It’s a Wilbury Wednesday Today, But We Kick It Off With Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ Multi-Artist EP, March 20, 2024

We finally have a Wilbury Wednesday on tap with a great playlist, but we are kicking things off with our ‘Here Comes The Night’ multi-artist EP first!

Here’s your midweek musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

We closed the show with songs about the morning the other day, so it’s only fitting we open today with songs about the night time. You’ll hear Warren Zevon, The J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Beatles, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Doors, Poco, Emmylou Harris, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff and Bonnie Raitt.

7:00 p.m. The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

The best supergroup on the planet, bar none, is back with outtakes, alternative takes, works-in-progress and the final product in nearly three hours of great music. Not to be missed.

Before, in between and after we’ve got our big, wide Open Stream of more than 27,000 songs continually circulating for your listening pleasure…always at no charge to you and with absolutely no commercial interruption.

It’s Wilbury Wednesday Here in The Lounge as We Bring You The Bootlegs, Followed by Laura Nyro and a New Elvis Presley Spotlight as We Celebrate His Birthday, January 11, 2023

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today we have our first Wilbury Wednesday of the new year and we belatedly celebrate The King’s 88th birthday (this past Sunday). We’re sometimes more than a day late but we’re never a dollar short.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Wilbury Wednesday: The Bootleg Series

Yep. It’s all here. Outtakes. Alternate versions. Special recording sessions. Stuff that was never released and stuff that was from the absolute best supergroup on the planet, bar none.

3:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Laura Nyro

We give Laura Nyro her second airing of three today as this week’s featured Singer-Songwriter. Our final airing will be sometime on Friday as we get ready to introduce a new artist on Saturday.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Elvis Presley NEW!

There are several founding artists of rock n’ roll, but Elvis made the music accessible to all as we began a great revolution in music. This past Sunday would have been The King’s 88th birthday. In celebration, although belatedly, we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

We’re at midweek, people. It’s all downhill toward the weekend from here, and we’ve got the best music on the planet to help your journey more pleasant. We are on 24/7 at no charge to you. We do not accept commercial advertising or employ chatty DJs who love the sound of their own voice. The Music Mermaid is having none of that.

It’s Midweek Once Again With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and a Long-Awaited Wilbury Wednesday Coming at You on July 6, 2022

Good Morning, Road Warriors! If you’re the traveling kind, then this day is perfect for you. We’ve not only got our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, but it’s a long-needed Wilbury Wednesday!

The Traveling Wilburys in the post-Roy Orbison timeframe

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Road music. That’s what we’ve got here from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Canned Heat, the Steve Miller Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep at The Wheel, The Byrds, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

7:00 p.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

It has been far too long between Wilbury Wednesdays and we aim to rectify that little problem today. We’ve got it all here: rough cuts, alternate versions, special sessions, and the final product all rolled into one great playlist. One musical journey that should not be missed!

This is undoubtedly a most excellent day to choose this little station, particularly if you like to sit and daydream about getting out of this right-wing gulag. But that’s another story for another day. We’d love to have you join your friends from around the globe today. The first time will not be the last time.

We’re at Midweek With a Totally Wilbury Wednesday, Including Solo Wilbury Trifectas at the Top of Each Hour on January 19, 2022

Nothing like following up a Total Tuesday Bluesday with a Wilbury Wednesday. That’s the way it rolls this week. Today we give you their catalogue, followed by the boys individually to top the afternoon hours.

Yeah. It’s a Wilbury Wednesday!

Here’s your Wilbury Wednesday line-up:

10:00 a.m. The Traveling Wilburys Complete: Volumes 1 & 3, Remixes and Extended Versions UPDATED!

Not to be confused with the Bootleg Series, which we ran last month. This particular edition of Wilbury Wednesday is composed of Volumes 1 and 3 (hint: They never made a Volume 2), and it also tosses in a few remixes, bonus tracks and extended versions of their two most well-known hits. The Bootleg Series is another thing entirely with special sessions and the like. We will be running that again next go-around.

Wilbury Trifecta Afternoon!

We’re running individual trifectas of each of the Wilburys this afternoon in their “other” musical lives.

2:00 p.m. Bob Dylan

3:00 p.m. George Harrison

4:00 p.m. Roy Orbison

5:00 p.m. Jeff Lynne

6:00 p.m. Tom Petty

Someone once wrote of The Traveling Wilburys that they are the only supergroup worthy of being called super and a group. I’m paraphrasing, of course, but it’s true. Let’s not also forget that they had the legendary Jim Keltner on drums, who chose the name Buster Sidebury. They are, without a doubt, the most popular supergroup of all time, and for good reason.

