Nope. It’s not a misspelling. Check out the album cover. Be that as it may, we continue our little journey down psychedelia lane with our AOW selection. Rather than me writing a tome here, I’ll give you the review by ‘Discover Music.’

You know an album is timeless when it takes a half-century to be properly appreciated. The Zombies were, however, right into the spirit of the times in 1968, evolving from their R&B origins and writing one of the most enduring peace-and-love anthems, Odyssey & Oracle’s only hit, “Time Of The Season.” But it took decades for most people to hear the rest of the album and realise how beautifully inventive it all was. It’s no secret that The Zombies were squeaky-clean compared to most 60s bands, but this album was visionary as they come.

This is the place to be today. There is a lot of great music in both the programming and the open stream, and you’ll be under the mesmerizing control of The Music Mermaid. That is significantly better than being under the control of Donald Trump. I think we can all agree on that. We’re totally free. Guess who the other two are.

One more day on the front lines of retail hell coming up. We had a totally unhinged woman with a paintbrush up her ass come in yesterday. It was a thing of beauty. We’re going to see if we caught her tirade on camera. But hey, it’s a new day and we’ve got great music on tap.

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Aftermath by The Rolling Stones NEW!

The Rolling Stones recorded this album at RCA Studios in California in December of 1965 and March of 1966 during breaks in their international tour. It is considered to be an artistic breakthrough for the Stones. It is the first album of original compositions they released, all credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Brian Jones also began taking a more active role in their music, experimenting with instruments they’d never used before, including sitar, Appalachian dulcimer, Japanese koto, and marimbas. Aftermath topped the British album charts for eight consecutive weeks and eventually achieved platinum album status from the Recording Industria Association of America (RRIA).

One of our favorite EP’s is up today as we spin up Travelin’ Fever. Lately we’ve had the desire to get out of this hothouse and move to cooler digs. This is undoubtedly our favorite musical era here in The Mermaid Lounge. It’s what made us start the station to begin with. So, we’ve come full circle on this fine Wednesday. Before, in between and all night long we’ve got non-stop, commercial-free music. And our DJ’s are virtually mute. Even better. I listen to those guys on the sixties channel on that station you have to pay for and they make me cringe. We don’t do that here. And we’re totally 100%, no-strings-attached free. Every damned day.

This appearance was broadcast on BBC Radio. Undoubtedly one of the most personally destructive artists on the planet, but that may have been what made him so damned good. He was also, without a doubt, one hell of a great singer-songwriter. Flawed, but brilliant. He was laboring in obscurity until someone named Linda Ronstadt discovered his genius.
