It’s a Busy Day in The Mermaid Lounge: The Allman Brothers & Eric Clapton, Live Dead, Another Ronstadt Playlist, and The Final Airing of the AOW, Saturday, July 18, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s a busy day here, music lovers! We’re getting ready to kick off Women’s Week tomorrow on #BecomeUngovernable Radio, so tune us in!

Allman Bros with Eric Clapton

Here’s your line up!

11:00 a.m.   The Allman Brothers Band Live With Eric Clapton, March 19, 2009

The blues from the blues masters right here. There’s a reason why these guys have lasted decades.

4:00 p.m.    Album of The Week: Déja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Crosby, Stills, Nash & (sometimes) Young, along with their 1970 masterpiece, helped me survive the disco generation. There were others. You hear them on this station daily. This is the final airing; there will be a new choice tomorrow!

7:00 p.m.    Linda Ronstadt: The Ballads   NEW!

Here’s another of those artists that I mentioned above. There should be a formal warning with this playlist: There are songs here where Ronstadt’s unparalleled voice will literally blow your doors off.

10:00 p.m.   Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at The Rainbow Theater, London, October 6, 1981   NEW!

Another soundboard recording of a great Dead concert, this time from the Rainbow Theater in London!

You have no idea what you are missing here: 24/7 streaming of the best music possible with no commercial interruptions, no political talk, no bullshit. All free every single day. What are you waiting for?

Creedence is in The Spotlight, The Final Airing of ‘The Melody of Death’ & Another Great Ronstadt Birthday Bash Playlist, Friday, July 17, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! This is a spectacular line-up today starting right off the bat, as my grandmother would say. And it includes yet another amazing Ronstadt playlist.

Here’s Friday’s line-up!

11:00 a.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Also known as Creedence or CCR. Four guys from the Bay area who sounded like they just rumbled out of a Lousiana swamp. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are the favorite American band around these parts. Creedence runs a hot and strong second.

3:00 p.m.    The Inner Sanctum: The Melody of Death   FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of The Melody of Death. On Monday, we’ll have a brand new episode available.

7:00 p.m.    Linda Ronstadt: Forgotten Gems, Rarities, Outtakes, Bootlegs   NEW!

This is a great playlist of stuff that may never have been heard before by most radio listeners. Some may have been forgotten. Some have never existed in recorded form. Enjoy this playlist.

The songs are already up under the Playlist tab. Just scroll to the bottom!

This would be a most excellent day to make #BecomeUngovernable Radio your radio station of choice. It’s free. Totally. Every day and in every way. Completely built OUTSIDE the system. I promise.

Ronstadt’s Birthday Bash Continues & We’re All Having Deja Vu Here in The Mermaid Lounge, Thursday, July 16, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are continuing on with our party here. In fact, that’ll be happening for the next few days as we move into Women’s Week next week. Don’t be whining, gentlemen, there has to be at least one radio station that is willing to give women their due in this industry.

Linda ronstadt billboard-1

I flew out to L.A. for this concert on Christmas Eve. One of the most memorable musical events in my life. Was back for Christmas dinner. My mother told me I needed to have my head examined.

Here’s your Thursday line-up!

11:00 a.m.   Linda Ronstadt Live at The Troubadour, Los Angeles, March 17, 1976

The Troubadour. Kind of like The Cavern Club during the British Invasion years. Everybody played there — Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Tom Waits, Tim Buckley…and it’s still going strong. This particular appearance happened in the middle of Ronstadt’s meteoric rise to a position of power in a male-dominated business.

3:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: Déja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

This is the second album by Crosby, Stills & Nash, but the first with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. My friends and I used to call them Crosby, Stills, Nash & (Sometimes) Young. This is a great album.

7:00 p.m.     Linda Ronstadt Duets & More  NEW-ish!

We’ve played this playlist once before, but then we added some stuff to it, so we’re taking the liberty of calling it new.  We don’t think you’ll mind once the music starts.

Here we are again, people. Trying to get the U.S. to tune us in. You are all woefully behind your world neighbors. This morning, we’ve got friends from Serbia tuning in. Where the fuck are you?

