Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ladies Sing The Blues: Various Artists

You’ll hear Billie Holliday, Big Mama Thornton, Ruth Brown, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Koko Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Christine McVie, Marcia Ball, Ellen McIlwaine, Susan Tedeschi, Irma Thomas, Tracy Nelson, Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Sippie Wallace, Bessie Smith, Shawn Murphy, Angela Strelhi, Aretha Franklin, The Blues Broads and more!

7:00 p.m. James Cotton Live at Antone’s Night Club, Austin, TX, July 1987

This is one of those performances where an exact date is not found, but we do know it was July of 1987. A little live James Cotton is always a treat.

We’ve got another great Tuesday Bluesday on tap here in The Mermaid Lounge and The Music Mermaid will be overseeing the festivities today. We hope you’ll join us! All it takes is hitting the button below.

We’ve got Janis Joplin captured live during a two-night residency at the famed Winterland Ballroom this afternoon.

I’ve been listening to and loving Brandi Carlile’s music for a while now and this has been a long time coming. Watching her perform the late, great John Prine’s Angel From Montgomery with one of my musical idols, Bonnie Raitt, during Mothership just this month certainly gave me the impetus to get this done. Her music has also been added to our standard rotation.

We’ve got yet another live performance lined up to close out the programming with the great John Mayall, who is officially now retired from the road, in London.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday and the perfect day to check us out. We’re on 24/7. We’re totally free. And we play absolutely no commercials. Ever.

‘Are You Ready for The Country’, a Guy Clark Spotlight and ‘Live’ Lukas Nelson & POTR on Saturday, May 11, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We keep it on the country side today with our programming, both old school and country-rock, that great sound out of Laurel Canyon.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

Another EP out of mothballs this morning as we pay homage to the old standards and the country rockers with The Eagles, Asleep at The Wheel, The Byrds, Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Poco, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Jerry Jeff Walker, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Carlene Carter, Rosanne Cash, The Desert Rose Band, Kris Kristofferson, Gram Parsons, John Prine, Tom Rush, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Guy Clark

Surely one of the absolute best country singer-songwriters ever. I know I’ve told this story before, but one dreadfully snowy night my friend George and I were walking around Harvard Square freezing when we decided to go into a place called Passim’s Coffee House to warm up. We had no idea who Guy Clark was, but we paid the cover charge and went inside. It was undoubtedly one of the best things I ever did in my life. I was totally hooked. And he played a mean fiddle to boot.

8:00 p.m. Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real Live at The Boathouse, Newport News, VA, June 14, 2018

We close out the country programming with Lukas Nelson and his great little band. Lukas comes from great country outlaw pedigree, so it’s no wonder we love him here in The Mermaid Lounge.

We’re here 24/7 for your listening pleasure, at absolutely no charge to you and with absolutely no commercial interruption. Ever. Just an occasional station I.D. bit courtesy of yours truly. That’s it. The button’s below.

Thursday Brings The ‘Trio’ Sessions, ‘Repeat After Me,’ and Traffic Live at The Fillmore, April 2, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re back at it as we continue Fillmore Week with Traffic, but first it’s The ‘Trio’ Sessions with Dolly, Linda and Emmylou and ‘Repeat After Me’.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Complete Trio Sessions: Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris

We kick off the morning with a bona fide supergroup but, of course, all these years later there’s still plenty of misogyny in the music business. So, nobody talks about these three living legends as a “supergroup.” But that’s exactly what Trio is. Today we give you the outtakes, remakes, remixes, alternate versions and final product all rolled into one.

3:00 p.m. Repeat After Me: Various Artists

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we’ve got the proof right here. You’ll hear CSNY cover Joni Mitchell, Gregg Allman cover Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt cover Little Feat, and Three Dog Night cover Laura Nyro. And that’s just for starters.

We’ve had this one hanging around but haven’t aired it until this evening. It’s about time, don’t you think? Yeah.

Saturday Brings a J.J. Cale Spotlight, ‘Folk Music From A-To-Z’ and Linda Ronstadt at The Record Plant, April 27, 2024

Good morning, music lovers and weekenders alike! We have made it intact, and we are celebrating with some great music today.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of J. J. Cale

Has there been a musician in history so revered who missed out on what we now call ‘the big time’? J.J. Cale invented the Oklahoma sound and his songs have propelled many an artist, but ‘fame’ eluded him. And perhaps that was by choice. Bobbie Gentry deliberately shunned the limelight. All we know is that artists like Tom Petty and Eric Clapton revered his handiwork, and we love him at the radio station, so we are putting him In the Spotlight.

12:00 p.m. Folk Music From A-To-Z: Various Artists

We’ve got five hours of folk music uninterrupted this afternoon with John Prine, Dave Van Ronk, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Odetta, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, The Band, Eric Andersen, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Nanci Griffith, Jesse Winchester, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Lead Belly, Tim Hardin, The Kingston Trio, Simon & Garfunkel, Richie Havens, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Phil Ochs, Townes Van Zandt, The Carter Family, Neil Young and more!

8:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at The Record Plant, Sausalito, CA, November 18, 1973

We’ve got some early Linda Ronstadt for you here this evening with a lot of Don’t Cry Now and just a hint of Heart Like A Wheel and the greatness to come.

You have absolutely nothing to lose by tuning us in. We don’t ask for a credit card or personal information. That’s because we’re totally free 24/7 playing the best music on radio, Internet or otherwise. See for yourself.

Tuesday Bluesday Brings Our Big, Bad Blues EP, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, and Marcia Ball, April 23, 2024

Good morning, bluesologists and welcome to another Tuesday Bluesday with our biggest, baddest blues EP, Fleetwood Mac when it was a blues band, and the great Marcia Ball.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

We’ve got the biggest blues EP of them all today with Delbert McClinton, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, the Robert Cray Band, J.J. Cale, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, Marcia Ball, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Susan Tedeschi, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf and more!

4:00 p.m. Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac Live at The Warehouse, New Orleans, LA, January 30, 1970

Did you know that Fleetwood Mac used to be a blues band? Well, it’s true! They moved into mainstream pop/rock with the addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham and the departure of one Peter Green. See for yourself.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Marcia Ball

We conclude the blues programming tonight with Marcia Ball, a fine blues singer and pianist whose style has been described as Texas stomp rock meets Louisiana swamp blues. Not to be missed.

We’re here on Tuesday Bluesday and every other day of the week on a 24/7 basis. Best of all, there’s no fee to listen and no advertising to interrupt the flow. Just hit the button below.

It’s Ry Cooder, The Grateful Dead and Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP Ringing in the Weekend on Saturday, April 20, 2024

Good morning, lovers of 4/20 and music alike! We’ve got some great stuff on tap for you today including a night-time airing of our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP.

Here’s Saturday’s musical mayhem!

10:00 a.m. Ry Cooder Live at The Record Plant, Sausalito, CA, July 7, 1974

Certainly one of the most respected members of the rock music community, Ry Cooder has made some fantastic music over the years. Linda Ronstadt has always said he’s the best guitarist on the planet. He’s another one of our favorites here in The Lounge because he refuses to be defined by any one genre. Give a listen.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Grateful Dead

I’m one of those anomalies in Grateful Dead lore. I prefer their studio work to their live work, although I have great respect for what they do on stage. Today we’ve got their studio work In the Spotlight.

8:00 p.m. Here Comes the Night: Various Artists

We close out the programming with several hours of music about the night in the title, lyrics or both. Open Stream with a Theme is the way we look at it. You’ll hear from Warren Zevon, The J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, The doors, Poco, Emmylou Harris, Don McLean, The Animals, Steve Winwood, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Bonnie Raitt and more!

We’re here 24/7, like even when you wake up in the middle of the night and join the global universe. We’re totally free, no surprises and not just for a test run, but for good. And we do not play commercial advertising. What’s not to love here?

It’s a Laurel Canyon Day with Our EP, The Lovin’ Spoonful and Stephen Stills & Manassas, Thursday, April 18, 2024

Today is a totally Laurel Canyon kind of day, as we feature the music from the artists who lived and made music there.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

We start it off with five hours of music from the bands that lived and made music in Laurel Canyon over two generations, including The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and more! UPDATE COMING SOON!

4:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Lovin’ Spoonful

We continue our tour of Laurel Canyon with a great sixties-seventies band formed in New York City in 1965 by John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky.

8:00 p.m. Stephen Stills & Manassas Live at The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Netherlands, March 22, 1972

This often-forgotten supergroup was formed by Stephen Stills in 1971, mostly as a vehicle for Stills’ music. They released two albums before disbanding for good. Other members included Chris Hillman, founding member of The Byrds, Al Perkins, Dallas Taylor and Joe Lala.

We’re headed to the weekend once again and we’ll be here to help get you there with some great, commercial-free music. Did I mention we’re totally free and ask for neither a credit card nor your personal information.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Some Louisiana Blues, a Taj Mahal Spotlight, and Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters and James Cotton Live, April 16, 2024

Good morning and welcome to a full-on Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got some heavy hitters here today for you.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Best of Louisiana Blues: Various Artists

We start out down in Louisiana this morning with Ray Charles, Lillian Glinn, Slim Harpo, Roy Brown, Fats Domino, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Rodney Harris, Roosevelt Sykes, Shirley & Lee, Papa Lightfoot, Guitar Slim, Annie Laurie, Fats Matthews, Big Joe Turner, Big Boy Myles, Little Water, Mary Butler, Erline Harris, Dave Bartholomew, Marcia Ball, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, The Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas and more!

4:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is a bluesman and amazing multi-instrumentalist who pushes the blues envelope by incorporating Caribbean and world music into his blues repertoire. Today we put his innovative approach to the blues In the Spotlight.

We’ve got some great new live blues from three masters of the craft, led by Mr. High Energy himself, Johnny Winter. It’s a great way to close out the programming.
