Got Those Post-Turkey Blues? We’ve Got Some Great Musical Programming Today Designed to Make You Smile, Friday, November 26, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and we’re here to make you feel even more thankful with great musical programming at the end of the work week.

Today we give you the music that inspired this station!

Here’s today’s programming:

11:00 a.m. #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Yeah. Today we give you all the reasons we started this radio station in one great EP. In all honesty, there are those who came after these artists who are also very much part of this station’s DNA as well, but these are the people who gave me (personally) my own music after years of listening to my sisters’ music. These folks also musically represented the times in which they lived. You will hear Barry McGuire, the Temptations, CSNY, Edwin Starr, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Chambers Brothers, Buffalo Springfield, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Peter Tosh, The Byrds, Donovan, Joan Baez The Association, The Band, Arlo Guthrie, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Bill Withers

Everyone knows Lean On Me, Ain’t No Sunshine, and Use Me for sure. Bill Withers was that guy. A great singer-songwriter who had an amazing number of hits in a relatively short fifteen-year career. Today we put that guy, his hits, and more In the Spotlight.

Tune us in and get that L-tryptophan out of your system. It’s wake-up time and the music is on 24/7. Before, in between, and after our programming, we are circulating the biggest cache of music anywhere all for free. No kidding. No strings. No fucking lie.

Sunday Brings Our New Album of The Week by The Flying Burrito Brothers and Our Original Sixties Rotation, November 7, 2021

Good Morning, Sixties Lovers! This is our day. We give you a great new Album of The Week and dust off our Original Sixties Rotation this afternoon. Read on!

Five hours of original sixties music kicks in at mid-afternoon!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Gilded Palace of Sin by The Flying Burrito Brothers NEW!

There have been many players in the evolution of what has come to be known as country-rock. This 1969 release, the first from The Flying Burrito Brothers, continued the work of two of the most notable musicians in this process, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, both veterans of The Byrds (who were also players). These guys married country to other forms of popular music, like gospel, soul, and psychedelic rock, and it’s all on display here in this great new Album of The Week.

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This one is due for an update soon, but it remains formidable as it is, as this first sixties EP focuses on early-to-mid music of the great generation. You’ll hear Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Drifters, Fats Domino, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Buddy Holly, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, The Band, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, The Yardbirds, The Searchers, The Rolling Stones, Donovan, and more!

Sunday is a day of rest, so go ahead and take yourself some rest. Kick back and tune us in. We’ll keep you aurally pleased for hours here. In fact, 24/7 to be precise. At no cost whatsoever to you. Hey, what else could you ask for as we end Daylight Savings time here.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA, February 26, 1977

We’ve Got A Simple All-Brit Sunday On Tap With Elton John’s Album of The Week and ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, October 24, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! If you loved the musical British Invasion this is your day. Not only do we have our EP ‘The British Are Coming’ this afternoon, but we kick the festivities off with Elton John and our AOW.

This great EP starts at 3:00 p.m. EST!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Elton John by Elton John NEW!

I personally have a love-hate relationship with EJ, preferring his earlier works to the stuff he made later in his career. When you begin a long-term run in Vegas, you know it’s time to hang them up. I continue to believe this is one of Elton John’s finest albums, if not his absolute best. I have liked various songs here and there since the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, but nothing has knocked my socks off since then. Regardless, this album belongs on our Album of The Week radar without a doubt.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

Serendipity has once again found its way into my off-the-cuff programming and given us an All-British Sunday. That can only mean good things. During this EP, you’ll hear The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Zombies, The Hollies, Yes, The Animals, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Kinks, The Dave Clark Five, Lulu, Petula Clark, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees, The Yardbirds, Faces, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, Dusty Springfield, and many more!

As always, it’s a great day to tune us in. We’re totally free, just like your Sunday should be, so why not take advantage of it. And we’re not just free and without strings on Sundays. We’re like this every day. For us, it’s all about the music.

It’s Mid-Week and We Have a Brand New EP Coming Your Way Plus Some ‘Live’ Little Feat, Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Good Morning, Psychedelic Music Lovers (and that would definitely be me). The Psychedelic Express is rolling your way and is our latest playlist to move into EP territory!

The Psychedelic Express debuts as our latest EP today!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists UPDATED AND EXPANDED!

