Good morning, bluesologists! We’re back with another Tuesday Bluesday with the Allman Brothers Band singing the blues and some live Blues Project.

Part one of Martin Scorcese’s big bad blues project. We’ll air the second volume next Tuesday.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Buffalo Springfield by Buffalo Springfield

The second airing of this week’s Album of The Week, the debut album by this iconic band whose members would eventually become founding members of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Poco, and the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band.

7:00 p.m. The Blues Project Live at The Cafe Au Go Go, Greenwich Village, New York, November 24-27, 1965

Some great live Blues Project here from their residency at the Cafe Au Go Go in the mid-sixties.

On This Keep-It-Simple Sunday, We’ve Got Our AOW by Buffalo Springfield and ‘The Original Sixties Rotation’ EP, May 21, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! As you know, we keep it simple on Sundays with plenty of wide Open Stream, but we do have a great new AOW and our original sixties rotation.

Here’s your simple Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Buffalo Springfield by Buffalo Springfield NEW!

Although Buffalo Springfield wasn’t satisfied with this album, recorded in the summer of 1966 at Gold Star Studios, this was a groundbreaking album in many respects. Five of the songs were written by a guy named Neil Young, but he only sang lead on one of those. Richie Furay sang lead on the rest. Their first release from the album did not catch on nationally, but did make the Top 40 in Los Angeles during the month of August. However, by December, Stephen Stills’ For What It’s Worth became a national hit. The rest, as they say, is musical history. Aside from Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, the band was rounded out by Bruce Palmer (bass guitar) and Dewey Martin (drums, backing vocals).

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

Our first sixties extended playlist with five uninterrupted hours of music from the early-to-mid sixties (although I am sure some songs from the latter part of that decade slipped in). Bob Dylan won a Pulitzer Prize in Literature for his songwriting skills, and he’s up at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Emmylou Harris returns with our Album of The Week released on February 7, 1975 (my 21st birthday). This time it’s her second studio release and the first on a major label. It is a tour de force without a doubt. She covers songs by Dolly Parton, Lennon & McCartney, Charles & Ira Louvin, and Rodney Crowell, among others. But the most beautiful song on the album is one she co-wrote with Bill Danoff, Boulder To Birmingham, written for the great Gram Parsons, who passed in 1973.

3:00 p.m. Under the Influence: Various Artists

Hell, it’s always a good day to tune in, turn on, and drop out as far as I’m concerned. We start the day and a new week with the first Mudcrutch album. This is the band that left Gainesville looking for musical fortune in L.A. It didn’t work out until later as the band split and morphed into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (we’re happy for that part). Later in 2008, Tom Petty reunited the original band and they finally found their place in the music world, releasing two albums and going on tour. Enjoy this one. They were a fine band in their own right.
