We’re Weekenders! We’ve Got ‘Color My World,’ Paul Simon and Queen On Tap! It’s Saturday, October 19, 2024

Woke up this morning to a headline that Salem, Massachusetts has had 666K visitors so far this Halloween, a record number. I hope there are more coming. 666 is not a good number to be floating around on Halloweek. IYKYK. But we’re safe here in The Lounge!

Here’s your Saturday music:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Songs that include colors in the title, lyrics or both from the above pictured along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Donovan, Booker T & The MGs, Donovan, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams and more!

We play plenty of Paul Simon, but this is the first live performance we’ve aired. It will be one of as many as we can find (and we have more already in waiting).

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Queen

Here’s something we don’t play a lot of: Arena Rock, Glam Rock. Not our favorite genre here in The Lounge, but Queen is a bit different. They’ve made more good than bad, but we like early Queen and the days of Keep Yourself Alive and Killer Queen as opposed to what they later morphed into.

We’ve finally made it to the weekend. Not going to lie, going back to hardware hell after nine glorious days of vacation was more than tough, but it had to be done. We’re here and we’re totally free. And there’s no commercial advertising. The button is below.

It’s Songs About Colors, Volume Two of ‘The Summer of Love’ and Chuck Berry In The Spotlight, Saturday, July 20, 2024

Happy Birthday to Macca, John Prine Live in New York, and the ‘Color My World’ EP are On Tap for Monday, June 17, 2024

Good morning, McCartney lovers! We will be celebrating Sir Paul’s birthday all this week starting today, then it’s John Prine live at The Other End and our ‘Color My World’ EP gets an evening airing later.

Here’s your Monday musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

It’s Happy 82nd birthday to Paul McCartney (tomorrow) and we are celebrating throughout the week in a variety of ways, beginning with our Spotlight featuring songs from his days with The Beatles, with Wings and as a solo artist.

The late and great John Prine is certainly most remembered for his magnificent Angel For Montgomery, a composition that became Bonnie Raitt’s signature song. However, John Prine had a way with the twist of a phrase that few others did, often writing about the human condition with a bit of dry sarcasm. Tonight we have him live from what was once and then again, The Bitter End in New York. During this particular time, it was renamed The Other End.

7:00 p.m. Color My World: Various Artists

We close this day out with our five-hour collection of songs about colors in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Donovan, Booker T. and The MGs, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!

We’re In A Colorful Mood With a Nina Simone Spotlight and Some ‘Live’ Heartbreakers, Thursday, May 16, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to the downslide to the weekend. Today we begin with the ‘Color My World’ multi-artist EP, get into some Nina Simone and then Tom Petty and the band are live from Lucca, Italy.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

We open up with Open Stream with a Theme; that’s how we view our EP’s. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Donovan, Booker T. & The MGs, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Nina Simone

Was there anything Nina Simone could not do? She was a singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger and civil rights activist. Her style encompassed many genres, including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R & B and pop. Today she’s in our Spotlight.

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

We go back to 2012 for this great Heartbreakers show from Lucca, Italy.

Once again, the mantra: We’re here 24/7 at no cost to the listening public (and we’re worldwide) and with no interruptions from commercial advertising. Nope. The button’s below.

We’re at Midweek With ‘Color My World’, a Dusty Springfield Spotlight & a McCartney Tokyo Show, Wednesday, April 17, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We’re already at midweek and we’ve got a great lineup, including a Dusty Springfield Spotlight feature and a show from McCartney’s 1993 World Tour.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

First, however, we start out with colors in the title, lyrics or both with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Donovan, Booker T & The MG’s, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Dusty Springfield

The mezzo-soprano master of blue-eyed soul was more than all that. She was another great singer who refused to be defined by any one style.

We close out the programming later with a trip to Tokyo with Paul McCartney on his 1993 World Tour.

It’s ‘Color My World’, Joni Mitchell’s AOW, and Carly Simon, Thursday, March 14, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! I’m still lost in the COVID fog, so we are running a bit behind, but better late than never. We’ve got a full slate of good stuff for you today!

Here’s your Thursday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Ah, yes, we return again to colors in song titles, lyrics or both with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Donovan, Booker T. & The MG’s, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Court & Spark by Joni Mitchell

We’re back with this masterpiece of an album. It could not be any more perfect than it already is, and it has more than stood the test of time.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Carly Simon

We continue on with Women’s (Music) History Month with a Carly Simon spotlight.

Tune us in, folks. We’re here 24/7 totally free of charge for your listening pleasure. We give you music uninterrupted by commercial advertising. Just do it.

