Good Morning, Music Lovers! Well, we have a full day of wide Open Stream. No programming. All of this courtesy of The Music Mermaid. She’s minding the store today.

This is all you need to know. And this is where you need to go:
Good Morning, Folks! We’re back to Moan-Day all over again with a great line-up, including a couple of spotlight features, one brand new!

Here’s today’s line-up:
Was the man from New Orleans the first to play rock n’ roll? I think that could be the case. This guy was making sounds nobody else was making back in the day. He was certainly a bona fide pioneer of the craft, of that there is no doubt. His first single, The Fat Man, is credited as the first rock n’ roll record and the first to sell more than a million copies. Between 1955 and 1960, Fats Domino had eleven Top 10 U.S. hits on the Billboard charts. He sold more than 65 million records during his groundbreaking career.
We have a couple of live performances of these guys, but we thought it was an appropriate time to put a spotlight feature together in light of Graeme Edge’s passing on November 12. He was their drummer and the last original band member. We bring you the best of the Moodies today.
We thought it was about time to break this one out again. Here are some great songs with numbers in the title, lyrics, or both! You’ll hear James Taylor, The Mamas & The Papas, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Chicago, Three Dog Night, J.J. Cale, Mudcrutch, Alice Cooper, The Doors, Stevie Nicks, Shawn Colvin, Rosanne Cash, The Searchers, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Paul Simon, Wilson Pickett, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Johnny Rivers, The Byrds and more!
Listen, people. Monday’s a really busy day here in The Lounge. Lots of listeners start off our week. We’ve got the crowd from Germany, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Canada, (Texas, shhh), Australia, Portugal, Spain and points beyond this morning. Some of these freaks have been on all night. Tune us in. Start your week off right.
Good Morning, Reggae-ologists! We’re here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re breaking out some great Reggae today to start off our musical programming. We’ve also got a series of new Trifectas debuting this afternoon!

Here’s Friday’s line-up:
The Maytals were formed in the early 60s in Jamaica, and became one of the best known ska and rocksteady vocal groups, playing a key role in popularizing the Reggae sound. We put them here In the Spotlight today.
We’ve got a set of four brand new Trifectas to help get you through the afternoon:
2:00 p.m. Fats Domino
3:00 p.m. Badfinger
4:00 p.m. Paul Revere & The Raiders
5:00 p.m. Jimi Hendrix
You know, I look forward to Peter Jackson’s Beatle documentary coming up this month. Did the Beatles fight? They did. All bands fight. They’re like a family. But if the Beatles hated each other they way it was played up in the media, they would not have been able to remain as great as they were to the bitter end. Later on, they worked out their issues. It was real life under a media microscope.
Tune us in, folks. We’re here for you 24/7 completely free-of-charge every single day. We don’t ask for your personal info or a credit card, and we do not play commercials. Ever.
Good Morning, Sixties Lovers! This is our day. We give you a great new Album of The Week and dust off our Original Sixties Rotation this afternoon. Read on!

Here’s today’s line-up:
There have been many players in the evolution of what has come to be known as country-rock. This 1969 release, the first from The Flying Burrito Brothers, continued the work of two of the most notable musicians in this process, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, both veterans of The Byrds (who were also players). These guys married country to other forms of popular music, like gospel, soul, and psychedelic rock, and it’s all on display here in this great new Album of The Week.
This one is due for an update soon, but it remains formidable as it is, as this first sixties EP focuses on early-to-mid music of the great generation. You’ll hear Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Drifters, Fats Domino, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Buddy Holly, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, The Band, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, The Yardbirds, The Searchers, The Rolling Stones, Donovan, and more!
Sunday is a day of rest, so go ahead and take yourself some rest. Kick back and tune us in. We’ll keep you aurally pleased for hours here. In fact, 24/7 to be precise. At no cost whatsoever to you. Hey, what else could you ask for as we end Daylight Savings time here.
Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we’ve got the second collection in our Sixties Rotation EP, which focuses on the mid-to-late portion of the greatest decade in music ever, along with the final airing of our AOW and LIVE DEAD later!

Here’s Saturday’s Line-up:
In this EP, we focus more on the mid-to-late sixties with The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Buffalo Springfield, The Four Tops, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Box Tops, Vanilla Fudge, Sly & The Family Stone, The Doors, The Zombies, Cream, Procol Harum, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and more!
This is our final airing of an album that is arguably Elton John’s best work all these years later. When you wake up tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection waiting for you!
A rare repeat performance this weekend, but it’ll seem new no matter when it’s aired! We all know that the world’s ultimate jam band never sounds the same. This will be no exception. Got lots of new stuff coming. Will return to new performances next weekend.
Great day, as always, to tune us in. Before, in between, and after, we give you our 27,000+ song library totally uninterrupted in no particular order. It’s at the total whim of The Music Mermaid, and trust me when I tell you she has impeccable taste. What are you waiting for?
Good Morning, Pettyologists! The month is coming to a close quickly and we’ve got just a couple of more things to squeeze in, one of them coming this evening. Read on!

