10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The DuPont Gymnasium, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, May 7, 1970

A rare repeat performance, but this one hasn’t been heard in these parts since summer 2020, so it’s like brand new. But then again, isn’t every one of their performances like brand new?

Here we are again, weekenders. It’s shaping up to be a good one, so this is the perfect day to tune us in for a little bit of a different approach to music on the airwaves.

We Close Out Women’s Week With Our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, and The Traveling Wilburys Have The Album of The Week, Sunday, March 13, 2022

Good Morning, Gang! We’re running a bit early today, and I’m somewhat behind the eight ball. We’re closing out Women’s Week in fine style with our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP and it’s streaming right now!

Here’s today’s musical magic:

7:00 a.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

We close with the grand kahuna of our extended playlists as you’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Dusty Springfield, Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Petula Clark, Cilla Black, Irma Thomas, Laura Nyro, Aretha Franklin, Joan Baez, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Maria Muldaur, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Wendy Waldman, Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, The Ronettes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Norah Jones, Phoebe Snow, and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: The Traveling Wilburys, Volume 3 NEW!

There was actually never a second volume, adding to the offbeat mystique of this great supergroup. Another great selection of songs from the guys who also actually never traveled together (as in performing on the road). They were just friends having a great time playing music together, and it showed.

Tune us in. We’ve got Bolivia and Chile both joining the fun this morning. You could be having some fun here too. Because it is absolutely effortless and free. Just push that button below.

We’re At Mid-Month, and The Women of Music are Back For An Extended Visit! We’ve Also Got Our New Album of The Week, Sunday, January 16, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! The Women of Music are back in the featured role today with our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, and our critically-acclaimed Album of The Week.

It’s Ladies Day Out!

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Raising Sand by Alison Krauss & Robert Plant NEW!

This great album was a collaborative effort between what many consider to be two unlikely vocalists in Alison Krauss (Union Station) and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, he hand-picked all the songs. Released in October 2007, Raising Sand won Album of The Year at the 2008 Americana Music Awards, and at the 2009 Grammy Awards. I have to tell you that I personally have a love-hate relationship with Led Zeppelin most of the time (I like some of their stuff; but not all) and have been ambivalent about Robert Plant overall. But this album? It’s a major winner.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

The chicks are back in charge of The Mermaid Lounge today, and they make our siren’s job easy. You’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Susan Tedeschi, Phoebe Snow, Nicolette Larson, Sheryl Crowe, Carly Simon, Chrissie Hynde, Petula Clark, Laura Nyro, Cilla Black, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Maria Muldaur, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Wendy Waldman, Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, The Ronettes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Nora Jones, Valerie Carter and more!

It’s Sunday. Even the Big Guy (you know who that is) took today off. So, give us a break and tune us in. It’s effortless. Just pull up a tab and click the link below. No commercials. No endless chatter. No credit card required and no personal information sought. Honest.

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge With Our New AOW and The Women of Music Fully in Charge, December 19, 2021

Welcome to another Sunday in the Lounge. Today we have a vintage Album of The Week for you, and we have turned the musical reins over to the women of music. I don’t know a radio station that actually does any of that. We made a commitment to giving female artists a bigger voice. Take advantage of it.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Big Brother & The Holding Company by Big Brother & The Holding Company

This was the band’s debut album, released on August 23, 1967, with Janis Joplin as their main singer. It was recorded over a three-day stretch in December of 1966. After the band’s blowout success at the Monterey Pop festival in 1967, Columbia Records took over their contract and re-released the album with two additional songs and with Janis Joplin’s name on the front cover. Album reviews are mixed on this one, and we really don’t pay much attention to that stuff anyway. Regardless of the status of the album, it was the birth of Janis Joplin’s all too short, but oh so sweet, career.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

The ladies return to take you through the afternoon and evening, making it clear that they are not second class citizens on this station. You’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Carly Simon, Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Petula Clark, Laura Nyro, Cilla Black, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Maria Muldaur, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Wendy Waldman, Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, The Ronettes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Susan Tedeschi, Phoebe Snow, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Nicolette Larson, Norah Jones, and more!

It’s certainly a day of rest, unless you’re supporting capitalism during the holiday season. Personally, I think the gift of music is a wonderful thing. You can listen in, turn your friends on to us, and it won’t cost you a penny. Or them, for that matter. We don’t play the same music over and over and over. We don’t charge for our content. We do not run commercials. And we’re here for you 24/7. What more could you want in your stocking?

The Women of The Mermaid Lounge Take The Lead Today, and We Intro Our New Album of The Week, Sunday, November 21, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s our monthly extended tribute to the women of music today as we bring you our Ladies Day Out EP. We also intro a great, new album of the week.

These are just some of our favorite women you’ll hear from today!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Greatest Hits by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac NEW!

