Monday Rolls Around & It’s Time for Mudcrutch and Some Tunes About the Color Blue, April 3, 2023

Good morning and welcome back to the work week. If you’ve got those work-a-day blues, we can help you out today. Nothing like a little Mudcrutch music to solve that problem.

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. All About Blue: Various Artists

The color blue just happens to be my favorite color, so I’m indulging myself on Monday. In the first set, you’ll hear from Linda Ronstadt, Foreigner, The Allman Brothers Band, Taj Mahal, Electric Light Orchestra, The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Beatles, The Band, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Badfinger, Joni Mitchell, Jonathan Edwards, Mudcrutch, Fats Domino and more!

3:00 p.m. All About Blue Too: Various Artists

In our second set this afternoon, you’ll hear Phoebe Snow, The Rolling Stones, Robert Johnson, Jackson Browne, Paul Simon, Shawn Colvin, Marvin Gaye, Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison, The Doors, Buddy Guy, The Association, The Beatles, The Kinks, Canned Heat, The Smithereens, Janis Joplin, George Harrison and more!

7:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Live at The Fonda Theatre, W. Hollywood, CA June 26, 2016

The band that left Gainesville, Florida, and that would morph into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers came back with a bang in 2008 with the original cast. This is from their 2016 tour across America (which I still kick myself for missing when it passed through the House of Blues in Boston).

What could be better to help you through a Monday than great music? Not much, I’d venture. We’re on 24/7 (not just when we have programming) and we’re totally free of charge and we’re also totally free of commercial advertising. Give us a spin.

We’ve Made It to Friday and We’re ‘Under The Influence’ for Several Hours Plus the Final Turn for Tom Rush, March 17, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’ve made it to Friday and I know a ton of you will be celebrating St. Patrick’s day. It’s big here in Boston, but we don’t talk much about that since they don’t allow LGBT people to march in their ugly parade. They might catch it. But here in the lounge, we’ve got something better going on.

Here’s Friday’s musical madness:

10:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Yes, we have all been here at one time or another. Some of us with legal substances, some with illegal substances, and some of us with both. You will hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Byrds, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Donovan, Glen Frey, John Lee Hooker, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, The Traveling Wilburys, The Temptations, Small Faces, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Neil Young, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Steve Winwood, Led Zeppelin, Harry Chapin, The Band, The Fraternity of Man and more! Five hours of mind-bending madness.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Tom Rush FINAL AIRING!

The great Tom Rush, whose career has spanned more than sixty years, and who has launched several other singer-songwriter’s careers, takes his last turn as our featured singer-songwriter. Tomorrow, we’ll have a new selection.

Lots of good music today, and plenty of wide Open Stream before, in between, and after courtesy of The Music Mermaid. She takes care of things around here while I’m laboring in retail hell. We’re running 24/7 totally free with no commercial interruption. Get on it, people.

We’re Heading to the Weekend With Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, Our AOW Tribute to Townes Van Zandt, and Allen Toussaint In the Spotlight, Thursday, February 9, 2023

Good morning, folks! On Sunday we had our EP about the night time being the right time. Today we’ve got our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, along with our Townes Van Zandt tribute AOW and the great New Orleans R & B master, Allen Toussaint.

Here’s Thursday’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Poet, A Tribute To Townes Van Zandt, Various Artists

We’re back with our AOW, this time in a fairly early morning airing for our listeners outside the U.S. You’ll hear John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Nanci Griffith and others singing the great songs of one of America’s premier songwriters.

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

Today we have our ode to the sunrise, and it’s certainly a beautiful one here outside of Boston, although they are predicting rain for later today. You will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleewood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Allen Toussaint

Some of the greatest music comes out of the city of New Orleans, and Allen Toussaint was certainly a great music ambassador from the city. A musician, songwriter, arranger and producer, Toussaint was a legendary figure in New Orleans R & B from the 1950’s to the end of the century. Many recorded his compositions and he produced hundreds of songs, including Right Place, Wrong Time by his good friend Dr. John, and Lady Marmalade by LaBelle.

It’s always Black History Month here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we’ll be picking up the pace even more as we move through the month of February, so keep us dialed in. We’re totally free 24/7 with no commercial advertising. What’s not to love?

We Head Toward The Weekend With Our AOW, The ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, and a Tribute to Guitar Genius Jeff Beck, on Thursday, January 12, 2023

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are on the downslide to the weekend as we give you an airing of Santana’s AOW, our ‘Ode to Morning’ multi-artist EP, and a tribute to Jeff Beck, a man who had a profound influence on popular music.

Here’s today’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Abraxas by Santana

We are on our next-to-last airing of this great Latin rock album here in The Mermaid Lounge. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday, so you’ve got one more opportunity after this one!

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve had our musical tribute to the night time already this month, so now we turn to the morning hours where you will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. The Yardbirds Live at B. B. King’s Blues Club, New York, NY, July 19, 2006

On January 10, we lost guitar god Jeff Beck at the age of 78, but he was more than just a guitar god. Beck influenced others for generations. He was an eight-time Grammy winner who spent time in The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame twice, once in 1992 with The Yardbirds and again in 2009 as a solo artist. As we assemble a Spotlight feature on him, we start with this great live reunion performance from 2006 at B. B. King’s Blues Club.

Before, in between and after we give you our wide Open Stream under the supervision of The Music Mermaid. She has impeccable taste in music, as you well know. We can make the trip to the weekend so much better with great music, and it won’t cost you a penny or require a “membership” of any kind. Hell, we don’t even ask your name.

We’re pretty sure you’ll enjoy this selection.

