Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy Team Up for Our New Album of The Week, and It’s a Sixties Sunday on May 17, 2020!

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Today we have a brand new Album of the Week, and it’s our Sixties Rotation Sunday!

Adieu False Heart-Linda Ronstadt-Ann Savoy

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

10:00 a.m.   Album of The Week: Adieu False Heart, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy   NEW!

Nobody can ever accuse Linda Ronstadt of resting on her laurels. She was always in pursuit of the next musical adventure. The absolute best thing about Ronstadt — at least for her true fans — was that she refused to have her music defined by anybody. To put it bluntly, she sang because she loved singing.

This album was released on July 25, 2006. It would be Ronstadt’s last studio album before her retirement in 2011, and her revelation about having Parkinson’s Disease. Her musical partner is the amazing Ann Savoy, a Cajun music singer with a band called The Magolia Sisters. Ronstadt is technically a soprano; Savoy an alto. They had made duets before for a Cajun tribute album. Here, they unite as The Zozo Sisters, and the result is stunning.

Absolute Fact: Linda Ronstadt’s ultimate desire was to be part of an all-girl band. Those were the kinds of projects she sought out for herself.

2:00 p.m.    The Sixties on Sunday!

We’re back with five hours of musical programming that defined a generation. From The Beatles, to The Kinks, to Barry McGuire, Lulu, Del Shannon, and Bob Dylan. It’s all here!

So, it’s Sunday. A day of rest. What are you going to do about that?

The Lovin’ Spoonful, Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions, and It’s An Album Two-Fer on Sunday, May 3, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s Sunday Funday, and we’ve got not one — but two — albums on tap rather unexpectedly today!

The Lovin Spoonful-3

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m.   NOT The Album of the Week: You’re Gonna Get It by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (1978)   NEW!

I discovered quite by chance yesterday that this album was released 42 years ago, on May 2, 1978. It is just the second studio album by The Heartbreakers, and resulted in two massive hits in Listen To Her Heart and I Need to Know. We thought it would be a great idea to slip this one in today!

1:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of The Lovin’ Spoonful

One of the great bands from that Echoes in the Canyon era of days gone by.

5:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Running On Empty by Jackson Browne (1977)  NEW!

In my humble opinion, this is not only one of Jackson Browne’s best albums, but one of the best of all time. I wore this thing out. Running on Empty was released in 1977, peaked on the Billboard charts at #3 in 1978, and stayed there for 65 weeks.  The theme was life on the road, and was recorded live on stage, backstage, on tour buses, or in hotel rooms.

8:00 p.m.    We Shall Overcome: Bruce Springsteen’s Pete Seeger Sessions

This collection of traditional folk songs arranged by Springsteen was released in 2006. Springsteen called on a group of lesser-known musicians from New York and New Jersey to put together this album. It also resulted in a 62-city tour.

No commercials. No fees. No credit card required. No politicians. No bullshit. That’s us.

The Allman Brothers & Eric Clapton, Ronstadt “Live” on Boston Common, Jakob Dylan in the Spotlight, and “Elite Hotel” Returns, Thursday, April 16, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Here we are ramping up for another fine day of programming before tomorrow’s Open Stream Day.

Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers

Here’s your Thursday line-up!

12:00 p.m.   The Allman Brothers Band & Eric Clapton, Live at the Beacon (2009)

Imagine you’re at the Beacon Theater watching the Allman Brothers play…and Eric Clapton joins them on stage. Are you kidding me?

4:00 p.m.     Linda Ronstadt Live on Boston Common, July 22, 1983   NEW!

By the eighties, Linda Ronstadt knew there was ‘something wrong’ with her voice, but none of us in the audience even noticed. Another great performance by the most accomplished, versatile, talented female singer of all time.

7:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers, Solo

Last week we featured Willie’s boy. This week, Bob’s boy. He’s no slouch either.

10:00 p.m.  Album of the Week: Elite Hotel by Emmylou Harris

If you want to find out what you’re missing, you’re going to have to tune us in.

BeauSoleil “Live” in Louisiana, Richie Havens Sings The Beatles & Dylan, and Dylan & The Dead’s Long Strange Trip, Wednesday, April 15, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We have a little Cajun-Zydeco to go along with your Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, and Richie Havens today!

Richie Havens

Here’s your mid-week line-up!

12:00 p.m.  BeauSoleil Live in Louisiana!

Sometimes we forget how good this music really is. BeauSoleil reminds us.

4:00 p.m.    Richie Havens Sings The Beatles & Dylan   NEW!

I had forgotten this even existed until I was hunting around for something else. Richie Havens got on the map by being the opening act at the original Woodstock. The only real Woodstock.

7:00 p.m.    Dylan & The Dead

A classic from that long, strange road trip they took together in 1978.

Tune us in. We’ve made it half way through already.

