Good morning, musicologists. What were you listening to on the radio during the Summer of Love? We begin our farewell to summertime today with just such a playlist culled from radio stations across the country.

Here’s your Finally Friday musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Summer of Love Countdown: Various Artists

We kick off the day with our ‘Summer of Love Countdown’ playlist. Contrary to popular (and misinformed) opinion, this was during the summer of 1967, not 1969, my friends. We’ve culled the best songs being played across the nation during that time from artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Association, The Rascals, Bobbie Gentry, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Spanky & Our Gang, The Hollies, Petula Clark, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Rivers, The Box Tops, Procol Harum, Scott McKenzie, The Grass Roots, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Paul Revere & The Raiders and more!

4:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, July 4, 1971

We tune in this afternoon to four guys from Berkeley, CA who sounded like they came straight out of the Louisiana bayou. CCR was a spectacular band whose music has stood the test of time.

8:00 p.m. Carly Simon Live at Grand Central Station, New York, NY, April 2, 1995

This impromptu performance was the idea of Jackie Kennedy Onassis to commemorate their friendship and to address Simon’s stage fright problem. April 2, 1995, was her first live performance in 14 years, where she and her band performed songs for unsuspecting commuters in the main terminal.

Once again, we’re here and we’re completely free of charge. There’s also no commercial advertising. See for yourselves. The button is below, my friends.

Thursday Brings Our Big, Wide Open Stream For 24 Uninterrupted Hours, On August 21, 2025

Good morning, music lovers! Today is a big, wide Open Stream day where The Music Mermaid is in random control mode. Who knows what she’s going to do? Stick around and find out!

The Sixties are indeed back at this radio station!

Here’s your midweek musical lineup!

9:00 a.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

Yeah, The Sixties never left as far as I’m concerned. You’ll hear the timeless music of The Beatles, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Joe Cocker, Little Eva, Simon & Garfunkel, The Everly Brothers, The Searchers, Dusty Springfield, The Drifters, The Dave Clark Five, Johnny Rivers, Bob Dylan, The Animals, Petula Clark, The Rolling Stones, Procol Harum, The Turtles, Del Shannon, The Temptations, James Brown, Fontella Bass, Blues Image, Booker T & the MGs, The Four Tops, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Left Banke, Fats Domino, and more!

I am actually thrilled that I found this because I was at this show and it was one fantastic performance under the stars at one of the most amazing music venues on the planet.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Shawn Colvin

We close out the programming with one of the greats, singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin.

As usual, we’re here 24/7 playing the best music on the planet uninterrupted with commercials and DJs who don’t know when to shut their word holes. The button is below:

We’ve Got a Great Monday With Our New ‘Flower Power’ Playlist, Live Todd Rundgren, and a Talking Heads ‘Spotlight’ Feature, On August 18, 2025

Happy Monday! We’re kicking off the week with some great playlists on tap, including our new ‘Flower Power’ offering. Then it’s live Todd Rundgren, and a Talking Heads ‘Spotlight.’

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

I was reminiscing with a friend about spending the summers outside, laying around with our transistor radios and listening to WMEX. At that time AM radio was king and those stations played the absolute best music. Then we started on about the songs we remember, and a playlist was born. It features Donovan, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Beatles, The Five Man Electrical Band, Three Dog Night, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, The Band, Bob Dylan, Brewer & Shipley, The Mamas & Papas, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Don McLean, Oliver, and more!

4:00 p.m. Todd Rundgren Live at The Electric Ballroom, Milwaukee, WI, October 23, 1978

Ah, yes, Todd Rundgren. I damned near wore out the grooves of Something, Anything back in the day. Love this guy, and we’re working on a ‘Spotlight’ feature for him now.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Talking Heads

We close out the programming with Talking Heads ‘In the Spotlight.’ We focus mostly on bands from the sixties and seventies here, but this is one of those bands who fit nicely into our “exceptions” rule. One of the best.

We’re back on Monday, and that means the return of the work week. But hey, it doesn’t have to be all that bad when you’ve got the best music on the planet right in front of you. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. See for yourselves. The Button is below!
