Back to The Weekly Grind, But We’ve Got The Music To Help You Out: The Second Airing of Singer-Songwriter Lucinda Williams, The Supremes In the Spotlight, and a Brand New Playlist Tonight, Monday, November 7, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Have you ever seen anything roll around as fast as a Monday? The good news is that we’ve got the music here to help you through. Just lock that office door and pull up a tab. If you’re lucky enough to work at home, even better!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Lucinda Williams

Lucinda Williams is back for her second airing as our featured Singer-Songwriter this week. We’ll have one more airing a bit later this week as well. Tune her in. She was a friend of Tom’s and he rightfully championed her as someone who must be heard. He could recognize a great songwriter. Lucinda Williams also opened for him on several tours, including his very last one, the 40th Anniversary Tour.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Supremes

There were bands that were instrumental in developing the Motown sound. Diana Ross & The Supremes were certainly one of those acts. We’ve got them In the Spotlight this afternoon.

7:00 p.m. More Cowbell, Please: Various Artists NEW!

We carry you in to this evening with a brand new multi-artist playlist for all percussion lovers out there. This one is all about the cowbell. It opens with what we consider the finest example of a song where the cowbell reigns supreme. You will hear from The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, the Alan Parsons Project, Bob Dylan, Harry Nilsson, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Move, Elton John, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Electric Light Orchestra, Joe Walsh, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Journey. Stephen Stills, Grateful Dead, J. Geils Band, Queen, Steely Dan, Little Feat, The Turtles and more!

Come on, people, let’s start the day off on a fine note by joining us and your friends around the world here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got a great lineup for you today and we won’t cost you one cent. No lie. No surprises. No bullshit.

It’s the End of the Work Week! We’ve Got Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP and Some ‘Live’ Doors Later From the Isle of Wight, Friday, November 4, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We are here and it is Friday in The Mermaid Lounge! We’ve got our EP focused on the night time today: References to the night in the title, lyrics or both! We’ve also got some ‘live’ Doors coming up.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

We’ve got today’s EP which is focused on night time (which means our EP focused on morning can’t be far behind). You’ll hear Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt and more!

7:00 p.m. The Doors Live at The Isle of Wight Festival, Afton Down, Newport, England, August 30, 1970

The Lizard King and his band tear it up at the Isle of Wight Festival just about a year before his death. I always marvel at the body of work they were able to achieve in just four short years.

C’mon, people. It’s Friday and there’s nothing like some great background music to help get you through the day in a better mental state. We are just the ticket. We’re free. We’re on 24/7 (not just when there’s programming). And we’re all about music, not chat. We also have a strict rule against commercial advertising. We simply don’t take it.

Whew! It’s a Crazy Saturday Here With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, Our AOW, Van Morrison ‘live’ in Belfast, and LIVE DEAD! October 8, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have a great line-up for you today. It’s another of those Grand Central Music Saturdays here, but we till give you far more Open Stream than anything else!

We’ve got that Travelin’ Jones going on early this morning!

Here’s your musical journey:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

The traveling life has always been glamorized in music. Today, you’ll hear from Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Eagles, The Doors, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Mudcrutch, Joan Bae, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Odessy and Oracle by The Zombies FINAL AIRING!

It’s the swan song for this album today; our final airing of this great, long-underappreciated effort by The Zombies. But tomorrow morning we’ve got another great trip down Psychedelic Lane planned.

7:00 p.m. Van Morrison Live at The Grand Opera Houe, Belfast, Ireland, March 11 & 12, 1983

Van the Man recorded live in Belfast over a two-night engagement. Not always the most personable man to spend money on, but an amazing singer-songwriter and talent nonetheless.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, November 7, 1969

Another soundboard recording from the worlds most popular jam band in a totally historical venue. A rare repeat here, but it has been a while. It’ll be like new.

I’ll be off soon on a mission of mercy and then to the flats for another day in the wonderful world of retail. My destiny awaits as you hang out here with The Music Mermaid. As you know, she has impeccable taste in music. Enjoy your day.