It’s rare that we choose a Greatest Hits album as our Album of The Week, but there are those moments in music when it must be done. For those who are only familiar with the current iteration of Fleetwood Mac, this is not how they began their career. During the sixties, when the band came to be, it was a British blues-rock band led by a great guitarist named Peter Green. His version of Fleetwood Mac remains our favorite here in the lounge. You can learn more about Peter Green here.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

Our Ladies Day Out EP is back to bring you five hours of exceptional music from Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, Phoebe Snow, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Irma Thomas, The Supremes, The Ronettes, Aretha Franklin, Ann Peebles, Alison Krauss, Maria Muldaur, Wendy Waldman, Marcia Ball, Tracy Nelson, Valerie Carter, Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, Carole King, Carly Simon, Etta James, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Stevie Nicks, and more!

It’s a great day to tune us in. Every day is a great day to tune us in. We really mean that. There is no way we can convince you with words. You’re just going to have to try it out. For free. And it will remain totally free if you come back. How’s that?

Saturday Brings Our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, Our Final Airing of “Full Moon Fever” by Tom Petty, and LIVE DEAD Later, October 23, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge as we turn the beginning of the day over to the women of music.

It’s ‘Ladies Day Out’ starting at 11:00 a.m.

Here’s Saturday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

The ladies kick it all off today as we go through a magical musical journey of rock, country, soul, R & B. the blues, folk, and many other genres with Linda Ronstadt, Dusty Springfield, Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Bonnie Raitt, Cilla Black, Ann Peebles, The Supremes, Emmylou Harris, Maria Muldaur, Tracy Chapman, Eva Cassidy, Wendy Waldman, Lulu, Joan Baez, Melissa Etheridge, Dolly Parton, Valerie Carter, Carole King, Carla Thomas and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty FINAL AIRING!

Today we bid a fond farewell to Tom Petty’s first solo album, although he did have help from many of his bandmates in both The Heartbreakers and in The Traveling Wilburys. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection for you.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Cape Cod Coliseum, South Yarmouth, MA, October 27, 1979 NEW!

Another one from the vault from the world’s ultimate road jam band. This one’s from the Cape Cod Coliseum, a venue which many claims feels like it’s “in the middle of nowhere.” Funny, I don’t remember that. Then again, I don’t remember a lot about my trips to the Cape Cod Coliseum, to be honest.

Great day to tune us in, as always. I know I say that every day, but I also mean it every day. Hey, look, where else do you get to try something out for free. In my experience, new “experiences” always seem to require a credit card with the caveat that you can cancel at any time. Well, that’s not the way we do business around here. In fact, we’re not “doing business” around here. We’re playing music. Period. End of story.

Good Morning, Music Lovers Everywhere! It’s our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge as we turn a good portion of the day over to the women of music.

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons FINAL AIRING!

We bid a most fond farewell to our Album of The Week this week. Gram Parsons married country with rock n’ roll in the same way that Dylan married folk to rock. He was a pioneer who never lived long enough to enjoy his legacy. But we certainly have.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Springfield Civic Center, Springfield, MA, March 28, 1973 NEW!

Another one from the vault from the world’s ultimate jam band. This one comes from the Springfield Civic Center, and I’m proud to say I was there.

It’s a great day here on #BecomeUngovernable Radio and we do hope you’ll join our friends from around the world and tune us in. Today we have lots of listeners from Germany, Belgium, France, the UK, Sweden, The Faroe Islands, Israel, Italy, Canada, and the Russian Federation. That’s because they have great musical taste.

Today It’s All About The Ladies, Plus McCartney’s CHOBA B CCCP is Our AOW, Sunday, July 18, 2021

Good Morning, Kids! It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and it’s a total mermaid kind of day starting mid-afternoon. Before that, though, we’ve got a great Album of The Week for you.

Ladies Day Out is up at 3:00 p.m.!

Here’s Sunday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: CHOBA B CCCP by Paul McCartney NEW!

The album title translates to Back in The U.S.S.R. and is the seventh studio album by Paul McCartney. It was released in October 1988 exclusively in Russia. It was released worldwide in 1991. The album is live in-studio covers of some of the great rock n’ roll hits that inspired so many artists of the sixties, including The Beatles, The Stones, and many others. This is a great album, proving that McCartney can rock with the best of them. The man’s career has spanned six decades now, and he’s still going. He’s what we call a living legend.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

The ladies take over for five uninterrupted hours of bliss at mid-afternoon. This extended playlist features Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Aretha Franklin, Ann Peebles, Carla Thomas. Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Irma Thomas, Maria Muldaur, Valerie Carter, Nicolette Larson, Rosanne Cash, Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, Etta James, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Supremes, Norah Jones, The Ronettes, Joan Baez, and many more.

Before, in between, and after it’s our usual wide Open Stream rotating more than 27,000 songs at the whim of The Music Mermaid. Tune us in.