We’ve gone from just under two hours of great psychedelic music to just under five hours of uninterrupted mind-bending music. You’ll hear the Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, The Animals, Eric Burdon & War, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Doors, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Rogers & The First Edition (yes, that Kenny Rogers), Yes, Vanilla Fudge, Mudcrutch, Tommy James & The Shondells, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cream, Grateful Dead, Procol Harum, Blues Image, Donovan, The Byrds, Blind Faith, The Chambers Brothers, Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground, and many more!

This particular EP set list will be on this blog under the Playlist tab prior to airing! Just scroll to the bottom.

7:00 p.m. Little Feat Live at Lisner Auditorium, Washington, D.C., August 18, 1977

We close out today’s programming with undoubtedly one of our favorite bands on the planet in Little Feat. Just as The Grateful Dead isn’t THE Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia, Little Feat isn’t THE Little Feat without Lowell George.

Before, in between, and after we have that great wide Open Stream with the Music Mermaid calling the shots. You cannot go wrong. No interruptions. No commercials. No chatty DJ’s who want to tell you about their lives. Just great music 24/7. Free.

Monday, Monday With Jackson Browne, Some Live Flying Burrito Brothers, and That Sweet Soul Sound, October 11, 2021

It’s Monday all over again, and someone here though it would be a good idea to run The Boston Marathon on Columbus Day and insult the Indigenous People a little more. Welcome to Boston. But nevertheless, we have some great music for you here in The Mermaid Lounge.

The Shirelles, a great sixties girl band you’ll hear later today.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jackson Browne

This past Saturday was not only John Lennon’s birthday, but it was also Jackson Browne’s. And Jackson Browne is a singer-songwriter legend in these parts. Today, we give Jackson a turn In The Spotlight.

3:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at The Palomino, North Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969

Here we have one of the pioneers of country-rock recorded during a Monday night residency in the year 1969. The brothers play a great batch of songs, some from their debut album and some not. Keep in mind that this was recorded in 1969.

7:00 p.m. That Sweet Soul Sound: Various Artists

Consider this just a bit of a preview of what we’ll be featuring this coming Sunday when we give you our soul and R & B long player. You’ll hear The Shirelles, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ann Peebles, The Ronettes, Otis Reading, Ray Charles, Ben E. King, Jimmy Ruffin, Fontella Bass, Irma Thomas, The Staple Singers, The Temptations, The Marvelettes, Jackie Wilson, Booker T. & The MGs, Wicked Wilson Pickett, and many more!

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and That Brings the Extended-Play ORIGINAL Sixties Rotation Along With Our New Album of The Week From Valerie Carter, October 3, 2021

Good Morning, Music Aficionados everywhere! Here we are with another Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and we’ve got our usual great programming situation going here.

Valerie Carter was way more than just a pretty face. As Jackson Browne sang of her, “That Girl Could Sing.” See for yourself today.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Just A Stone’s Throw Away by Valerie Carter NEW!

For those who do not know Valerie Carter, this album is a great way to start that process. It is so hard to categorize this album (her debut album). It’s a little bit folk, it’s a little bit country, it’s got some jazz moments and it’s a lot of R & B and funk. Carter has an amazing voice that can handle it all. Just A Stone’s Throw was produced by Lowell George (Little Feat), George Massenburg, and Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire). It featured musicians like Jackson Browne, Bob Glaub, Herb Pederson, John Sebastion and literally all of Little Feat. Her back-up singers included Linda Ronstadt, Deniece Williams, Herb Pederson, Lowell George, and Maurice White. Yeah, you’ve got all week to tune it in, but why wait?

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

We have two massive sixties rotation EP’s, and this is the first from the early sixties to the mid-sixties. There’s some overlap in artists from one to the other, but none of the songs overlap. In this EP, you’ll hear from a pretty eclectic line-up that includes Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Dave Clark Five, Petula Clark, Buddy Holly, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Rolling Stones and more!

You cannot go wrong with #BecomeUngovernable Radio. We’re free. We ask for no personal information and no credit card is required because there are no “subscription” fees. We do not accept advertising, so there aren’t any commercials to interrupt the flow of music. This is a good day to join your friends from around the world, including Poland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, France, Portugal, The Russian Federation, and yes, the United States.
