It’s a neat little guessing game you can play with The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

Love this band. Undoubtedly the best band of its genre, in our humble opinion. Saw them live several times, and they never disappointed. Today we’ve got them In the Spotlight.

8:00 p.m. The Guess Who Live at The Ambassador Theater, St. Louis, MO, May 6, 1974

And another great band, this one from Canada. Never got to see this band live, but would have loved to. We’ve got them here tonight live and we are on the hunt for even more live Guess Who.

It’s Sunday and it’s a day of rest, so why not kick your heels off and tune us in. We’re here 24/7; not just when we have scheduled programming. We circulate some of best damned music on the planet. See for yourself.

It’s Midweek With Our ‘What’s In A Name’ EP, The Big O, and The Allman Brothers Band, Wednesday, March 13, 2024

Good morning, music lovers. Still battling COVID, but definitely on the mend and feeling better. Sorry I’m running late, but trying to get a bit more sleep than usual.

Here’s your midweek music:

9:00 a.m. What’s In A Name: Various Artists

We love name droppers and we’ve got plenty here including Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Otis Redding

The Big O was introduced to the world at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Just months later he would be killed in a plane crash, only three days after recording “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay.” It became the first posthumous No. 1 single in US chart history and sold over four million copies worldwide. We remember him today.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Fillmore East, New York, NY, March 12-13, 1971

We close out the programming tonight with a great performance by the brothers at the east coast venue of The Fillmore.

Get on board the music train, folks. We’re on 24/7, not just when we have programming scheduled, and we’re totally free of charge. No commercial advertising either because we don’t make a profit. Ever.

It’s Simply Sunday With Me, The Mermaid, Bob Dylan’s AOW and Our ‘What’s In a Name’ EP, February 4, 2024

It’s the beginning of two days of unemployed bliss here in The Mermaid Lounge and we keep it simple on Sundays with light programming and plenty of wide Open Stream.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

Another album turning fifty years old. This album was released on January 17, 1974 and reunited Dylan with his longtime collaborators, The Band (one of the finest in music history). Dylan’s fourteenth release, with a successful tour and plenty of PR, went to number one on the Billboard charts, a first for him. Planet Waves is our album of the week.

3:00 p.m.  What’s In a Name: Various Artists

Janis Joplin sings about Bobby McGee, Linda Ronstadt sings about Justine, Steve Winwood sings about Valerie (about the late, great Valerie Carter), Bobbie Gentry sings the tale of Billie Joe McAllister who jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge, The Kinks tell the tale of Lola and Tony Joe White reveals all about Polk Salad Annie and her grandma. Other artists include The Beatles, Carly Simon, James Taylor, The Association, Joni Mitchell and more!

We’re at Midweek With the ‘What’s In a Name’ EP, Randy Newman and John Fogerty, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023

Today we’ve got songs about names, Randy Newman as our featured singer-songwriter and John Fogerty ‘live’ from Royal Albert Hall.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

What’s in a name? Ask Shakespeare. Or ask Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Randy Newman

Randy Newman is back for his second airing as our featured singer-songwriter for the week.

When John Fogerty appeared at this performance in 2008, it was his first time returning to that venue since Creedence played there in 1971 and, believe me, it was well worth the wait.
