We’re Keeping It Simple On this Fine Sunday. B.B. King & Friends Own Our AOW and The Women of Music Take Over Mid-Afternoon With the ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, January 15, 2022

Happy Sunday, kids! It’ll be a fine day here as we keep the programming simple with plenty of Open Stream! B. B. King and his friends own the Album of The Week, and we also have our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP in the afternoon to take you into the evening.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: A Night of Blistering Blues by B. B. King & Friends NEW!

Back in 1987, B. B. King and his friends decided to make a ‘live’ blues album as they were recorded at the Ebony Showcase Theater in L.A. His friends included blues greats like Etta James, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and several more. We bring this great album to you today!

3:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists

One of our absolute favorite days is the one where the women of music take over the airwaves here for several hours of music that encompasses all musical styles (there are some exclusions but we don’t need to list them if you’re a listener). To this day, the women of music get the short end of the stick on many radio stations, but not this one. You’ll hear Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Emmylou Harris, Petula Clark, Laura Nyro, Cilla Black, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Maria Muldaur, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Eva Cassidy, Wendy Waldman, Shawn Colvin, The Ronettes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Norah Jones, Phoebe Snow, Nicolette Larson, Sheryl Crow, Valerie Carter, Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield and more!

We are good to go here in The Mermaid Lounge. Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, so why not kick off your shoes and settle down in your favorite chair. Give yourself a treat by tuning us in. We’re totally free. It’s as simple as clicking on the button below.

Welcome To Tuesday Bluesday With Some ‘Live’ James Cotton, Our AOW, and a New Spotlight Featuring the Tedeschi Trucks Band, December 13, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! It’s another Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got some great stuff on tap for today, including the Tedeschi Trucks Band Spotlight feature!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. James Cotton Live at Antoine’s Night Club, New Orleans, LA, July 1987

There are just some shows we can’t nail a date down for. Trust me. I’m totally anal retentive about this stuff. I have looked everywhere. Not happening. But nevertheless, it’s a great James Cotton show. Enjoy.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat

Not a blues album per se, but this is the album where Little Feat established its sound, moving into the realm of New Orleans rhythm & blues and funk. Sam Clayton (percussion) and the late, great Paul Barrere (guitar) became permanent members of the band on this album. This would be the final lineup before the death of Lowell George and the band’s dissolution.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tedeschi Trucks Band NEW!

Right now, this is our premier blues-rock band with arguably the best blues guitarist in the business in Derek Trucks. His wife, Susan Tedeschi, is no slouch on that thing either. And she can sing the blues. This one has been a long time coming. We’ve also gotten hold of some great live performances that we’ll soon be featuring.

This is the place to be on Tuesday because it’s blues day. We’ve always got a global full house on this day, so why not join the club? We’re on 24/7. We’re totally free…no credit card or personal info required. It’s all about the music.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday and We’ve Got Our Big, Bad Blues EP, Our AOW, and A New Spotlight Featuring Buddy Guy (and Some Friends), November 22, 2022

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Everybody Knows by Stephen Stills & Judy Collins

We start the day with the second airing of our Album of The Week by Stephen Stills and Judy Collins, the first album they’ve ever made together in spite of the fact that they’ve known each other and worked together for decades. It was released in 2017.

11:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

This is our big, five-hour blues EP featuring Delbert McClinton, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Robert Cray Band, J. J. Cale, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Koko Taylor, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Marcia Ball, Duane Allman, Susan Tedeschi, Howlin’ Wolf, Roomful of Blues, Tracy Nelson and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Buddy Guy NEW!

Buddy Guy is an extraordinary blues guitarist and singer whose guitar chops have influenced generations of musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richard, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer. He hails from the Chicago blues genre. Tonight you get to hear him alone and with his friends.

It’s always jumpin’ here in The Mermaid Lounge on Tuesday Bluesday, and today will be no exception. We’re free 24/7 with no surprises, no credit card required…you don’t even have to give us your name. All you need is a free tab and a mouse so you can click on the button below.

