Not to be confused with the Bootleg Series, which we ran last month. This particular edition of Wilbury Wednesday is composed of Volumes 1 and 3 (hint: They never made a Volume 2), and it also tosses in a few remixes, bonus tracks and extended versions of their two most well-known hits. The Bootleg Series is another thing entirely with special sessions and the like. We will be running that again next go-around.

John Dawson Winter III is one of our favorite bluesmen here in The Mermaid Lounge. He’s got his own high-energy blues-rock style. Although not a pure bluesman, Johnny Winter was sought out by other bluesmen and jammed with many, including Muddy Waters, Roy Head and the Traits, Mike Bloomfield, Willie Dixon, and Big Walter Horton. Winter was groundbreaking in many ways and was recognized as one of the best guitarists in the business. You can learn more about him right here. This guy’s name doesn’t always roll off people’s tongue, but it should. Fogelberg was a singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist who, for me, provided an oasis in the dry desert of the eighties music scene (absolutely not my favorite generation of music), along with a few others, most notably Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. People can debate an artist’s “best” album all day and night because that decision is subjective and personal. For me Souvenirs was not only his best album, but one of the best albums ever put on vinyl.
Starting mid-afternoon, we’ll open each hour with three-in-a-row from one artist.

The Beatles touched ground here on my tenth birthday. Up until that point, I had been listening to my sisters’ music pretty regularly. When the Beatles landed, it changed everything for me. In fact, it changed everything in the house because my sisters became fans pretty quickly as well. This is the other half of our House Band duo, and over the next few days we’ll be playing their stuff in chronological order.
Come on, people. Join your friends. Wednesday always seems to be fairly active early in the morning: Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Russian Federation, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and the UK are on so far. These people know good music when they hear it.