Before, in between, and after we run that wide Open Stream 24/7. We don’t stop when the programming stops. We keep going like the Energizer Bunny on musical steroids. Tune us in. We’re free too. That makes it even better.

We’ve Got A Totally Wilbury Wednesday Surrounded By Wide Open Stream, December 15, 2021

Good Morning, my musical friends! We here in The Mermaid Lounge have decided that this is a pretty good day for a Totally Wilbury Wednesday, and so it shall be.

Today belongs to the greatest supergroup ever!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

Every poll ever taken in the past twenty years that I’ve seen has resulted in this band being remembered as the greatest supergroup of all time. And I fully concur. Today we’ve got a gem for you with outtakes, rough takes, alternative versions, final versions and special sessions. It’s a look inside the music making of The Traveling Wilburys. For those who have not yet immersed themselves in this band, you can explore the website right here. You can also watch this short documentary from George Harrison here. It’s all great fun, I assure you.

3:00 p.m. The Wilbury Trifecta Afternoon!

We get back to streaming for the rest of the day, but starting mid-afternoon we kick off trifectas by members of the band (although not Wilbury music). Do you get that? Or did I confuse you?

3:00 p.m. Bob Dylan (Lucky Wilbury)

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty (Charlie T. Wilbury Junior)

5:00 p.m. George Harrison (Nelson Wilbury)

6:00 p.m. Jeff Lynne (Otis Wilbury)

7:00 p.m. Roy Orbison (Lefty Wilbury)

Did you know that they changed their names again for Volume 3? And by the way, there was never a Volume 2. Just sayin’

This is a great day to make us your music source. Trust me. We’re totally free 24/7. We run no advertising. We don’t require a credit card or personal information. What else could you possibly want but a free radio station that spends it’s time pumping out music?

Happy Birthday, Tom Petty! We’re Sandwiched In PettyLand Today Around All That Great Stream, Wednesday, October 20, 2021

We celebrate Tom Petty’s life and musical contributions today on what would be his 71st birthday. We’re locked in on The Traveling Wilburys today (which also makes it a Wilbury Wednesday) and a great live stint in Lucca, Italy.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Complete Wilbury Sessions: Volume 1 & 3

The complete Wilbury’s treatment with outtakes, alternative versions, demos, rough cuts, special sessions, never-before-heard songs. Just over two hours of Wilbury musical magic.

Not only is this pertinent to Petty’s birthday, but the very first Traveling Wilburys album (Volume 1) was released 33 years ago this week, on October 18, 1988.

5:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at the Lucca Summer Festival, Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

A great live performance by The Heartbreakers here that you won’t want to miss.

All Day Tom Petty Trifectas!

We’re not putting up a schedule on these. Suffice it to say that they’ll be running at the top of several hours of the day, all day and into the evening. You’ll just have to tune us in to listen in.

Great day to join our family of listeners around the globe as we celebrate the life and musical contributions of one of the most talented, humble and gracious artists ever to grace the planet. You will not regret it.

It’s Wilbury Wednesday Here In The Mermaid Lounge, and We’ve Got Joni Mitchell Live Later, September 8, 2021

Good Morning, Supergroup Lovers! What we have here today is the best supergroup of all time. They weren’t around for very long, and they never really did take to the road. But The Traveling Wilburys are universally loved, and with good reason.

The fun stats at noon today!

Here’s your midweek line-up:

12:00 p.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

Rough takes, outtakes, final versions and special recording sessions. It’s all here in this great collection. More than two hours of Wilbury music by the best damned supergroup ever assembled. You can learn the true story of The Traveling Wilburys here, and you can visit their great website here.

7:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at The Teatro Tenda, Lampugno, Milan, Italy, May 9, 1983

Today we have a true legend in her own time live from Milan, Italy. The year is 1983 and it was part of her Refuge World Tour, a celebration of her first Geffen album release. Wild Things Run Free had been released in October of the previous year.

Wilbury Wednesday is always a great day to tune us in, so why not join your friends from Italy, the UK, The Russian Federation, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain this morning? We’re totally free, run 24/7 uninterrupted (unless the sun explodes), and without commercial interruption.

We’re at The Midweek Point With a Wilbury Wednesday, and Our Psychedelic Express Playlist Later, July 14, 2021

Good Morning, fellow Wilbury lovers everywhere! We’ve got a Wilbury Wednesday in store for you today as we play the complete collection today. Later on, it’s our Psychedelic Express playlist.