Today’s Musical Journey Includes Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and Some ‘Live’ Linda Ronstadt Later, Wednesday, September 7, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we’ve got the travelin’ jones with our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and Linda Ronstadt ‘live’ from Budokan in Japan.

We start the day at 10:00 a.m. with our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP!

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Songs about the road have always been great fodder for musicians and we’ve got a great extended playlist on that subject today! You’ll hear Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep At The Wheel, The Byrds, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan, March 3, 1979

It was one of those nights where I hadn’t yet decided on the second act for today. Then I saw Linda Ronstadt’s name trending on Twitter. Like many of her fans, I went into a panic. I was happy to find out that it was just an old interview where she skewered Rupert Murdoch…at a time where most of us hadn’t yet been exposed to what he was really about. She, however, was dating Jerry Brown at the time and was very much in tune. Needless to say, I was relieved. Therefore, you all have this great concert to go to tonight!

Life is full of risks. This is not one of them. This is a no-brainer. We play music all day and night, non-stop, completely free to the public. No. You cannot created “custom” playlists here. But that’s not what radio is all about. For me, the excitement came from wondering what song was coming next. No. You will not hear heavy metal, rap, hip-hop, disco or any related content here. We’re not trying to be all things to all people. But we’re totally free and we’ve got a 29,000-song catalogue at our fingertips, a ton of playlists and more coming. What’s not to love?

Today It’s The Music That Inspired The Station With Our House EP, Along With Carole King In the Spotlight, Wednesday, August 24, 2022

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House EP: Various Artists

It’s back again…the music that inspired the station. You’ll hear Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, Genesis, T. Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Carole King NEW!

Join us as we put a musical legend In the Spotlight tonight. It’s long overdue, but it’s finally here. One of the greatest singer-songwriters of her generation will close out the programming later today.

As always, we’ve got you covered 24/7 and we’re always totally free of charge. There are no surprises and no hidden charges. And we never, ever ask for your credit card or personal information. Your money is absolutely no good here.

We’re Full-On Friday With Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP and The Soul Sisters Bringing Up The Rear, August 5, 2022

Yes, it’s no lie: We’ve made it to Friday. It is upon us. And while some of us work Saturdays, there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel. What better way to deal with that than great music to get you there.

The Ladies of Soul take over The Mermaid Lounge tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

Morning and night are two concepts that musical artists spend a considerable amount of time on. Today’s EP covers the latter of the two. You will be treated to Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Patti Smith, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt and more!

7:00 p.m. The Soul Sisters, Volume 1: Various Artists

Yes, we do have a second volume on the “to do” list. I promise it will come sooner rather than later, but for now we give you Aretha Franklin, Martha & The Vandellas, Irma Thomas, Etta James, Mary Wells, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Little Eva, Carla Thomas, Kim Weston, The Ronettes, The Marvelettes, The Shirelles, Ann Peebles, The Staple Singers, Fontella Bass, Gladys Knight & The Pips and more!

Before, in between and after we continue on in the fine tradition of The Energizer Bunny. We run 24/7, not just when we have programing. The programming simply punctuates that great wide Open Stream with no commercial interruptions and at no charge to you. No lies. No strings. Just music.

It’ll Be a Better Monday With Mudcrutch Madness, Fats Domino, and Some ‘Live’ CCR Bringing Up the Rear, July 11, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We haven’t had a Mudcrutch Monday Madness for far too long now, so that’s how we’ll kick off the day, followed by Fats Domino In the Spotlight, and ‘live’ CCR later!

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. MUDCRUTCH MONDAY MADNESS!

Today’s madness is the full catalogue. Just over two hours of every song Mudcrutch ever made before they morphed into our House Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. This is the band that left Gainesville for L.A. all those years ago. In 2008, Petty would reunite the band with it’s original members, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Randall Marsh, and Tom Leadon, to great success.

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Fats Domino

The question remains: Did Fats Domino invent rock n’ roll? You know, nobody can say for sure. Rock n’ Roll had its own group of ‘founding parents’ as I like to call it, and surely Fats Domino is high up on that list. One thing is for sure, nobody can definitively say he wasn’t the first guy to play that music.

7:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, July 4, 1971

Speaking of bands with a unique sound, this band of brothers definitely qualifies. You instantly know who’s singing that song when you hear it. Four guys from Berkeley who sound like they just came out of the Bayou.

No doubt about it. Monday’s suck. Every week I’m eternally grateful that Sunday and Monday are my weekend days. Somehow, it makes the rest of the week go faster. I know. It’s all psychological, but it works for me. In the meantime, if you work somewhere where you can multitask, grab yourself some ear buds, pull up a tab, and tune us in. It’ll make Monday oh so tolerable.

It’s Midweek Once Again With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and a Long-Awaited Wilbury Wednesday Coming at You on July 6, 2022

Good Morning, Road Warriors! If you’re the traveling kind, then this day is perfect for you. We’ve not only got our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, but it’s a long-needed Wilbury Wednesday!

The Traveling Wilburys in the post-Roy Orbison timeframe

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Road music. That’s what we’ve got here from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Canned Heat, the Steve Miller Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep at The Wheel, The Byrds, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

7:00 p.m. WILBURY WEDNESDAY! The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

It has been far too long between Wilbury Wednesdays and we aim to rectify that little problem today. We’ve got it all here: rough cuts, alternate versions, special sessions, and the final product all rolled into one great playlist. One musical journey that should not be missed!

This is undoubtedly a most excellent day to choose this little station, particularly if you like to sit and daydream about getting out of this right-wing gulag. But that’s another story for another day. We’d love to have you join your friends from around the globe today. The first time will not be the last time.

We’re at Midweek With Our Second Volume of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ EP and New Live Little Feat Later, Wednesday, June 22, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Every day after today is one day closer to the weekend! We’ve got volume two of our sixties music EP for you today along with some brand new live Little Feat later.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

11:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two

This is the second half of our sixties rotation and is, for the most part, focused on the mid-to-late sixties, although I’m sure some earlier stuff has found its way in. You’ll hear music from The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Jimmy Cliff, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Zombies, Donovan, The Velvet Underground, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, and more!

7:00 p.m. Little Feat Live at Ultrasonic Studios, Hempstead, New York, April 10, 1973 NEW!

Tonight we’ve got Little Feat “live” in a studio setting, broadcast live on WLIR-fm. We realize that Little Feat carried on after Lowell George, but we here in The Mermaid Lounge feel the same way we feel about The Dead. Lowell George was the heart and soul of this band just as Jerry Garcia was the heart and soul of The Grateful Dead. Enjoy.

We’re at midweek and every day beyond this is a day closer to the weekend. We’re here every day 24/7 to help make getting there easier. Know what I mean? Good music goes a long way, and life is too damned short to listen to bad music. It’s even worse when you pay for it and have to listen to commercial advertising. There’s none of that shit here.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and The Dirty Knobs With Our Album of The Week, May 8, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers and Mothers everywhere! Today we celebrate Mother’s Day here in The Mermaid Lounge with our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP and a brand new Album of The Week!

Today we’ve got Travelin’ Fever, even though we’re going nowhere!

Here’s your Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of the Week: External Combustion by Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs NEW!

Today we have the second full outing of music from Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, and some of it sounds very Pettyesque. And that is always a good thing from our perspective. It’s also to be expected since some of the songs were written while Campbell was lead guitarist and co-songwriter with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. That’s not to say that Campbell and his gang aren’t their own band. They surely are, but the influence is unmistakable.

3:00 p.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

We bring back our Travelin’ Fever EP today. It’s starting to warm up here and people are getting the travelin’ bug. Pretty soon, I’ll be bitching about the heat because here in New England, we go from 50 to 80, according to next weekend’s predictions. But I digress, today you’ll hear Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Travelin’ Wilburys, Asleep at The Wheel, The Byrds, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

Sunday is a day of rest and it’s Mother’s Day to boot. Allow me to say again, ad nauseum, that it’s a great day to tune us in. We’ve got Germany, the UK, France, Greece, Faroe Islands, Russian Federation, Chile, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Texas and California on already this morning. Tune us in.
