We Begin the Week With ‘Ode To Morning’, Then Onto a John Hartford ‘Spotlight’, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers at The Vic in Chicago On April 21, 2025

We kick off yet another work week with our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, a brand new ‘Spotlight’ featuring the late, great John Hartford, and The Heartbreakers live at The Vic.

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

Yesterday, we had songs about the night. Today it’s songs about the morning with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Chris Hillman and more!

John Hartford’s biggest hit was Gentle On My Mind, for which he scored three Grammies. The song was also listed in “BMI’s Top 100 Songs of the Century.” Hartford was a folk, country and bluegrass composer and musician who mastered both the fiddle and banjo and frequently switched between those and the guitar during his live performances. Like John Prine, he was also known for his witty lyrics and unique vocal style, and he had an extensive knowledge of Mississippi River folklore. He also invented his very own tap dance and frequently clogged on a piece of plywood as he sang and played. He was truly a minstrel and entertainer.

8:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Victoria, Chicago, IL, April 19, 2003

In 2003, The Heartbreakers played five nights at The Vic. Tonight we bring you their final performance of that residency.

We’ve got some great music for you today, including a ‘Spotlight’ we’ve been meaning to add for quite some time. We finally give the late, great John Hartford his due. We hope you’ll tune us in. We’re on 247 and we’re totally free all the time. The button is below.

On Friday It’s ‘Money, Honey’, a Tracy Nelson ‘Spotlight’ Feature, and The Highwaymen Live, April 11, 2025

Good morning, music lovers! Today we’ve got plenty of wide Open Stream for you with our playlist about money (honey), music from Tracy Nelson, and a country supergroup!

Here’s your Friday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

We start out this morning with songs about money from The Beatles, Randy Newman, Van Morrison, The Kinks, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, The Byrds, Rosanne Cash, Tom Rush, Allen Toussaint, Gerry Rafferty & Steelers Wheel, The Wallflowers, Jerry Jeff Walker, Laura Nyro, The Wallflowers, Willie Nelson and more!

4:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tracy Nelson

She’s a little bit country. She’s a little bit blues. She’s even got that country blues vibe. She’s also pretty fantastic.

8:00 p.m. The Highwaymen Live at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY, March 14, 1990

We close out the programming today with the authentic outlaw country music supergroup of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.

Today It’s Our ‘Ode to Morning’ EP, New Heartbreakers Music, and Amy Winehouse on Thursday, December 26, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and we’re over the hump and headed for the weekend. We start out with songs about morning, then it’s the new-ish deluxe edition of Long After Dark and some live Amy Winehouse.

Here’s your Thursday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We start out the day with songs about morning, my favorite time of day, with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Townes Van Zandt, Chris Hillman and more!

This is a new release of one of The Heartbreakers’ sleeper albums. I say that because it was probably one of their least appreciated offerings, yet there are plenty of great songs on here beyond You Got Lucky, one of their signature hits. This release offers four never-before-heard songs, so that’s like brand new Heartbreaker music. It also contains an expanded version of one of the band’s most fun songs and a cult favorite, Heartbreakers Beach Party. A few songs appear twice because they were recorded for videos which appeared on French TV. As such, they are slightly different from each other. Enjoy. I did.

8:00 p.m. Amy Winehouse Live at Porchester Hall, London, UK, March 8, 2007

We don’t play much music from this time, but Amy Winehouse is an exception because she was a true R & B artist and we can appreciate that. Unfortunately, her demons got the best of her before she realized her true potential.

We embark on another day. Some of you will be back at work after Christmas and some will be on vacation. Either way, we remain on the air 24/7, totally free and with no commercial advertising. The button is below.

Welcome Weekenders! It’s ‘Ode To Morning’, Some Live ELO and a Bob Dylan ‘Spotlight’, Saturday, November 23, 2024

Good morning, weekenders! We’ve got a fine lineup in The Lounge today with our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, Jeff Lynne’s ELO live in London and a Bob Dylan ‘Spotlight’ feature!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

The other day we started with songs about the night. Today we flip the switch to morning with Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Townes Van Zandt and more!

4:00 p.m. Electric Light Orchestra Live at The Paris Theatre, London, UK, April 19, 1973

Today they’re called Jeff Lynne’s ELO and rightly so. They just went on their farewell tour. If I were still attending big venue events, I’d have seen them in Boston. I’m not. But I’ve seen them twice before and they never disappoint. Today we have them live from the Paris Theatre in London.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Bob Dylan

Singer, songwriter, poet, Nobel Prize Winner and veteran of 60 years in the music business, we put Bob Dylan ‘In the Spotlight’ tonight to close out our programming.

Another bleak, rainy day here but we really need it. Massachusetts has been under a fire watch for weeks now, so there’s no complaining. Besides, we’ve got the best music on the planet. Great day to tune us in. The button is below.

8:00 p.m. Gov’t Mule Live at Leverkeusener Jazztage, The Forum, Leverkusen, Germany, November 7, 2017

We close it out with Gov’t Mule in a live performance filmed for Germany’s Rockpalast television show.

It’s a Simple Sunday With Dolly and Our AOW and the ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP Later, November 19, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We’ve got a real treat for you today with our Album of The Week as Dolly Parton’s Rockstar makes its debut on our station. Read on for details!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

When Dolly Parton learned she was being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she turned it down because she felt she was not a rock star. She’d never made an album of rock music. The people at the Hall disagreed with her and wanted to induct her anyway. She returned the favor by releasing Rockstar, a 30-song album of classic rock and rock n’ roll songs given the Dolly treatment. And it’s a treat. Dolly had a lot of supporters on this one, including Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on her version of The Beatles’ Let It Be, Ann Wilson on her version of Magic Man, and Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow on You’re No Good.

3:00 p.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

While Dolly goes rock, you’ll also find her in our big, bad country EP. Along with Dolly, you’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and more!
