On Sunday We Deliver J. D. Souther’s AOW, Our ‘Ode To Morning’ Multi-Artist EP, and Stephen Stills as Our Singer-Songwriter, July 9, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! Yes, we are deviating from the norm a bit here because we celebrated Ringo’s 83rd birthday yesterday, but we’re back on track with some great programming today!

Here’s Sunday’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Black Rose by John David (J.D.) Souther NEW!

Throughout his career, J.D. Souther has been primarily known as a songwriter who has been recorded by many artists, including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Today he owns our Album of The Week because we believe he’s more than that. He’s a singer-songwriter (and his turn will be coming up soon) of extraordinary talent, and Black Rose is one of the best albums ever recorded.

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

For the first time, we had our ‘Here Comes The Night’ and ‘Ode To Morning’ EP’s fall back-to-back. Today we pay homage to the sunrise with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Chris Hillman, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Stephen Stills NEW!

Tonight we introduce the one-and-only Stephen Stills as our featured singer-songwriter for the week. The guy’s talent cannot be denied, in spite of some of the personal mud slinging that has gone on between members of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. We also trace his career as a solo artist, as well as with Crosby, Stills & Nash (pre-Young) his band, Manassas.

We hope you’ll tune us in on this fine programming day. We’re on 24/7, not just when we have programming, and we’re totally free of charge. No surprises. No subscriptions. No credit cards. No personal information required. It’s all about the music.

It’s Saturday and We’ve Got Our AOW, ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP and a Birthday Bash for Ringo’s 83rd! July 8, 2023

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

For some folks, the night time is the right time, and it’s also a popular subject for musicians of all genres. You’ll hear Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Doors, Emmylou Harris, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt and more!

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Ringo Starr

Today we wish a Happy Birthday (yesterday) to one of the best drummers on the planet who has his own style and his own sound. We may be a day late, but we’re never a dollar short as we play the best of Ringo from his Beatle years and with his All Starr Band. At 83, the Energizer Bunny of drummers is still on the road selling out venues wherever he goes.

Hey, it’s the beginning of the weekend and what better way to kick it off than with great music in the style of the old radio stations…except without the commercial advertising. We have none of that crap. We’re on 24/7, we do not require a “subscription” and we’ll never ask for your personal information. We’re all about the music.

Good morning, weekenders, and welcome to another simple Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge where we kick things off with Maria Muldaur’s Louisiana Love Call.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Louisiana Love Call by Maria Muldaur NEW!

Maria Muldaur got her start during the great folk revival of the sixties hanging out in Greenwich Village. She has not only made great solo albums, but has sung harmony and background vocals for scores of other artists, including Linda Ronstadt, the Jerry Garcia band and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band. Her repertoire includes folk, blues, jazz, pop and spiritual music. This particular album pays tribute to Crescent City soul and includes many New Orleans artists, including Dr. John. Not to be missed.

2:00 p.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

We’re back with our homage to the sounds of Motown, the music that made America dance. You’ll hear Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson Five, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Rare Earth, Mary Wells, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes and more! It’s Sunday before the festivities of the July 4 holiday, so kick your shoes off, stick your socks in your pockets and enjoy the day with some great music. We’re on 24/7, totally free of charge and commercial advertising, and we’re all about the music.

We Start a New Month With Our ‘What’s in A Name’ EP, Bob Dylan’s Final AOW Spin, and the Multi-Faceted Jeff Lynne as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, Saturday, July 1, 2023

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jeff Lynne NEW!

Here’s a guy who doesn’t get the attention he should. Most people know him as the leader of Electric Light Orchestra, but Jeff Lynne is more than that. He’s one of the most prolific singer-songwriters on the planet. Before ELO, there was a sixties band called The Move, which recorded and released the original version of Do Ya. He was a founding member of The Traveling Wilburys. And finally, he’s a record producer who worked with both George Harrison and Tom Petty over his long career. Tonight we introduce him as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

For most people it’s a long weekend where we’ll celebrate our alleged freedom (although all I see from the GOP are rights being rolled back). All that propaganda aside, it’s absolutely not propaganda that we play the best music on the planet totally free with no commercial interruption on a 24/7 schedule. Give us a shot.

We Head To the Weekend With ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, Our AOW, and Some ‘Live’ Kinks Later, Thursday, June 29, 2023

Good morning, all! With the exception of Dylan’s AOW, it’s kind of a British Invasion today with five hours of music from across the pond and some ‘live’ music from the battling Davies brothers later!

Here’s your musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

The British Invasion and beyond is the order of the day, and you’ll hear from The Beatles (of course), The Who, Dave Mason, Electric Light Orchestra, Petula Clark, The Zombies, The Hollies, Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Kinks, the Dave Clark Five, The Bee Gees, The Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Badfinger, The Yardbirds, Traffic, Elton John, Lulu, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Animals, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, the Spencer Davis Group, Cream, Donovan, The Rolling Stones and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Nashville Skyline by Bob Dylan

Released in 1969, this was Dylan’s total immersion in country music and it includes a duet with the great Johnny Cash with The Girl From The North Country. We’re winding down on this one. The final airing is sometime Saturday.

7:00 p.m. The Kinks Live at The Palladium, New York, December 31, 1980

What better way to close the day than with some music from the battling Davies brothers. Fist fights in the dressing room were not unheard of back in the day, but they made a hell of a lot of great music together.

We’re here 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge, folks. We are all about the music, and there’s no hidden fees or bullshit. Give it a try. All you need is a free tab and he button below.

8:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, July 4, 1971

As we approach the July 4th holiday, it’s only fitting that we play this great July 4th concert by CCR live from the iconic Fillmore in San Francisco.
