It’s Another (Mostly) Open Stream Wednesday Until The Beatles, November 4, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got our usual (mostly) Open Stream Wednesday. But beyond that, we’ve got single-origin programming today from our other house band.

Paul, John and George during the Let It Be Sessions.

Here’s today’s line-up:

24/7 Daily (Mostly) Open Stream

This is not just on Wednesday. The majority of the 24-hour music cycle is simply open streaming our vast catalogue. We average about 6-7 hours total daily in special programming; some days far fewer.

5:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Let It Be Sessions

These are previously unreleased sessions of The Beatles during the recording of the Let It Be album, a rare inside-the-studio look at the fab four at work.

7:00 p.m. Not the Album of The Week: Let It Be…Naked by The Beatles

Let It Be the way it was meant to be heard, stripped down without the wall of sound. Before Phil Spector got his grubby little fingers on it. It’s not that I don’t like the original album. I own it. But when this was released, a great album became even better.

Tune in. Turn on. Drop out. That was very good advice. Especially now. Take the edge off. Listen to some good music instead. Come on. You know you want to.

The Allman Brothers Live, Open Stream with Three-in-a-Row, and Our New ‘By The Numbers’ Playlist, Monday, November 2, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Welcome to another Monday. About the only good thing you can say about it is that the music remains a constant here.

The Allman Brothers Band

Here’s today’s line-up:

12:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at A & R Studios, New York, Recorded Live on August 26, 1971

The brothers converge in A & R Studios for a live radio broadcast.

Afternoon Open Stream with Three-in-a-Rows Throughout!

We’ve got an afternoon of Open Streaming, and some new Three-in-a-Row interludes built in.

6:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: By The Numbers Playlist, Various Artists NEW!

It seems, somehow, that all of life is a numbers game these days. And judging by the number of songs with numbers in them, it has been going on for quite some time.

Hear Mudcrutch, Chicago, Asleep at the Wheel, Eddie Cochran, J.J. Cale, Jefferson Airplane, The Mamas & The Papas, The Beatles, The Temptations, The Byrds, James Taylor, Roseann Cash, The Doors, and more!

Speaking of numbers, there are no numbers associated with #BecomeUngovernable Radio. We are free. No advertising. No bullshit. No politicians. Nobody with a word salad problem. A great day to tune us in is just about any day.

Petty Month Draws to a Close With ‘Wildflowers’, We’re All Under The Influence, and Later Tonight: Live Dead, Saturday, October 31, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers. I trust your day will be a good one. Today we bid a fond farewell to another Petty Month. Hey, with any luck, we could be streaming from his birthday bash in Gainesville. Fingers crossed.

Today’s single Tom Petty offering is the All The Rest portion of the new Wildflowers project. These are the songs that would have made Tom’s double album had he released it back in 1994.

A fan’s fond farewell.

Here’s today’s line-up:

12:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wildflowers & All The Rest by Tom Petty FINAL AIRING!

Today’s Airing: All The Rest

These are the ten songs that would have been included on the ideal Wildflowers double album set. Congratulations to his bandmates, family and friends for making this happen.

The boxed set entered the Billboard 200 at number 5. The re-issue of the album Wildflowers has gone to number 1. There is no question that the world misses Tom Petty’s music.

Afternoon Open Stream, 26,000+ Songs, No Advertising, Totally Free

Listen for those Three-in-a-Row interludes throughout the day!

7:00 p.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Now, being under the influence doesn’t always mean it’s illegal, mind you. But more often than not, it does. Don’t lie because we’ve all been there.

10:00 p.m. Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at Dillon Stadium, Hartford, Connecticut, July 31, 1974 NEW!

Another great outing by The Dead. No two shows ever the same, even on consecutive nights. The ultimate jam band.

So, will this be your lucky day? Or are you still lost in the ozone? Time will tell, won’t it?

The Petty Party Nears It’s End With The Bootleg Series Vol. 2, and We Start With ‘What’s In a Name?’ on Friday, October 30, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists! The great mix continues today, as we gear up for the winter months here on the East Coast. We’ve got some fun here today as Petty Month winds down.

Just perfect for today’s programming.

Here’s what’s on tap for today:

12:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: What’s in a Name? Various Artists

This is just a great playlist that’s like Open Stream for namedroppers. Not a bad song in the lot, and a lot of fun.

Some of the namedroppers are Linda Ronstadt, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Daywalkers, The Who, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, CSNY, The Rolling Stones, Badfinger and so many more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Bootleg Series, Volume 2 NEW!

We have volume two from the years 1976-1981 as part of our Bootleg Series today. There are some things you otherwise may not hear in this lot. We just live for this stuff here in The Mermaid Lounge.

