We Open With Our ‘Ode to Morning’ EP, Then We Have a New Turtles Spotlight Feature, and Clapton Live at The Baloise Sessions, Monday, September 23, 2024

Good morning, workers! You’re back at it today and so are we! We have a brand new Spotlight featuring The Turtles sandwiched between songs about morning and live Clapton!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We closed with songs about the night, so it’s only fitting that we open with songs about morning today. You’ll hear Yusuf/Cat Stevens, The Beatles, Hoyt Axton, Neil Young, The Rascals, Joan Baez, Waylon Jennings, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Townes Van Zandt, Chris Hillman and more!

In the course of a decade, particularly the sixties, not every group is a groundbreaking group. Some bands just make great music and chart hits. That was The Turtles. They formed in L.A. in 1965 and by the end of the decade they were tearing up the charts. Today we put them In the Spotlight!

8:00 p.m. Eric Clapton Live at Event Halle, Basel, Switzerland, November 13 & 14, 2013

We close with Eric Clapton and his band live at The Baloise Sessions music festival in Switzerland.

Mondays do not have to be bad. We’re here to help get you through with great music 24/7 at absolutely no cost to you and with no commercial interruption. The button is below.

Spend Sunday With Donovan, The Zombies Live in Concert and Songs About The Night Later, on September 22, 2024

Good morning, music lovers and weekenders! We are here with a Donovan Spotlight feature, a reunited Zombies concert from 2008 and our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Donovan

We open up the festivities with Scottish musician, songwriter and record producer, Donovan, who emerged from the British folk scene in 1965. He was a fixture on the charts and the radio with a string of hits in the late sixties that have stood the test of time.

The Zombies are one of those sixties bands that kind of fell through the cracks for some inexplicable reason. As one music critic noted, perhaps it was because there was so much good music at the time.Their legend has surely grown over the decades and it is clear that they were one of the finest, yet most underappreciated, bands of the sixties. By the time of this reunion tour, some of the members were gone. However, vocalist Colin Blunstone and keyboard wizard Rod Argent were there.

5:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

We close out the programming and move into the after dark hours with songs about the night from Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Doors, John Cougar Mellencamp, Poco, Emmylou Harris, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Buffet, Bonnie Raitt and more!

Good morning, peace and music lovers, and welcome to the International Day of Peace! We’ve got brand new playlist today on the subject, along with our Original Sixties Rotation and live Creedence Clearwater Revival!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

We start off with music from the peace and love decade. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Little Eva, The Everly Brothers, The Searchers, Dusty Springfield, The Drifters, The Dave Clark Five, Johnny Rivers, Bob Dylan, The Animals, Petula Clark, The Rolling Stones, Procol Harum, The Turtles, Del Shannon, The Temptations, James Brown, Fontella Bass, The Box Tops, Blues Image, Booker T & The MGs, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Them, The Left Banke, Fats Domino and more!

4:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at Royal Albert Hall, London, UK, April 14, 1970

CCR released three albums alone in 1969, so they had plenty of material to take on the road with them. Today they are live from Royal Albert Hall.

We celebrate this International Day of Peace with Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, The Beatles, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Youngbloods, The Byrds, Creedence Clearwater Revival, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Peter, Paul & Mary, Jackie DeShannon, The Grateful Dead, War, the Allman Brothers Band, The Cranberries, Patti Smith, Curtis Mayfield, The Impressions and more!

The weekend is officially here and what could be better than some great music to kick it all off today. Join us. It’s free. The button is below.

Today We’ve Got Live Jefferson Airplane, the ‘Music From Laurel Canyon’ EP, and J.D. Souther, Friday, September 20, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re on the cusp of the weekend here and we’ve got some great music lined up, including our tribute to the brilliant John David Souther.

Here’s your Friday lineup:

We’ve got one of the most iconic sixties bands to open things up, this time from The Fillmore East.

1:00 p.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

Laurel Canyon was a great two decade music cross-fertilization project and it produced music that was the first to challenge the British Invasion music dominating the American charts. In fact, they heard it in Britain and it immediately took hold. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Judy Collins and more!

