It’s a Scortcha Here Outside The Mermaid Lounge, and We’ve Got a Hot Line-up As Well With A New Album of The Week and Our Original Sixties Rotation, Sunday, June 6, 2021

Good Morning, Summer Lovers! It’s going to be 95 degrees outside The Lounge here today, and it’s a good thing we’ve got AC crankin’ because it’s pretty hot inside as well!

Today we feature The Original Sixties Rotation!3:.m.

Here’s your Sunday funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Old Yellow Moon by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell NEW!

This fantastic 2013 release won the Grammy Award for the Best Americana Album. It was Harris’ 13th Grammy. The album itself was her twenty-seventh studio release, and Crowell’s tenth. Although they originally met in 1974, it took them until 2012 to record an album together. I saw the tour promoting this album, and the musical chemistry between Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell was amazing.

It only took the pair two years to release a follow up album called The Travelin’ Kind, and we’ll be featuring that as a future Album of The Week.

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This was the very first playlist we ever put together back when we started, and it features The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five, Johnny Rivers, Bobbie Gentry, Little Eva, The Searchers, The Who, The Supremes, Bob Dylan, The Hollies, The Turtles, Petula Clark, Barry McGuire, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Kinks, and many more! More than five hours of uninterrupted musical nirvana!

It’s hotter than Hades out there, and I’m hunkering down here in The Lounge with some good music. We won’t cost you a damned penny. That’s no lie. We’re not going to ask you to subscribe. And we’re certainly not going to sell you anything. Why not join your friends from around the world and do the same?

It’s Sunday In The Mermaid Lounge With Our New Album of The Week, and ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ On May 30, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s another Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge and that’s usually the day we bring you a long-player to fill up the musical hours along with our brand new Album of The Week.

Asleep At The Wheel is just one of the great artists you’ll hear this afternoon!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers NEW!

Exodus was Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ninth studio release in June of 1977, and boasts six singles, including One Love/People Get Ready, Jammin’, Three Little Birds, and Turn Your Lights Down Low.

Consider this a preview for our newest upcoming longplayer covering Reggae, Ska, and World Music. It will hopefully be launched by next month.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready For The Country? Various Artists

This marks the second airing of this great new playlist covering both traditional and country-rock, including Asleep At The Wheel, Neil Young (with and without Crazy Horse), Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, Glen Campbell, The Byrds, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt, Carlene Carter, Roseann Cash, Alison Krauss & Union Station, and more!

Don’t know how it is where you are, but the weather is pretty dismal here on the East Coast. It’s cold. It’s rainy. And it’s a great day to hunker down with a blanket, a book and some great music.

Live Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash In Session, Sayonara to Our Album of The Week, and LIVE DEAD, Saturday, May 29, 2021

It’s our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we have a great line-up of programming as we wind down our tribute to Dylan’s 80th birthday.

We have Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live From The Olympic on The Last DJ Tour!

Here’s Saturday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live From The Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, October 16, 2002

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers live at The Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles on The Last DJ tour. You know how the music critics are. Albums with a great collection of songs are not good enough anymore. They all have to have a “concept” behind them. But that is exactly what The Last DJ is: A great collection of songs amidst Petty’s lament about what radio has become. And as someone who grew up with a transistor glued to my right ear listening to AM radio (which was where the best music was at the time), WMEX in Boston, I can empathize wholeheartedly. This is a great performance, people.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: The Wallflowers by The Wallflowers FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of The Wallflowers. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, there will be a brand new selection. And although we have it chosen, we give you no hints.

7:00 p.m. Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash: In Session, Nashville 1969

Back when Bob Dylan was recording Nashville Skyline, he got together with another master named Johnny Cash and they recorded a bunch of songs. Only one, Girl From The North Country, made it to Nashville Skyline. This is the result of that recording session.

10:00 p.m. Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at McArthur Court, The University of Oregon, Eugene, January 22, 1978 NEW!

Tonight we have The Grateful Dead live from McArthur Court at The University of Oregon, another new-to-us LIVE performance for one of the most masterful live bands in the history of music.

I don’t know how it is elsewhere, but it’s cold, rainy and nasty here. I’m forced to work in retail hell today, but if I had my way, I’d tune in to #BecomeUngovernable Radio. Join your friends today from Canada, Italy, Spain, The Russian Federation, The Faroe Islands, The Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Portugal. They’re waiting for you.
