Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge and I leave you in good flippers with the Music Mermaid as I head off to the land of retail.

Here’s how your Saturday is shaping up:

11:00 a.m. A Little Bit O’Soul: Various Artists

Actually, it’s a shitload o’soul here in the lounge today. Just over five hours of the greatest soul from Motown to Memphis and back. You’ll hear Ray Charles, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Supremes, Al Green, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Fats Domino, and so many more.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Old Yellow Moon by Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell FINAL AIRING!

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. we bid a fond but very necessary farewell to this great album. Tomorrow, when you roll out of the sack, we’ll have a brand new one for you.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA NEW!

In keeping with our Saturday evening ritual, we’ve got another great airing of LIVE DEAD! Again, it’s one we’ve never aired before keeping the tradition alive. Join us and listen to the music world’s premier jam band.

Do I sound like a broken record when I get to this part of the blog post? Of course I do. But that’s the role of advertising. Everyone knows that if you repeat something enough maybe somebody will want me to shut the fuck up and listen. You have no idea what you’re missing…for free.

It’s a Busy Saturday With Linda Ronstadt ‘Live’ in LA, Marvin Gaye In the Spotlight, LIVE DEAD, and the Final Airing of ‘Exodus’ On June 5, 2021

Good Morning, Rockologists! It’s another fine, frenzied Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge! We’ve got a bunch of great stuff sprinkled amidst all that great Open Stream! Tune in!

Linda Ronstadt is live at The Universal Amphitheatre

Here’s your Saturday programming:

11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at The Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles, October 3, 1977

This was the eleventh consecutive night for Ronstadt’s Simple Dreams tour back in ’77, added due to continued ticket demand. She was riding high in those day. I saw the tour in Boston and upstate New York, only two of the forty I would see her perform during her career.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers

This will be the final airing of Exodus as our Album of The Week. When you roll your butt out of bed tomorrow morning, we’ll have a brand new album in focus.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Marvin Gaye

Despite his many personal problems, Marvin Gaye was a musical marvel who was instrumental in shaping the Motown sound, first as a studio musician, then as a major artist with a string of hits. Because of this, he was often called The Prince of Motown. We put him In the Spotlight today.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Thelma Theatre, Los Angeles, December 12, 1969 NEW!

We go waaaaay back in time for this one, kids! Another performance by the ultimate jam band.

As I say every day: This is a great day to tune us in. Because every day is a great day to tune us in. No lie. We’re free. We do not accept advertising so there’s no untimely interruptions, and our DJ’s are practically mute.

It’s Saturday With The Flying Burrito Brothers, Booker T & The MGs, LIVE DEAD, and Our Album of The Week, May 15, 2021

Welcome to our usual raucus Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge. While I entertain the entitled consumer masses, The Music Mermaid will be seeing to your listening pleasure. We’ve got our usual great Saturday line-up.

Booker T & The MGs, the Stax Records house band, were a force. We’ve got them In the Spotlight this evening!

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at The Palomino, Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969 NEW!

We love this band here in The Mermaid Lounge, and this particular live recording is new to us here. Gram Parsons didn’t live long enough to really reach his potential, but we believe it was limitless and that he left us a great musical legacy.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Linda Ronstadt, The Stone Poneys & Friends, Volume III FINAL AIRING!

We say farewell to this album after today’s airing, the final Stone Poneys album before Linda Ronstadt launches into her meteoric career and her decade reign as the Queen of Rock. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new album for you.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Booker T & The MGs

Yes, they were the Stax Records house band, but they were so much more than that. They were a force in the music world and, once you pay attention to them, it’s easy to see why Tom Petty and his bandmates were so smitten with them.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountainview, CA, June 21, 1989 NEW!

Another new offering from the ultimate jam band here. We aired a previous Dead show several months ago from this venue, but this one is brandy new. Enjoy.

I can hear the birds outside my window this morning, the sun is already up, and our friends from Europe, Asia and beyond are already tuned in. Why don’t you join them? We’re not-for-profit. we accept no advertising to clog up your listening pleasure with a hard sell from our sponsors (we don’t have any), and we don’t employ chatty DJs who talk endlessly about inane subjects. We just play music and toss in a few station ID comments a day. And oh, by the way, we play music nobody else plays all day long. That’s it. Today should be the day.
