Perhaps a bit of pre-Wilburys foreshadowing here. Any time you get two guys like this on stage together, the result can only be musical nirvana. This show is from the second leg of the True Confessions Tour.

3:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: All Things Must Pass by George Harrison

This was, without a doubt, a brilliant effort by Harrison, and it deserved all the critical accolades it received. You can learn more about this album by clicking on its image in the right sidebar.

7:00 p.m.    Down In N’Awlins: Various Artists

This is one sweet playlist that hasn’t been heard since Fat Tuesday back in February. Music is from BeauSoleil, Clifton Chenier, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, Tony Joe White, Fats Domino, Lucinda Williams, and many others. We hope you enjoy it.

Call It Simple Programming Sunday: We Pay Our Respects to Peter Green, Premier Blues Guitarist and Co-Founder of the Original Fleetwood Mac & Joni Mitchell Owns Our Album of The Week, July 26, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Today we pay our respects to Peter Green, co-founder of the Original Fleetwood Mac (they really are two quite different bands with and without Peter), and we keep the women front and center with Joni Mitchells Miles of Aisles.

11:00 a.m.    Album of The Week: Miles of Aisles by Joni Mitchell   NEW!

Released in 1974, this Joni Mitchell album is a collection of songs from the tour she did in support of her brilliant album, Court & Spark. Not only was it Mitchell’s very first live album, but it was her first tour with a backing band. In a brilliant move, she chose Tom Scott & The L.A. Express.

I saw this tour on its trip through Beantown. It was at the Music Hall when it really was the music hall, and it was — hands down — one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.

3:00 p.m.     Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Live at The Warehouse, New Orleans, January 30, 1970   NEW!

Peter Green and The Original Bluesy Fleetwood Mac opened The Warehouse with this show back in the day when they were a blues band and not a bunch of pop-rockers. Although he led a troubled life after he left the band, his contribution to the blues cannot be denied. He passed yesterday at the age of 73. Today, we pay him the respect he deserves.

I can’t fathom what the hell Americans are thinking. It matters not, though, because the rest of the world is listening in. We’ve always bee playing catch-up, no matter what they tell you about American Exceptionalism. It’s overrated.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday, Our Album of the Week is Back, and Happy 80th Birthday, Ringo! Tuesday, July 7, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Tuesday Bluesday is back and we’re heading down Louisiana way for today’s offering. And it’s Ringo’s 80th birthday, and we pay respects to him, an often underrated very important cog in the Beatles’ musical wheel.

A simple four-drum kit was all Ringo needed to make his sound. If you watched the video I posted earlier on the #BecomeUngovernable Radio Facebook page, you’ll see that his peers revere that sound and try to recapture it. Ringo didn’t need to steal the show. He drummed to the level that the song required. He was never bigger than the song itself.

Duane Allman was the leader of the greatest Southern rock band on the planet, but he was also a most wanted man on guitar. He played guitar for many, including Boz Scaggs, Laura Nyro, Derek & The Dominos, Clarence Carter, Wilson Pickett, and many others.

7:00 p.m.    Goin’ Home, A Tribute to Fats Domino: Various Artists

Here we have another legend and rock n’roll pioneer. A New Orleans native, Antoine “Fats” Domino sold 65 million records during his career. Between 1955 and 1960, Fats had eleven top ten hits. He was quiet and humble, avoiding the limelight. This, no doubt, contributed to the fact that he is often overlooked.

10:00 a.m.   Album of The Week: Adieu False Heart, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy   NEW!

Nobody can ever accuse Linda Ronstadt of resting on her laurels. She was always in pursuit of the next musical adventure. The absolute best thing about Ronstadt — at least for her true fans — was that she refused to have her music defined by anybody. To put it bluntly, she sang because she loved singing.

This album was released on July 25, 2006. It would be Ronstadt’s last studio album before her retirement in 2011, and her revelation about having Parkinson’s Disease. Her musical partner is the amazing Ann Savoy, a Cajun music singer with a band called The Magolia Sisters. Ronstadt is technically a soprano; Savoy an alto. They had made duets before for a Cajun tribute album. Here, they unite as The Zozo Sisters, and the result is stunning.

Absolute Fact: Linda Ronstadt’s ultimate desire was to be part of an all-girl band. Those were the kinds of projects she sought out for herself.

I find it hard to believe that people wouldn’t know Dr. John (aka, the Nitetripper) a man whose music defied labels by combining blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, funk and rock n’ roll.

3:00 p.m.    Badfinger Live at the BBC 1972-1973   NEW!

Here I am in 2020, and I’m still a big-time Badfinger fan. This was, simply put, a band that made some great music. Had they not been screwed over by their manager, the sky was the limit (in the immortal words of Tom Petty).

6:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: The Band by The Band

The Band is a thing of beauty. There is nothing bad in their music catalogue, and they have withstood the test of time.

We’re working our way through the full tour of Europe ’72.  We did do Wembley last week, but that was from April 7. The beauty of The Dead is that they never played the same show twice on a tour.

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re heading for Fat Tuesday as we begin our week-long tribute to the music and legends of New Orleans! And I  might add that we have a pretty great new Album of the Week.

Heralded as the best Cajun band ever, with David Doucet at the epicenter. BeauSoleil plays music rooted in the traditional folk tunes of the Cajuns and Creoles of Louisiana.

7:00 p.m.       Album of the Week: The Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1

Released in 1988, and thus began a magical journey indeed for all of us with the Wilburys: Spike (George Harrison), Clayton (Jeff Lynne), Muddy (Tom Petty), Boo (Bob Dylan) and Lefty Jr. (Roy Orbison; named posthumously). There has not been another supergroup like it. There may not ever be.

This week begins a musical experience that extends far beyond the Mardi Gras, so be sure to tune us in!