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of John David (J.D.) Souther

Speaking of the Laurel Canyon generation and those who pioneered country-rock, we sadly lost J.D. Souther on September 17, just about a week before he was scheduled to hit the road with Karla Bonoff. Souther was a songwriting legend, whose songs were tickets to fame for The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt, among others. Today, we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

We’re here 24/7 with no commercial interruption, and we’ve got some of the most eclectic programming on the planet. The button is below.

On Thursday It’s the ‘Color My World’ EP, a Little Richard Spotlight and Live Eva Cassidy Live at Pearl’s, September 19, 2024

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

We start out with songs about colors in the title, lyrics or both from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Donovan, Booker T. & The MGs, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Little Richard

This afternoon we feature one of the founding fathers of rock and roll, the great Little Richard.

8:00 p.m. Eva Cassidy Live at Pearl’s Restaurant, Annapolis, MD, September 14, 1994

We close out the programming with the late, great Eva Cassidy who left us far too soon. Still, she left behind an amazing volume of work to remember her by.

It’s Thursday. We’re almost there. Tune us in. We’re on 24/7 and we doubt very seriously that you’ll ever hear a repeat in a day. We’re also totally free with absolutely no commercial interruption. The button is below.

On Wednesday It’s ‘The Founders’ EP, Live Jimi Hendrix and Volume Three of The ‘All-Girl Revue’, September 18, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! Today we give respect to the founders of rock and roll, those who inspired the first generation of classic rock. Did I complicate that enough?

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Founders: Various Artists

Okay, I’ve already over complicated this thing. You’ll hear Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & The Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

We give you a bit of new-to-the-station live Hendrix this afternoon, this one from the Forum.

8:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume Three: Various Artists

We chill out with the ladies this evening, including Linda Ronstadt, Phoebe Snow, Carole King, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Melanie, Dolly Parton, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Valerie Carter, Wendy Waldman, Susan Tedeschi, Aretha Franklin and more!

I’m headed out for truck day, but you’ll be hanging out with The Music Mermaid for the day. We’re on 24/7, so I’ll be here a bit later. Until then, enjoy the musical ride. It’s totally free. The button is below.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Louisiana Blues, Live Stevie Ray Vaughan and Tracy Nelson In The Spotlight, September 17, 2024

Good morning, blues lovers! Welcome to another Tuesday Bluesday as I return to work and The Music Mermaid takes charge. We start with some Louisiana blues!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Best of Louisiana Blues: Various Artists

We take a trip to the deep south to hear Ray Charles, Lillian Glinn, Slim Harpo, Ray Brown, Fats Domino, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Rodney Harris, Roosevelt Sykes, Shirley & Lee, Papa Lightfoot, Guitar Slim, Annie Laurie, Fats Matthews, Big Joe Turner, Big Boy Myles, Little Walter, Mary Butler, Erline Harris, Dave Bartholomew, Marcia Ball, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, the Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas and more!

4:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Mann Music Center, Philadelphia, PA, June 30, 1987

We spend some time this afternoon listening to guitar god Stevie Ray Vaughan live from Philly!

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tracy Nelson

She’s a little bit country and she’s a little bit blues, and that makes for some great country blues sounds to close out our Tuesday Bluesday programming!

Tuesdays are always busy in The Lounge, but there’s plenty of room for everyone. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free and every Tuesday is a blues day. That’s how it works here. The button is below.

Songs About Water, A Zombies Spotlight Feature and Dylan & Cash ‘in Session’ Dominate Sunday, September 15, 2024

Good morning, musicologists, and welcome to Sunday in The Lounge. Today we’ve got songs about water, a new Spotlight featuring The Zombies and Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash ‘in session’ in Nashville, vintage 1969.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

And it is everywhere, comprising 71% of the elements on earth. You’ll hear from Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

The Zombies are certainly one of the best of the British Invasion bands, and this Spotlight feature is long overdue. We’ve also got some live shows coming up in the future.

8:00 p.m. Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash “In Session” at Columbia Studios, Nashville, TN, February 17 & 18, 1969

This is a great ‘in session’ performance by two masters during the recording of Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album, one of my personal Dylan favorites. Although The Girl From The North Country was the only cut to make the album, it was a great collaboration.

Yeah, it’s Sunday Funday and we’ve got our usual great daily lineup sprinkled among all the big, wide Open Stream we offer every single day. And best of all, we’re free of charge and totally free of commercial interruption.