We Have a Trifecta Tuesday Bluesday Here With New ‘Live’ Music From the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Janis With Our AOW, and Marcia Ball In the Spotlight, November 15, 2022

This is your day, Blues Lovers! All of our programmed music time today is devoted to da blues. We’re cooking with gas today as we kick it all off with some brand new ‘live’ music from the premier power blues band, Tedeschi Trucks.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday programming:

11:00 a.m. Tedeschi Trucks Band Live at The Fox Theatre, Oakland, CA, September 8th & 9th, 2016 NEW!

The premier big, bad blues-rock sound of this fabulous band is unbeatable, led by the best blues guitarist on the planet in Derek Trucks and blues singer and guitarist Susan Tedeschi. Today we’ve got them live from the Fox Theatre in Oakland.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama by Janis Joplin

At mid-afternoon it’s the second airing of the only solo album released by Janis Joplin in her lifetime. This was recorded right after she left Big Brother & The Holding Company. She invited the Kozmic Blues Band to back her on the album and Janis saddled up and rode with them for a while.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Marcia Ball

Marcia Ball is a blues singer, songwriter and pianist extraordinaire who was born in Orange, Texas and raised in Vinton, Louisiana. USA Today described Marcia Ball’s music as being “where Texas stomp-rock and Louisiana swamp-blues meet.” She has been at this for fifty years and is still going strong! You can learn all about Marcia Ball here on her website.

Come on, kids, get your musical shit together and join us for Tuesday Bluesday, a day where we always have a full house here. We won’t cost you a penny and you don’t have to fill out any forms or provide any personal information to listen in. We do not require subscriptions or memberships. No lie and no surprises. Just do it.

It’s Another Fine Tuesday Bluesday With Our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP, Our AOW, and B. B. King In the Spotlight, November 8, 2022

Blues lovers, it is your day as we start it off with our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP and close it out with B. B. King. In between, it’s our Album of The Week.

We are the House of Blues every Tuesday and here’s today’s lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

There’s nothing like Chicago for blues and this multi-artist EP brings you Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Water, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son Seals, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sweet Harmony by Maria Muldaur

Technically, this album fits just fine on a Tuesday Bluesday since Maria Muldaur refuses to be defined by any single genre of music and has successfully combined a bit of blues, jazz and folk in this fine album. See for yourself this afternoon.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of B. B. King

B. B. King was a pioneer who defined the blues for a worldwide audience. As a guitar innovator, King developed an intricate style of blues solo playing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato, and staccato picking with the help of the most important woman in his life, Lucille. This style would inspire future blues guitarists, and it’s here tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.

It’s always a full house on Tuesday Bluesdays and we’ve got listeners from Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Russian Federation, Faroe Islands, Australia, Texas, California and New York this morning. Join our international community!

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big, Bad Blues EP, Albert Collins ‘Live’ at The Fillmore, and Our AOW in Between, October 25, 2022

Happy Tuesday Bluesday, blues lovers! We’ve got your covered today with Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues and some live Albert Collins. In between, we’ve got some psychedelia for you.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

We’ve got a few blues playlists here, but this is the grand kahuna. You’ll hear music up and down the blues spectrum with Delbert McClinton, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Robert Cray Band, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, J.J. Cale, Koko Taylor, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Susan Tedeschi, Duane Allman, Marcia Ball, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Tracy Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit

Just a short break for some psychedelic music here as we bring you what is considered the final psychedelic masterpiece of the original psychedelic music era.

7:00 p.m. Albert Collins Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA, December 26-28, 1969

Some ‘live’ Albert Collins recorded over a three-day stretch at one great venue, The Fillmore West. We haven’t heard this one for a while and it jumped right out. We have been remiss. Enjoy.

Here I go again: Why not join our listeners? There’s absolutely no cost to you. We are not a corporate entity, nor do we have the desire to become one. We just play music. We are not all things to all people. We do not play rap. And if we did, we certainly would not be playing anything that came out of Ye’s mouth. We do not play head-banging hard rock. We do not play hip-hop or disco. But we play just about everything else.

Happy Birthday, Tom Petty! Today It’s ‘Live’ Petty Twice, Once With Mudcrutch and Once With The Heartbreakers! (And Our AOW in Between.) Join the Party. Thursday, October 20, 2022

Good Morning, Pettyologists! Today we celebrate the 71st anniversary of the birth of Tom Petty as we wind down Tom Petty Month, but we still have some great stuff to go, including some never-before-heard here on #BecomeUngovernable Radio. Stay tuned!