2:00 p.m. Color My World: Various Artists

This one features songs with colors in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Valerie Carter, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys, Jonathan Edwards, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, John Hiatt, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Donovan, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Elton John, Procol Harum, Electric Light Orchestra, Amy Winehouse, The Who, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Sam & Dave, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, The Hollies, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Booker T & The MG’s, Lucinda Williams, John Cougar Mellencamp, Creedence Clearwater Revival and more!

On Saturday We’ve Got Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, The Final Airing of “Rumors” and The First Airing of Warren Zevon as This Week’s Singer-Songwriter, December 10, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! As the sun comes up in The Mermaid Lounge, we welcome you aboard the musical train for Saturday, for some, the first day of the weekend! My first day is tomorrow, but The Music Mermaid is here for you!

Here’s your lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve got a multi-artist EP paying homage to the night, and we’ve got one for the morning. This morning you will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac FINAL AIRING!

We bid a fond farewell to Rumors this afternoon, one of the greatest pop-rock albums ever made and certainly one that highlighted Christine McVie’s many talents. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new one for you. Stay tuned.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Warren Zevon NEW!

I remember my first time seeing Warren Zevon live. It was at the Berkelee Performance Center in Boston, and he was two hours late for the show after making us suffer through 52 versions of Year of The Cat courtesy of Al Stewart, the opening act. We were foul of mood. That was, until Zevon got on stage and blew us all away. He was an extraordinary songwriter who broke onto the scene when someone named Linda Ronstadt started singing his songs. And Zevon had a great voice to boot. He may have been a self destructive character, but nobody can ever deny the man’s talents.

Give us a listen. We’re totally free of charge, so you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. Your money is no good here in The Mermaid Lounge where we broadcast from. Not only do we not ask for a credit card; we also don’t ask you any personal information. We’ve got nothing for sale. It’s free. 24/7. No strings. No shit.

It’s Sunday In the Lounge and We’ve Got the Rolling Stones With The AOW, and Our ‘Under The Influence’ EP, October 16, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are back in the lounge for another Sunday, technically a day of rest unless you’re The Music Mermaid who is on duty 24/7. We’ve got some great programming planned for you all today!

What exactly do you think they’re smoking here?

Here’s your psychedelic lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Their Satanic Majesties Request NEW!

Here we have The Rolling Stones with their 6th British and 8th American studio album released by Decca Records in December of 1967. The band moved away from its R & B roots and experimented with psychedelic sounds and instruments (Mellotron, sound effects, African rhythms, among others) and produced the album themselves. It too a while as their production was interrupted by drug use, court appearances and jail terms by members of the group. They managed, however, to make a very different album but still sound like The Rolling Stones.

3:00 p.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

This EP and the Album of The Week managed to just fall together nicely today as we present our long-player of mind-altering substances. Next to love and heartbreak, substance use was probably the favorite topic for music. Some of it was legal; a lot of it not. You’ll hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Arlo Guthrie, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Donovan, Glen Frey, John Lee Hooker, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, The Traveling Wilburys, The Temptations, Small Faces, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Neil Young, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Steve Winwood, Led Zeppelin, Harry Chapin, The Band, The Fraternity of Man and more!

It’s a great day to tune in, turn on, and drop out as a famous counterculture hero once suggested. After all, it’s a day of rest. If you believe in The Big Guy, he even took a day off. And it was Sunday. So, hell, why not? We’re all waiting for you here in The Mermaid Lounge.

We Keep It Simple Today With Our ‘Color My World’ EP and Elton John In the Spotlight Later, Monday, August 22, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s Monday and I have a rare call to retail duty today, so The Music Mermaid is in charge. She’s keeping it simple on this fine day with our newest EP and a long-awaited Spotlight feature.

Today we’ve got our newest EP, Color My World, starting at 11:00 a.m. EST

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

This EP made its debut last month right around this time, so it’s back again. A multi-artist EP with references to colors in the title, lyrics or both will bring songs from Valerie Carter, Linda Ronstadt, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys, Jonathan Edwards, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, John Hiatt, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Donovan, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Elton John, Procol Harum, Electric Light Orchestra, Amy Winehouse, The Who, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Sam & Dave, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, The Hollies, Jimi Hendrix, Booker T & The MGs, Marvin Gaye, Lucinda Williams, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Cougar Mellencamp and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Elton John NEW!

This one has been a long time coming, and I finally broke through last night and figured out why it has taken me so long: I much prefer early Elton John to the music he has made later in his career. And so it is that you will hear little of his newer music here. But early Elton John? Spectacular stuff, and The Music Mermaid and I feel like we’ve got the best of all that here in this playlist.

Speaking of The Music Mermaid, she give us all that great wide Open Stream before, in between and looooong after the programming ends. We run 24/7 totally free of charge for your musical listening pleasure. And we do not run advertising. No sir.

We’re at Midweek With Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, and Our Brand New Spotlight Featuring Joan Baez, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022

We’re hitting the infamous midweek stride here in The Mermaid Lounge as we pay homage to the sunrise and mornings through music, and give you a brand new ‘Spotlight’ later featuring Joan Baez.

We begin the day with our multi-artist ‘Ode to Morning’ EP!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We began the month with ‘Here Comes The Night’ and now we’ve got the flip side for you. You’ll hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Joan Baez NEW!

Joan Baez is an American folk music legend, a singer-songwriter whose music has never left behind the spirit of protest and social justice. She recently retired after more than 60 years of playing and touring, and has released more than 30 albums. Tonight we put her In the Spotlight where she belongs.

Before, in between, and after, The Music Mermaid gives you our wide Open Stream with no commercial interruption and no chatty DJs. Just music. Totally free 24/7. No lie. See for yourself.