The post-Orbison era Wilburys. Simply the greatest supergroup ever assembled.

Here’s today’s programming:

11:00 a.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Complete Wilburys: Volumes 1 & 3

Everything they ever recorded, both with and after Roy Orbison’s untimely death. They numbered the volumes this way for some unknown reason and we are not arguing. People should not forget Buster Sidebury, who is the great Jim Keltner on drums. Here’s some material on the Wilburys for your reading enjoyment. (By the way, it’s a great website to travel through.)

7:00 p.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

This one is due for an update, but here it is nevertheless. You’ll hear Donovan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Blues Image, Jefferson Airplane, The Chambers Brothers, The Byrds, Cream, The Beatles, The Doors, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, and more!

In between, it’s wide Open Stream, so enjoy as we prepare for the Linda Ronstadt birthday bash tomorrow. We’re totally free every day, not just when we want to suck you into a subscription (which we don’t even ask for). We run no advertising, just an occasional station I.D. from yours truly, and we certainly don’t want to know your personal information. We have our own problems here.

It’s Wilbury Wednesday, and We’ve Also Got Bonnie Raitt In the Spotlight and Our ‘Nothing But Heartbreak’ Playlist Later, June 9, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a Wilbury Wednesday on tap, along with some Bonnie Raitt and our Nothing But Heartbreak Playlist on tap sprinkled in all that Open Stream.

We start the day with Bonnie Raitt. Does it get any better?

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Bonnie Raitt

I’ve seen Bonnie Raitt quite a few times. She, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris saved my sanity during the seventies. We drove just about everywhere to see them…Portland, Maine; Worcester, Mass; the Providence Civic Center in Rhode Island; and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in upstate New York.

But one of the best memories I have was in a little bar in Cambridge, Massachusetts while we were watching John Lincoln Wright & The Sourmash Boys and we caught a glimpse of a young Bonnie Raitt sitting near the piano. When she got up on stage and sang with them, it was like heaven. Today, we put Bonnie Raitt In the Spotlight, but she has always been in mine. (And did I mention she’s one badass guitarist?)

3:00 p.m WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

Though short-lived, the Wilburys have distinguished themselves as the premier ‘supergroup’ on the planet. Every time I see a poll done on those music websites, they are overwhelmingly voted number one by musicologists. And I concur wholeheartedly. For those who still don’t know The Traveling Wilburys: George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne made some incredible music together. Only Lynne and Dylan remain on the planet, but their music lives on.

7:00 p.m. Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists

Heartbreak appears to be my specialty in life. I am well-versed in the craft, and have decided that I’m giving up all this love stuff. It was in the middle of my last heartbreak that I built this playlist. It’s a great collection, and I hope you all enjoy my misery.

For a little sampling of who you’ll be hearing: The Pretenders, Tom Rush, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Carole King, Mudcrutch, The Band, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, The Bee Gees, The J. Geils Band, and more!

Yeah, here we go again: It’s a great day to tune us in. In addition to the fact that we are not-for-profit and accessible just with the click of the link below, the music is nothing short of fantastic.

It’s Wilbury Wednesday Here in The Mermaid Lounge, and We’ve Got ‘Live’ Bob Marley Later, April 21, 2021

Good Morning and welcome to Wilbury Wednesday. We’ve got an excellent couple of hours of Wilbury music you will not hear anywhere else. We tell you why below!

Join us for Bob Marley & The Wailers Live from Santa Barbara later today!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

12:00 p.m. The Traveling Wilburys Complete: The Bootleg Series

This material was offered to us by a listener. We have no idea where it came from, but we went on an extensive search for Wilbury “bootlegs” before this and could find nothing. We employ a musical don’t ask, don’t tell here. There are demos, rough cuts, outtakes, and session music. Chris Hillman even pays a visit. Enjoy!

6:00 p.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers Live From The Santa Barbara County Bowl, November 25, 1979

The legend live. There’s nothing like it. We’re on a mission here to create long-playing playlists, if you will. Reggae and Ska is next on the list. You can bet that Bob Marley & The Wailers will be a big part of that effort. This is a great live performance, so we hope you’ll tune it in.

In between this programming, we’ve got nothing but wide Open Stream as chosen by our Music Mermaid. She’s got great taste, and she’s not adverse to picking up a couple of playlists here and there. You’ll have to listen carefully.
