Nothing But Heartache on Valentines Day, The All-Girl Revue, Vol. 3, and Tom Rush’s “Take A Little Walk With Me” is Our Album of The Week, Sunday, February 14, 2021

Happy Valentines Day, Music Lovers! We’ve got a great Valentines Day lined up today, even if the playlist is about heartbreak. There’s also volume 3 of our All-Girl Revue and a brand new Album of the Week by our friend Tom Rush.

We’ve got the ladies coming up at 7:00 p.m., so stick around!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Take A Little Walk With Me by Tom Rush NEW!

Tom Rush’s second album for Elektra hit the airwaves in 1966. He’s one of our favorites here in The Mermaid Lounge, a New England original born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. And the man who is credited with starting the era of the singer-songwriter.

3:00 p.m. Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists

Not exactly the most uplifting playlist on this Valentines Day, but given my track record, it’s appropriate! You’ll hear heartfelt lament from Dan Fogelberg, Aretha Franklin, Tom Rush, J. Geils Band, Mudcrutch, Elvis Presley, Carole King, Warren Zevon, The Beatles, and more!

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume 3: Various Artists

We’ve got volume three today. Somehow the women of music always get the short end of the recognition stick. I mentioned this in a Twitter post. First, I can’t believe they’re inducting rappers into what is supposed to be the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That’s enough of an insult. But to be inducting Jay-Z and Carole King in 2021? What the fuck is up with that. It’s an insult to Carole King, frankly. It’s like the Nobel Peace Prize now. A collective joke. But I digress…

Hear Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Shawn Colvin, Norah Jones, Carly Simon, Phoebe Snow, Valerie Carter, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, and more!

Tune in. Turn on. Drop out. It’s Sunday. And it’s Valentines Day. Time to kick back and enjoy the sounds. All free. No credit card. No membership. No personal informaton required.

The Original All-Girl Revue, The Beach Boys’ Smile Sessions, and Roy Orbison’s “Mystery Girl” on Thursday, February 4, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers. We’ve got some great music lined up for the day, including the original All-Girl Revue.

The Great Underappreciated Legends of Rock: Women

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Mystery Girl by Roy Orbison

Orbison’s 22nd album was recorded just prior to his untimely death at the age of 52, and released posthumously. This is the deluxe edition.

3:00 p.m. The Original All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

This is the very first all-female playlist we ever put together, featuring Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Joan Baez, Fontella Bass, Carole King, Ann Peebles, and Janis Joplin, among others.

7:00 p.m. The Beach Boys: The Smile Sessions

A collection of recordings from the band’s abandoned album, Smile, recorded between 1966 and 1967. This is just a selection of those recordings, not the entire set.

Tune in. Turn on. Drop out. Someone famous once said that. I consider it sage advice at this time in our history. We’re waiting for you to join us here.

The Ladies Are Back To Sing to Us, The Band is In The Spotlight, & Dylan’s Album of The Week, Thursday, January 21, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’re past the mid-week point, thankfully, and we’ve got a damned good line-up to day. It starts with one of The All-Girl Revues this morning.

The All-Girl Revue, Volume 3, kicks it off this morning.

Here’s your line-up:

11:00 a.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume Three: Various Artists UPDATED!

It’s been a while since we heard this particular collection, and we just expanded the playlist, adding new songs and artists. You will hear Linda Ronstadt, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Valerie Carter, Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones, Marial Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt, and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rough and Rowdy Ways by Bob Dylan

We are winding down on this one. Saturday will be your last day to hear the first collection of original Bob Dylan songs since 2012. Tune it in!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Band

The Band is an American classic. Beginning as Dylan’s back-up band, this amazing talented group of musicians went on to build a kick-ass history that has stood the test of time. One of our favorites here in The Mermaid Lounge. Luckily, I’ll be home from the salt mines for this one.

It’s time, people. We’ve got plenty of it, and you keep wasting yours on commercial stations. You ought to join your friends from Europe and Asia and tune us in.

The Women Own It: We Have Young Linda Ronstadt and The All-Girl Revue 4 Sandwiched Around The Final Airing of The Shadow, Friday, January 8, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! The ladies own the day today, and rightfully so. And by the way, there is no other radio station shining a light on women in rock music.

We’re all in on The women of rock n’ roll today. Get with the damned program.

Here’s your line-up for this fine day:

11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt: The Stone Poneys & The Early Years

A pretty concise retrospective here of Linda Ronstadt’s beginnings, before she stole that show on that Neil Young arena tour and before Heart Like A Wheel launched her incredible career. The groundwork was laid with The Stone Poneys and her early contributions.

3:00 p.m. The Shadow: 06 House of Horror FINAL AIRING!

Our final airing of this week’s episode of The Shadow. On Monday, we will have episode seven.

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume 4: Various Artists

It’s funny how women continue to be a footnote in rock n’ roll history. There is so much evidence of their contribution that it cannot legitimately be denied. Here in The Mermaid Lounge, we don’t view rock n’ roll as strictly a man’s world. The evidence is quite to the contrary.

In this volume of The All-Girl Revue you’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Valerie Carter, Petula Clark, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Carly Simon, and many more!

Tune us in. We’re free. I mean, really free: No credit card or personal information required. All you need is a computer ad a free tab. No shit. No lie.