Here’s today’s musical excursion:

11:00 a.m. Mudcrutch Live at The Fonda Theatre, Hollywood, CA, June 26, 2016

One of my great regrets in life was missing this Tom Petty tour with his “other” band, the band that left Gainesville all those years ago. They didn’t make it as Mudcrutch, but they did morph into The Heartbreakers. Later, Petty would pull this band back together and make it count, including this amazing 2016 tour. Their performance of Hungry No More at Boston’s House of Blues blew the doors off the place. And I missed it. Today we’ve got their performance at the Fonda Theatre in Cali.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Their Satanic Majesties Request by The Rolling Stones

We’re winding down on this one, folks. This is our next-to-last airing, the final one coming sometime on Saturday. On Sunday, we’ll continue on with the psychedelia.

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live and Loving It!

We have several more Petty musical programs left in the month, so we’re dedicating this slot to our favorite live Heartbreaker performances here in The Mermaid Lounge. They come to you from a variety of venues. Enjoy.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is one of our House Bands (the other being The Beatles) and they hold a special place in our hearts. We struggle daily with the impulse to overplay our house bands, so we keep it on the downlow. But none of that nonsense on the man’s birthday. Enjoy the trip. It’s worth it.

We’re at Midweek With Our Multi-Artist ‘Folk Music From A-to-Z’ EP and Chuck Berry In The Spotlight, Wednesday, October 19, 2022

We hit our midweek stride with a great EP focused on folk music and folk-rock. We play both the great pure folk artists (like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan), along with those who pay homage to the musical genre (like The Beatles and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers). Later, we put Chuck Berry front and center.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Folk Music From A-to-Z: Various Artists

We’ve got them all here in this playlist. You’ll hear John Prine, Dave Van Ronk, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Odetta, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, The Band, Eric Andersen, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Nanci Griffith, Jesse Winchester, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Lead Belly, Tim Hardin, The Kingston Trio, Simon & Garfunkel, Richie Havens, Jackson Browne, Guy Clark, James Taylor, The Carter Family, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Chuck Berry NEW!

Tonight we put a rock n’ roll pioneer, one of its Founding Fathers, In the Spotlight as we celebrate his birthday (belatedly, it was October 18). John Lennon once said this about Chuck Berry, “If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry.'” Indeed.

Before, in between, and after we’ve got that great wide Open Stream all day and all night long, because we run 24/7, not just when we have programming. You are in the hands of The Music Mermaid who, as you well know, has impeccable taste in music.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big, Bad Blues EP and Some ‘Live’ Stevie Ray Vaughan On The Docket, September 27, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! Another Tuesday Bluesday has rolled around and we’ve got some great programming for you today that starts with five hours of uninterrupted blues of all kinds!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

We’ve got some great blues material on this station, but this is our biggest, baddest Tuesday Bluesday feature every month where we shower you with all kinds of blues from artists like Delbert McClinton, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, J.J. Cale, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Koko Taylor, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Susan Tedeschi, Duane Allman, Marcia Ball, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Linda Ronstadt, Tracy Nelson and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Cloud Nine by The Temptations

The only diversion from our blues programming today is for this great Album of The Week from 1969 where The Temps introduced us to a new genre called ‘psychedelic soul.’

7:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Bluebird Lounge, Ft. Worth, Texas, September 30, 1979

We close out today’s Tuesday Bluesday programming with a guy who left us much too soon. Stevie Ray Vaughan was, without a doubt, one of the greatest masters of blues guitar and one dominant presence on stage. See for yourself tonight.

Tuesday Bluesday generally brings out a lot of listeners, but we’re not concerned with numbers here because this is a labor of musical love. We do not charge for you to listen…no ‘subscription’ required here. That means you never have to divulge your personal information or give us a credit card number. There are things you can’t do here, like build personal playlists but, then again, that was never what radio was about anyway. When we were kids, radio was about anxiously waiting for the next song and not knowing what it was going to be. That’s what you’ve got here.
