

Some great early Emmylou Harris here with The Hot Band, one of the greatest bands ever to stand on stage with her. It’s also at a legendary venue, My Father’s Place in New York. There are a lot of songs that came off the great Elite Hotel album that put her on the map, but she had just also released a new gem in Luxury Liner, so that’s represented here as well. She is, without a doubt, a Mermaid Lounge favorite. Live broadcast on WLIR-FM.

Excellent day to tune us in, people. We’ve got some great programming and, as always, our wide Open Stream of 27,000+ songs. It doesn’t get much better than that, although we are working on it. And, oh yeah, did I mention we’re totally, 100%, no-strings-attached free? That’s a bonus.

We’re at Midweek With Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP and Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Shawn Colvin, and Others Live at Red Rocks, Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We are at midweek, and we’ve got some great music for you today starting with our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP.

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country? Various Artists

Well, are you? Because we’ve got the masters of (real) country and country-rock right here for you. Definitely no bad pop bands with fiddles. Only the real thing. You’ll hear Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Pure Prairie League, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Asleep at The Wheel, Gram Parsons, The Byrds, Pure Prairie League, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt. Steve Earle & The Dukes, Mudcrutch, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Band, Bob Dylan, and more!

7:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby, and David Lindley Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO, September 12, 1999

This was one hell of a show. I did not attend the Red Rocks event, but I did see the tour when it passed through Massachusetts. It was an amazing event seeing all these great musicians and singers together on one stage with no egos in the way. Tune it in.

Here we are again, literally begging you to tune in. And we’re not doing it for the money because we don’t actually make any money on this little endeavor. It’s a labor of musical love that I share my personal music collection with all of you. Get it while it’s hot, free, and free of commercial interruption.

We’ve Hit Our Midweek Stride With Our ‘Are You Ready For the Country’ EP, and Tom Rush In The Spotlight, Wednesday, February 16, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Yes, we’re at midweek. It’s all downhill from here, as they say. We’ve got a great line up today as we wish Tom Rush a happy belated 80th birthday, and turn on the country spigot.

Real country. And country-rock. But no bad pop bands with fiddles here.

Here’s the midweek line-up:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country: Various Artists

Tom Petty was a great musicologist. He once referred to the glut of bad country bands as ‘bad pop bands with fiddles.’ None of that shit here today as we give you a great EP of uninterrupted music. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep At The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Flying Burrito Brothers and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Tom Rush

Tom Rush turned 80 years young on February 8th and we’re finally wishing him a happy belated birthday. I saw him at his birthday bash in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (the place of his birth) when he turned 79 last year, and he was fantastic. Today, we put Tom Rush, the artist often credited with heralding in the era of the singer-songwriter, In the Spotlight.

Get on it, folks. This is the toughest day of the week, and we’ll help you get through it with some great music. No charge for the service. Honest. We’re not kidding.
