Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have our usual busy Saturday here in The Mermaid Lounge, people, but no matter what we have going, we’re always going to have more open stream hours in a day than programs. And that’s by design. Read on for details!

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jackson Browne FINAL AIRING!

Jackson Browne is our outgoing featured Singer-Songwriter this week. We hope you’ll get a chance to tune this in if you haven’t yet done so. We air these three times a week at various times.

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Lucinda Williams NEW!

We’re off to an early start today, so I can’t spend a lot of time writing here. Suffice it to say that you can look at the blog post from yesterday and read the final paragraph. It’s the same every day, kids. You’ve just got to take that leap of faith and give us a shot. We are totally free. The only thing we require is a bit of time.

At Midweek, We’re Airing Our ‘Music From Laurel Canyon’ EP and Putting Bonnie Raitt In the Spotlight, Wednesday, October 5, 2022

We’re at the midweek stage and we’ve got those echoes coming from Laurel Canyon. We’re also spotlighting Bonnie Raitt later on.

Laurel Canyon was home to two generations of great musicians and singers.

Here’s your midweek music:

10:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Bonnie Raitt

Tonight we put one of the Laurel Canyon crew In the Spotlight when we feature the great Bonnie Raitt. She’s still out there kickin’ in, a true road warrior.

Before, in between and all night long we’ve got that great wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid. As you know, she’s got impeccable taste in music and we’re adding new tunes to the standard rotation as we speak. We’ll have a final report for you about who’s been added soon!

We’re in Total Sixties Immersion Mode With Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ and Donovan In the Spotlight Later, Wednesday, September 28, 2022

It’s our usual ‘early start’ day here in The Mermaid Lounge as Truck Day calls. Today we go for total immersion in the sixties with our programming (the Open Stream portion is at the discretion of the Music Mermaid).

Here’s your musical landscape at midweek:

10:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We Made It! Friday is Here and So is Our ‘House’ EP and Some ‘Live’ Flying Burrito Brothers Later, September 23, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s the end of another work week (for most of us; I’ve got one day left) and we’ve got a great day of programming lined up. As always, we are modest in structure. Most of our day is dedicated to that great wide Open Stream.

We kick the day off with our #BecomeUngovernable House EP!

Here’s your end-of-the-week lineup:

11:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Totally inspirational music here for you, folks. The music that inspired the station. Plenty of protest music and plenty of psychedelia. You’ll hear plenty of The Mermaid Lounge favorites with Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Who, The Beatles, Genesis, T-Rex, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

7:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at The Palomino, West Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969

One of the bands at the forefront of the country-rock phenomenon that took root in Laurel Canyon, the breeding ground for two generations of musicians who helped meld country and rock. Tonight we have them live from The Palomino.

This is the place to be today. There is a lot of great music in both the programming and the open stream, and you’ll be under the mesmerizing control of The Music Mermaid. That is significantly better than being under the control of Donald Trump. I think we can all agree on that. We’re totally free. We take no commercial advertising, so there’s no interruption (except for a few modest station I.D.’s from me), and no ‘subscription’ required. Therefore, you need not provide a credit card nor personal information. What more do you want?

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP and a Little ‘Live’ Action From The Heartbreakers, Wednesday, September 21, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we’ve got our ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP to start off the day, along with some House Band action from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers later. (Hint: Tomorrow it’s that ‘other’ house band.)

Today we’ve got the first playlist we ever made!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This is the first playlist we ever created, and it was modest at it’s inception. It has since been expanded into a full-blown EP, and has also spawned a second volume. Today, you will hear from Del Shannon, Little Eva, The Drifters, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Walker Bros, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, The Searchers, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Petula Clark, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, The Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, Harry Nilsson, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Blind Faith, Janis Joplin, Tony Joe White, Barry McGuire, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Procol Harum, The Temptations, Fats Domino, and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Coleman Coliseum, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, October 5, 1995

Yes, our eminent House Band on the road in Tuscaloosa on the ‘Dogs With Wings Tour’ in support of the brilliant album, Wildflowers. That ‘dogs with wings’ thing is a line from what happens to be my favorite TPATH song at the moment, It’s Good To Be King. It just sucks me in every time from the first note.

Get in on the midweek fun, people. We’ve got Chile, Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Australia, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Ohio, New York, Kansas, and points beyond on already this morning.

We’re at The Midweek Point with Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP and The Band ‘Live’ in Asbury Park Later, Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We begin the day just a bit early as it is Truck Day in ACE Hardware retail land. But we will have control of the music we have to listen to, and it’ll be right here.

They started as Dylan’s back-up band and became one of the most influential bands in popular music history. And they are most certainly a Mermaid Lounge favorite.

Here’s your midweek line-up:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re back with our tribute to real country music (not bad pop bands with fiddles, as Tom Petty calls the pretenders), and the Laurel Canyon crowd who were instrumental in the development of country-rock. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine and more!

7:00 p.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, New Jersey, July 20, 1976

As Robbie Robertson explains, they wound up with their name because that’s what everyone referred to them as when they were recording in the early years. From their beginnings as Dylan’s back-up band, The Band became one of the most revered and influential bands in music history. We here in The Mermaid Lounge love The Band. They are in our top three. Guess who the other two are.

One more day on the front lines of retail hell coming up. We had a totally unhinged woman with a paintbrush up her ass come in yesterday. It was a thing of beauty. We’re going to see if we caught her tirade on camera. But hey, it’s a new day and we’ve got great music on tap.