Here’s your Friday line-up:
This is one of our favorites here. It started small and became an EP a little over a month ago. We’ve got some great music lined up over the afternoon hours coming from this excellent multi-artist long player.
We’ve got a tour where Petty and his mates were not necessarily the headliners, but that didn’t seem to matter to either them or the audience. This is where the seeds were planted for a great musical match and where Mike Campbell said that the band truly learned how to improvise on stage. He credited Dylan with that lesson. This is one of those “don’t miss” moments.
Come on, folks. What the hell are you waiting for? Your friends from around the planet are out there right now listening to us and you need to find a way to join them. Hey, this isn’t rocket science. It’s Internet radio.
Good Morning, Music Lovers! Well, we’re at midweek again. We’ve got our Laurel Canyon EP going today, along with some Wildflowers action a bit later as part of Tom Petty Month.

Here’s today’s line-up:
This became an EP a little over a month ago, and it’s one of our favorites. Laurel Canyon was a musical phenomenon of both the 60s and 70s. You will hear The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Canned Heat, The Doors, The Mamas & The Papas, The Monkees, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Carole King, James Taylor, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, CSNY, Neil Young, Stephen Stills & Manassas, John Mayall and many more.
Ever wonder how the final songs became the final songs? This is a great playlist from the Wildflowers project released just a little over a year ago. Alternate versions of the final songs that ended up on Wildflowers are a great treat for Petty fans. I never get tired of this stuff.
It‘s like Open Stream with a Theme. Yeah. That’s what it is. And it’s always uninterrupted by commercials or mouthy DJ’s who overstay their welcome. We’re also free, and we don’t ask you for a damned thing. So, what are you waiting for?
Good Morning, Musicologists! If you loved the musical British Invasion this is your day. Not only do we have our EP ‘The British Are Coming’ this afternoon, but we kick the festivities off with Elton John and our AOW.

Here’s today’s line-up:
I personally have a love-hate relationship with EJ, preferring his earlier works to the stuff he made later in his career. When you begin a long-term run in Vegas, you know it’s time to hang them up. I continue to believe this is one of Elton John’s finest albums, if not his absolute best. I have liked various songs here and there since the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, but nothing has knocked my socks off since then. Regardless, this album belongs on our Album of The Week radar without a doubt.
Serendipity has once again found its way into my off-the-cuff programming and given us an All-British Sunday. That can only mean good things. During this EP, you’ll hear The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Zombies, The Hollies, Yes, The Animals, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Kinks, The Dave Clark Five, Lulu, Petula Clark, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees, The Yardbirds, Faces, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, Dusty Springfield, and many more!
As always, it’s a great day to tune us in. We’re totally free, just like your Sunday should be, so why not take advantage of it. And we’re not just free and without strings on Sundays. We’re like this every day. For us, it’s all about the music.
Good Morning, Petty-ologists! We are slowly winding down Tom Petty Month here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we do have some great nuggets left for you this week. Do not despair. We’ve got a very scientific offering today. (I’m lying.)

Here’s Friday’s line-up:
The decision to move this from 50 to 60 songs was as “scientific” as the song selections themselves. We simply decided 50 wasn’t enough and some great stuff got left out. So, we arbitrarily added it in. I believe we pulled the song names out of a bucket when we originally made this list, and just said, “yeah” and “no.” But it matters not. We could redo this list and it might look very different. That’s why we don’t indulge. We think we’ve got a solid list here, and it now includes some of the stuff from Wildflowers & All The Rest and Angel Dream. ENJOY!
By the way, the set list is up under the Playlist tab and it was updated last evening. Just scroll around out there until you find it.
Irma Thomas is a contemporary of both Aretha Franklin and Etta James, but she never quite achieved the commercial success of either. Although, to listen to Irma, she’s feels she’s living just fine as ‘The Soul Queen of New Orleans.’ At 80 years old, she’s still singing. We love Irma Thomas here in The Mermaid Lounge, and tonight we are putting her In the Spotlight where she belongs.
And you belong here listening to us. Join your friends from near and far today. We’ve got some in New York and Kansas tuning in today with folks from Italy, Spain, Ireland, the UK, Russian Federation, Portugal, Australia, Japan, Germany and France. What are you waiting for?
Good Morning, Musicologists! This should be a fun day as we pull out our All About Blue and Paint It Black set lists for you. It’s a treasure trove of multi-artist songs as we play the ones with the words “blue” and “black” in either the title or the lyrics, or both!

Here’s today’s programming:
We’re running these two playlists back-to-back for you today to kick things off, focusing on songs with references to the color blue in the title, the lyrics…or both! And there are plenty as you’ll hear from The Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Shawn Colvin, Paul Simon, The Kinks, Little Feat, B.B. King, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, The Beach Boys, George Harrison, Mudcrutch, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, and many more!
You’ll get the same treatment tonight only with the color black. You’ll hear from Led Zeppelin, The Wallflowers, The Move, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Stephen Stills, The Band, Grateful Dead, Curtis Mayfield, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin, Lucinda Williams, k.d. lang, Tom Rush, Amy Winehouse, Warren Zevon and more!
And that’s why it’s a black & blue Friday here in The Mermaid Lounge! It’s a big wide Open Stream with a bit of a twist, and we hope you like it. Make today part of your background color by pulling up a tab and tuning us in. You’ll be in good company.
