We say goodbye today to a great album by Carl Perkins and his many friends, like George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more! Get it while you can!

11:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Five hours of open stream with a theme here with colors of all kinds being the topic. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Donovan, Booker T. & The MGs, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Any Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. The legendary singer, songwriter, keyboardist (sometimes guitarist) and co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band is our featured singer-songwriter this coming week. He was a musical pioneer who combined traditional blues with rock, jazz and country to help give the Allman Brothers Band their amazing and unique sound. Gregg Allman became the heart and soul of the band after his brother died, and he did himself and Duane proud.

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Go Cat Go! by Carl Perkins & Friends

They say you’re judged by the company you keep. I’d say Carl Perkins is in good shape with Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and more on this great album.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Pink Floyd

Been a while since we’ve heard the Floyd around these parts, so tonight we are putting them In the Spotlight where they belong.

Another great day of music for the mind and body. Give us a try. You’ll love us. I promise. You have absolutely nothing to lose. We won’t cost you a penny. Not one cent.

You’ll hear Billie Holliday, Big Mama Thornton, Ruth Brown, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Koko Taylor, Ellen McIlwaine, Bonnie Raitt, Christine McVie, Marcia Ball, Susan Tedeschi, Irma Thomas, Tracy Nelson, Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Sippie Wallace, Bessie Smith, Shaun Murphy, Angela Strehli, Aretha Franklin, The Blues Broads and more!

The original Fleetwood Mac was a flat-out blues band, and the were awesome under Peter Green’s leadership. Tonight we have them live from The Warehouse in New Orleans, a great place to hear ‘live’ blues.

Tuesday Bluesday is a popular day around these parts. Why not join a worldwide group of audiophiles and listen to some great music today? We’re on 24/7 totally free of charge and with no commercial interruption!

We Keep It Simple With Our Carl Perkins & Friends AOW, and Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ Multi-Artist EP, Sunday, July 30, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! It’s officially a day of rest and the living is easy. We keep it simple here in The Mermaid Lounge too. Some streaming with a theme, our AOW and the rest our big, wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid.

Here’s your musical landscape:

Perkins has made a few of these, but on this particular version (our favorite) his friends are outstanding with George Harrison, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Ringo Starr, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon. This one is fun.

3:00 p.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

We’ve given you the drill before: The earth is composed of 71% water. You’d think people would be concerned with taking care of that natural resource, but you’d be pretty wrong about that at this stage in our environmental history. You’ll hear from Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

Buddy Holly was an American singer-songwriter who was a game-changer and pioneer in the development of rock and roll during his short stay on this planet. The Beatles claim him as a major influence and, in fact, revealed later in their career that they named themselves The Beatles because Buddy Holly’s band was named ‘The Crickets.’

Tom Petty once said he envisioned his band as a bunch of old men sitting around in chairs playing the blues. He never made it that far, but he and his band mates certainly paid credible homage to the genre over the years. Tonight we give you one of our favorite playlists.

Tuesday Bluesday is always a live one in The Mermaid Lounge with a worldwide audience for most of the day. Be one of them. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free…and we’re also free of commercial advertising.

This guy had our album of the week a couple of weeks ago and we promised he’d be back, so here he is. Generally know as a songwriter, J.D. Souther is very underrated as a singer.
