It’s Monday Again With The Band, Little Richard In the Spotlight, and Your DJ’s Favorite R & B Stream, June 28, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Here we are again beginning another week. Monday has rolled around again, much too quickly I must admit.

The Band was one of the finest damned bands on this (or any) planet.

Here’s your Moan-Day line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, New Jersey, July 20, 1976

They went from Bob Dylan’s “back-up” band to being one of the finest, most respected musical entities on this or any planet. The Band was a wonderful thing. They are legendary for a reason.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Little Richard

We not only play our favorites, but those who were rock n’ roll pioneers…those who inspired and delighted our favorites. Little Richard was a force, and he certainly is one of those early pioneers.

7:00 p.m. DJ’s Choice: My Favorite R & B Stream, Various Artists

One night I sat down and put this together off the top of my head. You’ll hear Al Green, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, The Four Tops, The Staple Singers, Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & The MGs, James Brown, Wicked Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, Jimmy Ruffin, and more!

It’s too damned hot to go out today. Why not sit back, relax and tune us in? Believe me. You cannot go wrong.

On Friday, Night Time is The Right Time, and We Offer Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton Live at Madison Square Garden, June 25, 2021

To say that many songs have been written about the night would be an understatement, and we prove it with our latest long-player today. It kind of…kept going…and going. Until I got tired, that is.

Tonight we have Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton live from Madison Square Garden.

Here’s your Friday musical shenanigans:

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists NEW!

This was one I couldn’t get out of my head. Songs with references to the night either in the titles or the lyrics. It was fun, but exhausting because it never wanted to end, and I’m sure I’ve missed some. But hey, that’s the way it goes.

You’ll hear B.B. King, Gregg Allman, John Mayall, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldaur, Carly Simon, Dr. John, Joe Walsh, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Them, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, John Cougar Mellencamp, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, The Traveling Wilburys and many, many more.

We’ll have the set list up under the Playlist tab before air time! Just scroll to the bottom.

7:00 p.m. Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton Live From Madison Square Garden, February 25-28, 2008

Here we have a great selection of songs from two musical legends recorded over three performances at Madison Square Garden in 2008. Unlike some, however, I personally consider Winwood the bigger talent here, but that’s me. He’s our guy here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Great day to listen in, particulary if you think that the night time is the right time. We are totally free; we ask no personal information; we seek no subscriptions; and we accept no advertising. It’s all about the music.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday and We’ve Got The Blues Project, John Mayall With Our AOW, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, June 22, 2021

Gooooood Morning, Bluesologists! It’s another fine Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got the full magilla here for you today sprinkled in between all that great Open Stream!

Here’s today’s programming:

11:00 a.m. The Blues Project Live at The Matrix Club, San Francisco, September 1966

We’ve got The Blues Project recorded live between September 7-15 during an extended stint at The Matrix Club in San Francisco in 1966.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Blues From Laurel Canyon by John Mayall

This is the second airing of this week’s selection (released in 1968), recorded just after the demise of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. This album adds to the Laurel Canyon musical legacy.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Stevie Ray Vaughan

What would Tuesday Bluesday be without Stevie Ray Vaughan? This playlist covers his career as a solo artist as well as his time with Double Trouble, and also includes both studio and live selections.

Great day to tune us in. (Don’t I say that every damned day?) But hey, I’m not lying. We’re totally free, uninterrupted by commercial endeavors, and we’re not going to ask you for any personal information. We don’t require a mandatory paid subscription. This is all about the music.

Monday Puts Us ‘Between Heaven & Hell,’ We Have New ‘Live’ Ry Cooder, and Volume One of Our Summer of Love Playlist, June 21, 2021

We’re back to another Monday (sometimes it’s a Moan-day) here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got some great programming here for you today, including some new Ry Cooder.

We feature our very first live performance by Ry Cooder today!

Here’s Monday’s programming:

11:00 a.m. Between Heaven & Hell: Various Artists

Sometimes life is like that; it resides somewhere between heaven and hell. Just ask Donovan, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, Z.Z. Top, Van Morrison, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Presley, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Fats Domino, Foo Fighters, and The Grateful Dead. You’ll hear all them and more!

3:00 p.m. Ry Cooder Live From The Record Plant, Sausalito, California, July 7, 1974 NEW!

Today we feature one of our favorites live in Ry Cooder, guitarist extraordinaire. He is joined on stage by Jim Dickinson on bass and the legendary Jim Keltner (Buster Sidebury) on drums. This marks the first live performance we’ll be airing from this guy, and we hope to have more. Linda Ronstadt calls Ry Cooder the greatest guitarist she’s ever met. That’s saying plenty as she has performed with some of the best on the planet over her long career.

7:00 p.m. The Summer of Love, Volume One: Various Artists

It’s summer again, so it’s only fitting that we embark on our three-volume Summer of Love playlist set this week. You’ll hear Volume One today with music from Scott McKenzie, Procol Harum, The Doors, the Spencer Davis Group, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Yardbirds, and many more!

Come on, people. What the hell are you waiting for anyway? A written invitation? I’ve been doing that every day since I started writing this damned blog! We are free, not-for-profit, do not run any advertising, and play the best music on the planet. Tune us in. Please.

It’s Sunday Funday Here in The Mermaid Lounge With ‘Ladies Day Out’ and “Blues From Laurel Canyon” As Our Album of The Week, June 20, 2021

Good Morning, and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. It’s time once again for our ‘Ladies Day Out’ extended playlist, and we’ve got a great new Album of The Week starting today.

Ladies Day Out begins at 3:00 p.m. and runs for five uninterrupted hours.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Blues From Laurel Canyon by John Mayall NEW!

Released in November 1968 after John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers disbanded, this album is yet another piece of Laurel Canyon music history. John Mayall wrote all the songs and plays harmonica, organ and guitar on the album. He is joined by a young Mick Taylor (guitar), Colin Allen (drums), and Stephen Thompson (bass). Peter Green of the original Fleetwood Mac (a blues band at its birth) plays guitar on one of the songs as well. There’s nothing like some British blues to kick-start your day.

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

The women of popular music still get the short end of the stick on the airwaves. Some of these radio stations think that Joan Jett and Blondie are the only women who ever made rock n’ roll. Pioneers like Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, and others get absolutely no appreciable playtime that I can find anywhere, not even on the so-called “classic rock” channels.

We aim to change that here on #BecomeUngovernable Radio. We do not broadcast like traditional radio because we can’t afford to compete with those entities. We are an Internet radio station. But we have made a commitment to showcasing the women of rock n’ roll, soul, folk, blues, even cajun-zydeco (sorry, no rap here) in the hope that in some small way we can pay them respect. Our homage to the women who make music begins at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Tune us in. It’s hot as the blazes out there where I am today. But it’s nice and cool here in The Mermaid Lounge. The only thing hot in here is the music. And it runs 24/7 free of charge to everyone.