It’s Happy 74th Birthday to Linda Ronstadt! The Birthday Bash Begins Later This Afternoon After Our (Mostly) Open Stream Wednesday, July 15, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Today begins our Linda Ronstadt Birthday Bash! Like Tom Petty, there’s so much material to celebrate with, and she is our ‘House’ female soloist! The party starts today and leads us into next week — officially Women’s Week here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Here’s today’s line-up!

9:00 a.m.    The Inner Sanctum: The Melody of Death

We get the spooky on early today, so we can Open Stream before the bash begins!

ALL DAY    Wednesday is Wide-Open Stream Day!

We are circulating 23,000+ songs all day long, and we’re still building the library!

5:00 p.m.  Linda Ronstadt’s Birthday Bash! The Stone Poney/Early Years!

We start right at the beginning of this woman’s amazing musical journey, with the Stone Poney years and her Capitol Records recordings. This is just the beginning.

This would be an excellent time to tune us in! We have some great music in store over the next two weeks, including some new Linda Ronstadt live recordings to lay on you. As far as I know, we are the only radio station that pays respect to women in this manner, (and that includes Sirius-XM).

Deb’s Brand New Stream, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in Lucca, and The Inner Sanctum, Friday, June 19, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We are off to a very early start this morning with The Inner Sanctum. Deb’s Stream is brandy new today and is called, “What’s In A Name?”

Petty & Campbell-2

Here’s today’s line-up:

9:00 a.m.   The Inner Sanctum: The Amazing Death of Mrs. Putnam    FINAL AIRING!

This will be the final airing of this episode of The Inner Sanctum. We move on to a new story on Monday.

12:00 p.m.  Deb’s Stream: What’s In A Name?  NEW!

A collection of great rock n’ roll, country and blues songs with a name in the title. Like, Jolene, Mrs. Robinson, Carol, Maybelline, Casey Jones, Eleanor Rigby, Mary Jane’s Last Dance…you get the picture.

6:00 p.m.    Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live in Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

There’s a reason why these guys share #BecomeUngovernable House Band status with The Beatles. The boys were recorded live at the Piazza Napoleone. The set list is under the Playlist tab. It should be pretty close to the top. This is one of our favorite playlists.

Make this the day you tune us in. We’re for real.

Happy Birthday to Paul McCartney, Linda Ronstadt “Live” at Budokan, and “Surrealistic Pillow” gets more air time on Thursday, June 18, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Today, we’re going to celebrate Paul McCartney’s 78th birthday with a special playlist. Later, we have another legend — Linda Ronstadt — live at Budokan.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney   NEW!

This playlist could have gone on, literally, for hours. But I did show some restraint, so give me some credit here! People bitch and moan that McCartney is the most ‘commercial’ of the Beatles. That may be so. But it’s that commercial side of the coin that allows performers to make the music they love. And I certainly have loved being around for Mr. McCartney’s career.

6:00 p.m.    Linda Ronstadt Live at Budokan Hall, Japan, March 3, 1979

Ronstadt dominated the 70s, building a following that was unheard of  for a woman in the male-dominated rock world. Although she didn’t always enjoy playing massive venues, she sold them out routinely. I remember traveling to Los Angeles to see Linda Ronstadt at the Los Angeles Forum on Christmas eve during the Living in the USA tour. One of the best decisions I ever made.

9:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane

The Airplane come back in for a landing this evening with Surrealistic Pillow on board.

By the way, the set lists for McCartney and Ronstadt are both up under the Playlist tab. Scroll toward the bottom.

And by all means, join us and tune us in. It’s free. Always. No information required, and no credit card. Ever.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing Just About Everyone, We Have Nothing But Heartbreak, and “Tapestry” Gets Its Turn, Sunday, June 7, 2020

It’s Sunday Funday, Ungovernables! We have Petty, Heartbreak, and Tapestry as Album of the Week. What could be better?

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up!

11:00 a.m.   Petty Theft: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

This is one of our most popular playlists, and we haven’t played it for a while, so we thought this would be a good day. The Heartbreakers was one of the best cover bands on the planet, without question. All you need to do is listen.

3:00 p.m.    Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists   NEW!

We have all been down this road, haven’t we? Some of us more than others, but we’ll save my obvious bad choices for another venue. Heartbreak is clearly a prime source of some great music. Our new playlist proves that.