Dylan’s “Murder Most Foul,” John Prine in the Spotlight, and There’s Nothing Like That Sweet Soul Sound, Friday, April 10, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We lost another troubadour this week. John Prine passed away, leaving yet another hole in the singer/songwriter category. We pay him respects.

John Prine-Bonnie Raitt

John Prine and Bonnie Raitt singing the wondrous Angel From Montgomery.

Here’s your Friday line-up:

1:00 p.m.   Bob Dylan’s Murder Most Foul

Dylan’s first new release in 8 years is his perspective on the assassination of John F. Kennedy or, as I refer to it, the beginning of our end. This is the first Dylan song to top the Billboard charts in his career (not that he ever gave a shit about that), a testament to both of their legacies.

4:00 p.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of John Prine  NEW!

Singer-Songwriters aren’t easy to come by, and we lost one of the most revered of his generation this week. John Prine’s Angel From Montgomery remains Bonnie Raitt’s defining tune to this day.

7:00 p.m.   That Sweet Soul Sound: Various Artists

The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Ann Peebles, Curtis Mayfield, Roberta Flack, The Staple Singers, and many more.

Tune us in. And did I mention that this weekend we have Sixties Sunday?

James Taylor & Joni Mitchell Live, The Stones Live From The Vault, and The Pretenders in the Spotlight, Monday, March 23, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! The beginning of another stressful work week for sure, but we can help you through with some great music.

James Tayor Joni Mitchell

Here’s your Monday line-up!

2:00 p.m.    James Taylor & Joni Mitchell: Live at Royal Albert Hall, October 28, 1970    NEW!

There were a lot of musical relationships in those days, and this was one of the best. One of the songs that stands out the most is Long Ago and Far Away. Enjoy this one.

5:00 p.m.     The Rolling Stones: Live From The Vault, San Jose (1999)

8:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of The Pretenders

What are you waiting for? A personal invitation? Get on it, people.

We Get It Going With The Heartbreakers’ Live Anthology & “Court & Spark” Debuts as Album of The Week on Sunday, March 22, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Music is my great release in a time of stress, and I’m grateful to have #BecomeUngovernable Radio. You should give it a shot and tune us in. We’re rockin’ out with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Crank it up.

Petty on stage-another great fucking photo

Here’s today’s programming!

2:00 p.m.    Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Live Anthology, Parts 1 & 2

This music was made for crankin’ people. No doubt about it. The Heartbreakers were in their element playing live in front of an audience.

6:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: Court & Spark by Joni Mitchell  NEW!

Canada has given us some brilliant musicians, Joni Mitchell being one of them. Court & Spark was Mitchell’s sixth studio album and it was released on New Year’s Day, 1974. It was a hit right out of the gate, both commercially and critically, and it remains as the pinnacle of Joni Mitchell’s long and fruitful career.

All around and in between, we’re streaming more than 20,000 of the best songs you’ll ever hear. Tune us in, people.

Tom Rush in The Spotlight, Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Hang Out, and “Who’s Next,” Thursday, March 19, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Listening to #BecomeUngovernable Radio has been proven to be very good for your emotional well being. (Not really. I just made that shit up.) But you should tune us in anyway. We’ve got a good one today.

TOM-RUSH

Here’s your social distancing line-up!

11:00 a.m.     Album of the Week: Who’s Next, by The Who

There’s a very interesting story behind this album and where the material evolved from. You can learn more by clicking on the image to the right in the Album of the Week feature box.

2:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: The Music of Tom Rush     NEW!

Tom Rush is one of those guys who could easily go unnoticed, but that would be a giant mistake. Tom Rush has influenced an entire generation of musicians, including Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. He is credited by Rolling Stone magazine with creating the era of the singer-songwriter. Tom Rush has been a quiet force in music for a very long time. I recently saw him in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (his birth place), and he was doing just fine at 79.

7:00 p.m.       Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck: Live at the Country Club, Receda

Tune us in, people. All you need is a computer or a phone.

A Tribute to the Poet, Traffic Live at Woodstock ’94, and a Lesson in Folk Music, Thursday, March 5, 2020

townes van zandt

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Poet: A Tribute to Townes VanZandt

I have found many who don’t recognize the name. But those of us who do understand why there’s a tribute album. Despite a troubled life. VanZandt was an influence on many and many have recorded his songs, including Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson,  and Guy Clark.

2:00 p.m.       Traffic: Live at Woodstock ’94    NEW!

Yeah, there was only one real Woodstock. We know that. However, Traffic and Steve Winwood are a staple here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio, no matter where they play.

5:00 p.m.      Folk Music From A to Z

In keeping with the Townes VanZandt theme, we’re featuring a great folk music playlist today. Enjoy.

9:00 p.m.      Album of the Week: The Doors, by The Doors
