Another fine band here born of the ashes of Jefferson Airplane. There have been many personnel changes over the years, but Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady have been the anchors from the beginning.

6:00 p.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists

This EP has been on a hiatus since about March or April, but it’s back for an evening airing. Billed as ‘The Reunion Concert,’ this would be the first time the dynamic duo played together in over a decade. It would be a reunion that would endure until their deaths. The Everly Brothers exerted considerable influence over The Beatles and many others who came after them, including a guy named Tom Petty.

4:00 p.m. Hooker n’ Heat: A Collaboration Between John Lee Hooker & Canned Heat

What was the result? A great double album of blues music released in early 1971, becoming the great John Lee Hooker’s first album to chart. The great Blind Al Wilson, leader of Canned Heat, died on September 3, 1979 from a drug overdose, just shortly after the album was recorded. It was released after his death.

8:00 p.m. The James Cotton Band Live at The Shaboo Inn, Willamantic, CT, December 6, 1974

We close it out with a great live performance from the great James Cotton Band from The Shaboo Inn.

After Saturday Night Fever, it was all downhill. They are the Jekyll & Hyde band of rock music. However, before Saturday Night Fever, they were fantastic.

8:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris & The Nash Ramblers Live at The Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN, April 30-May 2, 1991

When I was young, my friend and I took to the road and headed off to see The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Our parents were in a panic because we were do young and hitting the road with no actual experience and probably not enough money. We saw the show at The Ryman. In 1991, Emmylou Harris and her newly-formed acoustic band showed up and was literally the impetus for the Ryman, then run-down and no longer the home of the Opry, for the Ryman’s restoration and rebirth. It reopened to a new generation of musicians in 1994.