We have many new live performances coming up for the winter months here by Tom Petty and others as well. Come the first week in November, you’ll see our winter programming begin to evolve. The one constant? The music. Uninterrupted by advertising or chatter and at no cost to you. It’s a labor of love. I am sharing my personal record collection with you all. Right now, it’s 2,600 songs and counting, built over many years of collecting.

Welcome to Your (Mostly) Open Stream Wednesday, Until Later When We Have The Bootleg Series Debut, October 28, 2020

Yes, Music Lovers, Tom Petty Month is winding down here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we have some lovely parting gifts for you beginning this evening! So, be patient and don’t touch that tab!

Tom Petty. At home. On stage. Where he should still be.

Here’s today’s line-up:

Infinity (Mostly) Open Stream Wednesday

We’ve got one of the best music streams we’ve ever heard, frankly. And today you’ll have some great Three-in-a-Row sequences thrown in.

6:00 p.m. The Petty Bootleg Archives NEW!

‘Nuff said. We’ve got our hands on some great quality fan-recorded material here in The Mermaid Lounge, so stick around. You won’t regret it. We will also have the playlist up in the blog later in the day.

Ready to give us a shot yet? I have no idea what you’re waiting for. If you’re stuck at home working, all you need to do is pull up a tab. It’s as simple as that. You won’t need your wallet. You won’t need to remember your personal information because we don’t ask for it. How’s that?

It’s Tuesday Bluesday! We’ve Got Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones, Open Stream Afternoon With Three-in-a-Row Blues Jams, and The Heartbreakers Sing the Blues Later, October 27, 2020

Good Morning, Blues Lovers! We’ve got a full slate of blues magic today, including our new Three-in-a-Row feature loaded with the blues!

Muddy & Mick get down at The Checkerboard Lounge!

Here’s today’s bluesy line-up:

12:00 p.m. Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones Live From The Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago, November 22, 1981

Does it get any better than this? The blues are in the Stones’ DNA! This is a great little interlude from the Windy City.

Afternoon Open Stream with Special Three-in-a-Row Blues Jams

We’re open streaming in the afternoon until just about 7:00 p.m. We’ll have special Three-in-a-Row Blues Jams all day from Canned Heat, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing The Blues

Tom Petty once remarked that he’d like it if The Heartbreakers could just get old together sitting in chairs and playing the blues. We would have loved that too. In the meantime, The Heartbreakers certainly could sing and play the blues indeed, and here’s the proof.

It’s time you tuned us in. Listen, you have absolutely nothing to lose. Nada. There are no charges. Ever. There is no need to give us any of your personal information. We don’t ask for it. We don’t require a credit card because there are no hidden charges. Get with the program.

It’s a Wednesday Tradition! (Almost) Totally Open Stream Until The Wilburys Travel in Later, October 21, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today is another (Almost) Totally Open Stream Wednesday, and it’s also a Wilbury Wednesday! What could be better?

The Traveling Wilburys are the best damned supergroup on the planet.

Here’s Wednesday’s line-up!

Infinity (Almost) Totally Open Stream Wednesday!

We’re here in The Mermaid Lounge circulating about 26,000+ songs every day. No commercials. No talking heads. No politicians. No charge. No bullshit.

And today, we add a new feature to our rotation called Three-in-a-Row, so be listening throughout the day!

6:00 p.m. Wilbury Wednesday! The Music of The Traveling Wilburys

The Traveling Wilburys are the best damned supergroup ever concocted. They released some albums, some videos, and never wanted to go on the road. Five guys who loved hanging out and making music together, and what great stuff they left us. If you’ve never heard their catalogue, tune us in and see for yourself.

Good day to see what we’re all about. I keep saying that stuff. Sooner or we hope you’ll join us.

It’s Another (Almost) Completely Open-Stream Wednesday Until The Heartbreakers Drop By Later, October 14, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists. Today’s mix is anyone’s guess because we’re pretty much Open Stream all day. That is, until The Heartbreakers drop by later to help us celebrate Tom Petty Month.

The now famous Tom Petty Mural in Gainesville, painted by a fan, not by an enterprise.

Here’s your Wednesday line-up:

Infinity (Almost) Completely Open Stream

We will be circulating 25,000+ songs all day long, like we do every day. The only difference is that our first bit of programming isn’t until 5:00 p.m., and that will be the only programming of the entire day.

5:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Deep Cuts and B-Sides

This is one of my favorite playlists. It could have been even longer. For most bands, these are A-side releases. For me, it’s when you get to this kind of playlist that you realize just how fucking great this band was. And I’m talking about all of them, even though it is clear that Petty was the driving force in their success. As with Mudcrutch and The Traveling Wilburys, it was a bunch of friends who loved making music together.

Now children, you have a great day and play nice with each other. In fact, if music tames the savage beast, this could be your day to tune us the fuck in.
