The final airing of The Doors, probably the most important album to the psychedelic music movement. Tomorrow, we feature a brand new album.

5:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real     NEW!

Yeah, it’s Willie’s boy, and this is one sweet band. Promise of the Real is also Neil Young’s new road band. Don’t miss this.

10:00 p.m.    Live Dead: The Grateful Dead, Europe ’72, Newcastle (April 11, 1972)   NEW!

We continue on with the Europe ’72 tour this week. As I’ve said, the beauty of The Dead is that no two concerts ever sound the same…or even have the same songs!

Tune us in while you clean the house, or whatever you do when you’re not slaving for the man (or the woman).

New Month & New Music: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing the Blues, Our New Album of The Week, & The Soul Queens, Vol. 1 on Sunday, March 1, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We begin a new month, and that means some new music. It’s also the beginning of a new week, which brings a new Album of the Week!

The Soul Queens, Vol. 1

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m.      Album of the Week: The Doors by The Doors

The debut album by The Doors was recorded in 1966 and released on January 4, 1967. It is viewed as central to the progression of psychedelic rock, has sold 20 million copies, and has a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame, as does The Doors’ debut hit, Light My Fire.

2:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing the Blues

Tom Petty wanted to make Mojo a blues album because he envisioned he and his bandmates as old men, sitting around together, playing and singing the blues. The Heartbreakers actually recorded a lot of blues tunes over their career. We decided to compile them for you.

8:00 p.m.       The Soul Queens, Volume 1: Various Artists

Martha & The Vandellas, The Supremes, Ann Peebles, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, The Ronettes, The Shirelles, and many more!

Listen, we’re free. And we’re playing the best shit around. Tune us in.

Dylan at Budokan, The “Let It Be” Sessions, Mudcrutch Madness & Van Morrison in the Spotlight, Friday, February 21, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s a fine day of programming here at The Mermaid Lounge, home of #BecomeUngovernable Radio!

59994159c5140b66aec22906195048f8

Here’s your Friday line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Bob Dylan Live at Budokan (1979)

2:00 p.m.       The Beatles’ Let It Be Sessions: Rare and Unreleased

By the time Let It Be rolled around, the good times were few and far between for The Beatles. Still, some of the old magic was there during the sessions, as you can see from today’s photo. We have about 30 session minutes in this set, followed by Let It Be…Naked, the non-Phil Spector version of Let It Be.

5:00 p.m.       Mudcrutch Madness!

There are those who will say that Mudcrutch doesn’t look a thing like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, but I’ll argue that point. Mudcrutch looks exactly like TPHB: A bunch of friends who enjoy playing music together and just happen to be really good at it.

In this band, the band that launched The Heartbreakers, Tom Petty is the bassist. And although he fronts the band and sings many of the songs, others contribute vocally as well. The standout here is the brilliant version of Hungry No More recorded at Boston’s House of Blues in 2016, which appeared on the posthumously-released An American Treasure box set in 2018.

9:00 p.m.      In the Spotlight: The Music of Van Morrison

We’re free and shall remain so. The ultimate “outside the system” broadcast. We require no personal information. Ever. No advertising. No politicians. No bullshit artists.

The Beatles Rock the Rooftop, The Doors in Concert & Linda Ronstadt in the Spotlight, Wednesday, February 19, 2020

Ronstadt B & W

Here’s your Wednesday line-up:

11:00 a.m.     The Beatles Complete Apple Rooftop Concert

The impromptu concert on the top of the Apple Studios building was a lunch-time treat that drove the British Bobbies mad!

2:00 p.m.       The Doors: Live in Concert

5:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: The Music of Linda Ronstadt

There has not been anybody like her since, and there may never be a voice like that again.

After Ronstadt, it’s Open Stream for the rest of the evening. You simply have to tune us in:

Donovan in the Spotlight, Jefferson Airplane Live in Copenhagen, Amy Winehouse Live in London & Our Album of the Week, Thursday, February 13, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We have a great Thursday program today, including new “live” music from Jefferson Airplane!

Jefferson Airplane

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of Donovan

2:00 p.m.       Album of the Week: Eat A Peach by The Allman Brothers Band

5:00 p.m.       The Jefferson Airplane: Live in Copenhagen, Denmark 8-28-68

The Jefferson Airplane was undoubtedly a force during the psychedelic music era. Somebody To Love, their most popular song by far, was released during the Summer of Love (1967), and catapulted them into the pop charts. The rest, as they say, is history.

9:00 p.m.       Amy Winehouse: Live at The Porchester Hall, London (2007)

Don’t forget to tune us in, people. We’re free. ALWAYS.