The track list is already up inder the Playlist tab. Please scroll to the bottom.

7:00 p.m.   Album of the Week: Tapestry by Carole King   NEW!

I literally wore this vinyl out. Then I had it on vinyl and 8-track. Then cassette. Then CD. Yeah. I’m fucking old. But this masterpiece never gets old. By the way, Carole King is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

Make this the day you tune us in. You will not regret it.

‘Deb’s Stream’ Debuts, Linda Ronstadt Hangs With Her Friends, and a Brand New “Inner Sanctum” on Monday, May 25, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s another Monday, but it’s a holiday Monday…as much as it can be in such times. But one thing never changes here. The music’s always great!

Linda Dolly Emmylou B&W

Here’s your line-up for Memorial Day:

12:00 p.m.   The Inner Sanctum: Hunter From Beyond   NEW!

We open the week with our Fourth Episode of The Inner Sanctum. We hope you enjoy it. Bwaaahahahahaha!

3:00 p.m.     Deb’s Stream: The Best of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live   NEW!

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers were road warriors. I’ve always said you really cannot appreciate this band fully until you’ve at least heard them live (seeing them is what you’d imagine a ‘religious experience’ to be). This collection of songs represent my personal live favorites from one of our official house bands. (The Beatles are the other.)

6:00 p.m.    Linda Ronstadt & Friends

Like Tom Petty’s untimely death, Linda Ronstadt’s inability to sing is a rough one for me. I imagine she’d still be making pretty great music. What we have, however, is an amazing musical journey with a singer who could — quite literally — sing anything. We’re going to have some fun with Linda Ronstadt over this summer.

You can access this playlist before the show by clicking here. Scroll until you find it!

Listen, we’re free. Seriously. All you need to do is click the link below. You don’t even need to open an account or provide personal information. We’re seriously outside the system. And we plan on staying there.

#SurfMusic Debuts, Our New “Live Dead” Concert, and the Album of the Week, Saturday, May 23, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We are here on #SurfMusic Debut Day, kicking off at noon (Eastern). Later, we have a new Live Dead. Is Barton Hall their best concert ever?

Surf Jaws

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

12:00 p.m.   Instrumental Surf Anthology, Volume 1: Various Artists  NEW!

Surf Music was a pretty big thing during the sixties, peaking in popularity between 1962 and 1964. It originally began as instrumental music, with Dick Dale being the most iconic of the instrumental genre. Then the Beach Boys came along and brought the vocal genre to the mix. Here we start off with about an hour of the instrumental genre.

5:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Adieu False Heart, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy

The final airing of our Album of the Week (sadly). Tomorrow when you rush to the blog, there’ll be a new album!

10:00 p.m.  Live Dead: The Grateful Dead Live at Barton Hall, Cornell University   NEW!

Is this the absolute best live performance ever turned in by The Grateful Dead? There are many Deadheads  who believe it is. See for yourself.

Tune us in, people. Time’s a wastin’

The Legend of Duane Allman, A Tribute to Fats Domino, and Our Album of the Week for Thursday, May 21, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! This is our fifth day of bright sunshine this week! What the hell is going on? I’ll tell you what. Great music going on here.

Fats Domino

Here’s your line-up for Thursday:

12:00 p.m.   Album of the Week: Adieu False Heart, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy

Learn more about this beautiful album by clicking on the photo in the sidebar of this blog.

3:00 p.m.    Skydog: The Legend of Duane Allman   NEW!

Duane Allman was the leader of the greatest Southern rock band on the planet, but he was also a most wanted man on guitar. He played guitar for many, including Boz Scaggs, Laura Nyro, Derek & The Dominos, Clarence Carter, Wilson Pickett, and many others.

7:00 p.m.    Goin’ Home, A Tribute to Fats Domino: Various Artists

Here we have another legend and rock n’roll pioneer. A New Orleans native, Antoine “Fats” Domino sold 65 million records during his career. Between 1955 and 1960, Fats had eleven top ten hits. He was quiet and humble, avoiding the limelight. This, no doubt, contributed to the fact that he is often overlooked.

Tune us in. You’ll hear stuff you aren’t going to hear anywhere else. I promise.
