We Close The Work Week (Thankfully) With Badfinger, Cream, and a Dose of The All-Girl Revue, Friday, September 3, 2021

Good Morning, Music People! It’s the end of the work week again (thankfully) and we’ve got some really great stuff coming your way from The Mermaid Lounge today!

The women of rock n’ roll bring up the rear this evening

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Badfinger Live at The BBC (1972-1973)

We consider Badfinger a highly underrated band. They were pioneers in the ‘power pop’ genre, and were the one bona fide band with real star power signed by The Beatles’ Apple Records. They are the architects of one of my favorite songs of all time, Baby Blue. I remember binge watching Breaking Bad and when they closed the series with that song, I thought it was the perfect choice. Today we have them live at the BBC.

3:00 p.m. Acid: The Lost Cream Tapes

In the middle of the afternoon, we’ve got some great “lost” music that was just released to the public in this decade but was actually recorded back in 1967. This selection is pretty much all over the place with some unreleased music, some great studio jams (which we can only describe as hooch induced at this point), and even a couple of commercial recordings for Falstaff beer. Is that shit even still around?

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume 5: Various Artists

As you well know, we have a particular commitment to the women of popular music, and we continue that tradition today with volume five of our All-Girl Revue. In this volume you’ll hear Joni Mitchell, Lulu, Petula Clark, Chi Coltrane, Janis Joplin, Tracy Chapman, Maria Muldaur, Karla Bonoff, Marcia Ball, Wendy Waldman, Valerie Carter, Judy Collins, Aretha Franklin, Carlene Carter, and many more!

Come on, kids. Get with the program. We have listeners from all around the globe online with us every single day. It’s time to join the party, and it won’t cost you a penny. What the hell are you waiting for?

Mid-Week Brings Our Rock, Blues & Ballads Playlist, Creedence Clearwater Revival In The Spotlight, and a Tribute To The Great Charlie Watts, Wednesday, August 25, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got a great line-up today as we play tribute to Charlie Watts, a Rolling Stone from beginning to end, and celebrate his life and music.

In tribute to the steady beat of Charlie Watts, we put The Stones In the Spotlight tonight.

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. Rock, Blues & Ballads, Volume One: Various Artists

This one gives us a little bit of everything. It’s just a great collection of individual songs by some of the best singers, songwriters and musical artists on the planet. You’ll hear from Warren Zevon, J.J. Cale, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Steve Winwood, Long John Baldry, Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Dusty Springfield, Eric Clapton and many more!

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Four guys from Berkeley, California, made some of the best damned rock n’ roll and swamp music on the planet. Someone once said they were overrated. I told that guy to shut the fuck up.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Rolling Stones

Charlie Watts, the steady heart beat of the Stones, passed into that great musical heaven in the sky yesterday. He was a constant from beginning to end with the Stones; all he ever wanted to do was play the drums and he did it with style. Tonight we put The Rolling Stones In the Spotlight.

Why you should tune us in (besides the greatest music on the planet): We’re totally free, we do not accept commercials, therefore your music is uninterrupted all day and all night, we do not ask for personal information, and we do not track you. Neither do we purchase music from either Amazon or Apple. Get it?

It’s Monday Again With The Band, Little Richard In the Spotlight, and Your DJ’s Favorite R & B Stream, June 28, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Here we are again beginning another week. Monday has rolled around again, much too quickly I must admit.

The Band was one of the finest damned bands on this (or any) planet.

Here’s your Moan-Day line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, New Jersey, July 20, 1976

They went from Bob Dylan’s “back-up” band to being one of the finest, most respected musical entities on this or any planet. The Band was a wonderful thing. They are legendary for a reason.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Little Richard

We not only play our favorites, but those who were rock n’ roll pioneers…those who inspired and delighted our favorites. Little Richard was a force, and he certainly is one of those early pioneers.

7:00 p.m. DJ’s Choice: My Favorite R & B Stream, Various Artists

One night I sat down and put this together off the top of my head. You’ll hear Al Green, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, The Four Tops, The Staple Singers, Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & The MGs, James Brown, Wicked Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, Jimmy Ruffin, and more!

It’s too damned hot to go out today. Why not sit back, relax and tune us in? Believe me. You cannot go wrong.