On Friday It’s The Band ‘Live’ in Asbury Park, Elvis Costello, John Prine and Joni ‘Live’ in Cali, February 16, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We have a busy Friday on tap for you all today with a great collection of artists sprinkeled into our big, wide Open Stream.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Elvis Costello FINAL AIRING!

Elvis Costello takes his final turn as this week’s featured singer-songwriter. We’ll have a new artist for you on Monday.

12:00 p.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, NJ, July 20, 1976

The Band is very simply one of the best ever bands on the popular music scene. They started as Bob Dylan’s back-up band and became one of the most influential musical entities of their time. If we added a new House Band, it would be these guys.

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Prine

We’re dusting this baby off as we have been remiss. Mr. Prine is one fine singer-songwriter and a man who is most respected by his peers. He always had a unique outlook on life and his wry and sometimes sarcastic viewpoints were part of his charm.

8:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at the Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara, CA, September 9, 1979

We close things out by taking a trip back with Joni Mitchell to her 1979 Shadows and Light Tour. I was lucky enough to see that tour as it passed through Boston.

We have a great lineup today as we toy with expanding programming and, perhaps, even into the wee hours of the morning. It’s a work in progress. One thing that will not change, however, is the fact that we are totally free 24/7 with no commercial interruptions.

It’s Valentines Day and Love Is In the Air, Along With Elvis Costello as Our Singer-Songwriter, Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! Yes, it’s Valentines Day once again. Time for love (and, of course, loss), and we’re giving you both sides of the coin today!

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. True Love Always: Various Artists

Yes, we start out with the romantic side of the coin first with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Mamas & The Papas, The Band, Delaney & Bonnie, Swing Out Sister, Boz Scaggs, Guy Clark, Tom Rush, The Hollies, Neil Young, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m.  Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Elvis Costello

Another Elvis drops by The Lounge today on his second spin as our featured singer-songwriter for the week.

8:00 p.m.  Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists

Then, there’s the other side of the “love” coin. You’ll hear Carole King, Elvis Presley, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Warren Zevon, Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens, The Pretenders, Them, Jackson Browne, John Prine and more!

We’re on point and in tune today, and love is in the air. We’re on 24/7 with no commercial interruption and at no cost to the general public. No lie. No bait and switch. We’re all about the music. See for yourself. Use the button below.

It’s a Busy Monday With ‘Working Songs’, Rickie Lee Jones, Van Morrison and Elvis Costello, February 12, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! I was a bit overexuberant last night and went off the ledge on scheduling today. (We’re actually exploring a bit of late-night programming for our overseas listeners!)

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Working Songs: Various Artists

Quite appropriate on a Monday morning as the work week begins. You’ll hear from The Staple Singers, Van Morrison, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Lennon, Slim Harpo, Neil Young, Jim Croce, Little Feat, Bob Dylan, Jesse Winchester, Maria Muldaur and more!

4:00 p.m.  In The Spotlight: The Music of Rickie Lee Jones

Over five decades this great singer-songwriter has recorded songs in a variety genres, including jazz, rock, pop, soul and R&B.

7:00 p.m.  Van Morrison Live at The Bottom Line, New York, NY, November 1, 1978

Van the Man is a staple around these parts. We haven’t heard him for a while, so we thought it was about time we break him out of mothballs.

Here we have another great Elvis, but it’s Costello. You can love him or hate him, but the man broke barriers and is a hell of a singer-songwriter. He’s one of the very few of his generation that I actually listen to.

Another Monday in paradise…at least for me since my “weekends” fall on Sunday-Monday. We’ve got some great music today and we’re toying with late-night programming. We’ll see how it goes. Our overnight listeners are generally outside the U.S. Give us a listen.

It’s Simply Sunday With ELO’s “Eldorado” as Our AOW and the ‘Color My World’ multi-artist EP, February 11, 2024

Here we are again in The Lounge on another simple Sunday. We have plenty of wide Open Stream today with a couple of great pieces of programming thrown in.

Here’s your musical lineup:

Eldorado, the fourth studio album by ELO, was also their very first complete ‘concept’ album, with the idea written by Jeff Lynne before he wrote any music. The influence of The Beatles is prevalent throughout the album and, of course, Jeff Lynne would go on to make music with various members of The Beatles during the 1980’s and 1990’s. You can read all about it here.

3:00 p.m.  Color My World: Various Artists

Today we give you songs about color in the title, lyrics or both. It’s open stream with a theme, and you’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Donovan, Booker T & The MG’s, Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harum, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Sam & Dave, Badfinger, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Cream, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, J.D. Souther, Linda Ronstadt and more!
